infact you are comparing a Bike with a car. How lame.

There are better machines out there than just a corvette.
Read the headline. Atleast this thing dosent leak oil. Granted you have some motor power, but thats not the 21st century is looking for.

Once again you are out of business.

aero, what are you arguing? he agreed that your rune is one sweet bike, he just thought that it would never be released. I think it has, but it costs 32000. thats alot for a bike.

Dude you're being an ass.

I hope this bike makes it. Just like I hoped the Wellings Harley would, or the Tomahawk (suicide machine), or the original ZX-4...

I'm just saying it's probably not going to happen. I love the design, but until I see rolling prototypes I don't get my hopes up.

And as long as you want to sling barbs, just remember that you need some info to back it up...ass.

Harleys leaking oil is an old cliche man, old news. They've taken car of the oil leak problem, more or less.

aerohitfihi, that's a beautiful looking bike. Right on par with this one.

Oops. I mean this one.

and to me Tomahawk is an ATV of some sort.
I dont even consider it as a bike/cruiser.

It's cool. I love progression but it gets stuck in management so often it's hard to tell what the goods will be...

Just enjoy riding, no problems there :)

Harleys are nothing. Most oil leaked in Iowa is from fatties chowing Olestra.

2003-08-07 04:01:20 AM
I carve.

out of all the motorcycles I have owned my V-Rod is by far the finest/most fun to ride machine. It has goobs of power in the usable/realistic range, it is very very fast, and it turns and stops well. The fit and finish was great stock but I custom painted it and chromed the shiat out of it. I loved my Ducatis, and yamaha R series machines but they were built for a track and none of our american roads are anything like a track. The V-Rod is pure grunt and muscle for real roads.

Harleys don't leak oil,
They mark thier spot!

2003-08-07 05:15:18 AM
Their shure do and is speel goot. Go toilet is make friend. Not speak English but is fight team okay. Make html the red and it laughs, but in US it grows and learns speak. Super excellent!

2003-08-07 05:32:03 AM
Pardon me while I blame the diahhrea dripping out my pantleg on my motorcycle.

"2003-08-07 01:31:53 AM 2wheeljunkie

Like I said, I'm not saying I'll NEVER own one, but my cousin lost a clutch perch bolt on hit 2003 FXDL at about 300 miles, and another friend lose the shifter peg on his 2003 FXDWG on the way to his 1000 mile service. I ride a 2002 SV650S and at 8000 miles, nothing has fallen off. I'm cool with anyone on 2 wheels, but at $23000 for an FXDWG, I'll buy a VTX1800 to park next to my SV and have cash left over to go to Daytona. Wasn't this discussion about butter?"

I didn't pay half that for my 2000 FXDWG. Never had a problem with mine at all...

you know, i never really understood the whole 'your bike sucks cuz it was made in _______' thing. you ride what you want to ride. after all, isn't it about riding and enjoying yourself? i personally ride an 81 kawasaki 1000 that could burn any harley off the line, any day. it's 22 farking years old with 41k and still screams! oh and i can pull into my garage at any hour of the night without pissing off all the neighbors. i've got nothing against harleys, they can be fabulous machines. it's a shame that the attitude is the worst part about them. not to say that doesn't go for this new age asshat crotch-rocket crew who ride wheelies everywhere and are just plain dangerous idiots. i laugh when i see these guys riding in shorts, flip-flops and no shirts. hope you have some skin left after you destroy your bike riding like an a-hole.

you want to ride a real motorcycle? try a bmw k1200rs. all other bikes can eat it's precision german engineered dust.

doublesecretprobation

I totally agree. I've owned all sorts from rice-rockets to 70's cruisers - and I enjoyed all of them.

Got a BMW F650GS Dakar now. Much fun.

Some comments:

-The leaking oil thing is pretty much a leftover from a bad time in the companys history. Newer ones are much better, now they just have to get the accelerating, braking, and handling down :)

-"Quit being a wuss, ride a V-Max..."
Err, its been a while sine the V-Max was considered extremely fast. Given the fact that the bike hasnt really changed at ALL since its inception in what... 85? Yet the price has about doubled. If I want grin factor, I'll take a GSXR-1000. A bike, to put things in perspective, with a dry weight of about 400 lbs, and rear wheel horsepower that equals the car I drive.

Lastly, who cares what you ride, as long as you do ride... motorcycle riding in the US has some stifling stereotypes associated with it, from the lawyer-rebel wannabees that think "cruising" is towing your trailer queen to the nearest happening, to squids that read Performance Bike magazine, and think riding around in shorts and sandals is a good idea. Here's a tip: save that ti exhaust and euro tail money, and buy yourself some leathers and a clue :)

Carving is fun

Litig8r F650GS' are sweet, i've read very cool stories of people taking them _everywhere_.

HA HA HA well put! though in this case, i prefer darwinism over attempting to knock sense into the squids. that's all they need is to feel more invincible.

I agree. I've owned Moto Guzi's, BSA's and frankenbikes made from anything i could get my hands on... Finally got a Honda ST1100. Does it really matter what you ride? I thought it was just the joy of riding. I'll build by own Harley soon, but sans butter.

2003-08-07 09:24:29 AM
Harley's may leak oil, but my Suzuki BURNS oil!

Yes, the Bandit.

2003-08-07 09:25:36 AM
The best was when my friend bought a Harley 2 years ago, then needed the motor replaced after 1500 miles. He was not happy.

Ohio also has an annual tradition of butter sculpting at the State Fair. Below is a link to a picture of the 1998 Butter Cow from the Ohio State Fair.

I tried to buy a Harley Sportster Sport because at the time that was the most power for the pound they had. They were going for about $3K over MSRP (about 1/3 again the price) and the dealers I spoke with were arrogant jackasses to me.

I went down to the local Honda dealer and he had the bike ready, waiting, and the finance paperwork (from my Credit Union) complete and approved the next day just waiting for my signature. I got a new Magna with accessories for $6600. Aftermarket pipes, windshield, and seat were included as well as the original equipment.

Probably a better bike, definitely a faster bike, a much more pleasant experience, for about half the price.

Maybe I'll try to get a used one next time. Of course I still have my 1979 XR250 so it might be a while - phhhht!

2003-08-07 09:42:39 AM
But I'd ride a Rupp before I'd go without a bike. Give me a tube frame Briggs & Stratton. I have no prejudice about bikes. Just assholes that think I need to think like them.

2003-08-07 10:39:15 AM
I bet it started about as well as a Harley too...

-Just kidding! I love anything with two wheels and an engine. I ride a '98 VFR and I also have a '98 KX 250 motocrosser.

Keeps me young.

2003-08-07 11:14:25 AM
Say what you want about harleys, but as long as the bikers keep buying em, then i will get a job there makin em. And when i get there, i promise 1 leak per 2 machines...gotta step up production.

Oh, the Iowa State Fair. That chance Iowa has every year to wallow in the fact that most of the country believes us to be rustic rubes.

Three years ago, this same sculpter did a -- BUTTER LAST SUPPER. And people flocked to it like crazy. I hear that Judas was made out of MARGERINE.

2003-08-07 11:52:34 AM
I agree with the HD dealers acting like arrogant jackasses. Sure makes me wanna move up to spend money at their dealerships. Im now at the age and income level that buying a new bike is no problem. Im looking at trading my 88 Magna for something larger, maybe a Valkyrie or Gold Wing, but I wont ever set foot in a HD dealership again. I have seen a few HDs I liked, but have no interest in dealing with the HD attitudes just to give them my money. My Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki dealer is more than happy to accomdate me, and the bikes are better made and more reliable. The HD dealers could care less, as long as there is some other guy whos just got the money to spend.

i guess i am the only Iowa that dosn't goto the fair? never have...dont understand the whole thing with it. when its fair time all the white trash come out in groups and go drink at the beer tent and their little inbread children goto the midway and win stuffed animals they can then use to bribe their younger cousins to have relations with them. I really hate iowa

/dreaming of northern cali

They have a new electronic device which you can attach to the motor of your Honda and make it run just like a Harley!

Just bolt it to your ignition and it'll start hard, backfire, break down frequently and leak oil all over the place.

2003-08-07 12:31:41 PM
You know why Harlety riders are all big nasty mean bastards?

You'd be big and mean too, if you had to push that big heavy klunker all over town. . .

BMW.. kraftvoll und mit stil gemacht!

My 2 cents:

If you like riding a Harley - good for you, enjoy.

If your a mechanical engineer and think Harley's are well engineered - you're an idiot.

2003-08-07 02:25:45 PM
So, instead of the Butter Cow, she's made the Butter Hogg..

2003-08-07 05:38:25 PM
If your a mechanical engineer that thinks the V-Rod isn't well engineered you ride the short bus and lick the windows.

2003-08-07 07:30:05 PM
My V-rod doesn't leak oil at 140mph!!

2003-08-07 10:15:06 PM
Didn't we already see Mrs. Butter-lady's article posted here a couple weeks ago??

Ride what you want, just don't come off like an arrogant ass because the general public doesn't know the difference between a YZ50, a Softtail, and a K1200LT. Had a little kid cover his ears when he saw my Goldwing last weekend, for crying out loud.

Oh, and the Valkyrie Rune has been released, some of the guys already have a couple thousand miles on them. Standard wheel models are $25,000, chrome are $27,000. It comes with your choice of bars for no price difference, slouch-forward or up-right, specify when you order. Much cheaper with as good or better quality as one of the after-market customs builders. I'll take a Black Cherry one with the pulled-back bars, and whatever wheels you'll pay for :).
