I hope someone invades them and gives them what for....or maybe we just lob a few bombs their way, and hope we can find a way to leave before we get blamed for a 50 year stalemate.

They are using torture?

If only there was a country with the moral authority to tell them to stop.

Well it's not like the United States would fire on their own people, torture prisoners, or detain prisoners without sending them to trail!

So are we to believe that if the rebels were to capture government soldiers, they'd be held in a cozy bed and breakfast until the war is over?

It's a two way street, I'm sure.

I think we really want the 50 year stalemate. I think I remember Obama talking a year or so ago about how we were going to increase US exports by like 50%-100% soon. At the time I was like, "yeah right! No ones gonna buy that many Fords and Chevy's in foreign countries."

Now I realize he meant M-16s and Tomahawk missiles, F-18s and Abrams tanks.

We love all this unrest in these countries, it fits right into the US's foreign policy. Destabilize any groups that may ever mount a threat to the USofA and sell them all loads of weapons.

I'm pretty sure hiring mercenaries from other countries to uphold your dictatorship by killing your own people qualifies. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure. Or is that high treason? Help me here.

Considering that the U.S. is currently waging an aggressive war against a sovereign nation we are committing a war crime that we hung people for at Nuremburg.

Remember kids, its only a war crime if you LOSE the war.

You mean the part where the rebels telling the story to the reporter insist "we'd never do such a thing!"? It would be rather naive to believe that.

Funny, I don't see "bombing a sovereign nation" in the definition of war crimes. Why don't you point it out for us?

Well unless you count selling nerve and mustard gas to Hezbollah

Define "war crimes" in 25 words or less. Go ahead. We'll wait.

Difficulty: "Crimes against humanity" =/= "war crimes", just so you know.

This one?

It was a confusing, fast-moving and violent day, with resolve and panic both on display. Brutality was briefly evident, too, in the form of mob rule.

In the midafternoon, as the rebels searched cars at the city's northeastern checkpoint and the fighting continued, they dragged a man from a vehicle, rushed him to the far shoulder of the road and shot him. The man's capture, and his hasty burial, could be seen through binoculars from a few hundred yards away, though the execution was not visible because the crowd around the prisoner was too thick.

Journalists who tried to interview the executioners were chased away by gunfire that swept the checkpoint and the area nearby, apparently by coincidence. The bullets scattered the gathered crowd.

The concept of "war crimes" is asinine. You (a country) does whatever it needs to do to win a war especially if it really wants to win.

If a country in invaded then it should do what ever it takes to to the enemy to remove it... No restrictions against the invading country, its soldiers and citizens to protect your own nation's citizens, residents and infrastructure... until that enemy has left and is not longer an active threat.

As a concept, it appears that "war crimes" is generally only prosecuted against the loser of a war.

However I am writing in general terms of war against an external invader and not the active suppression of your own country's populace. In this case, the concept is likely apropos as the government, it's leadership and followers are committing defacto "crimes against humanity" (another questionable concept.)

Am I taking an unpopular view? Probably yes. Then again I also believe that MAD was a very useful doctrine that served a purpose and still does.

/Noteice: Bourbon fueled post.
