He's the best part of a lot of things: that movie, Mr. Belvedere, having to suffer through a Milwaukee Brewers game...

7 games in? Call me in July and see where they are. Even the worst teams in baseball history have gone 5-2 over a seven game stretch.

The collapse is inevitable, by June the Indians will be in their accustomed place, and will be envying the Cubs.

If they had kept either C.C. or Lee, they would be contenders this year.

Well, I don't see that happening, considering Cleveland's won a World Series in the last 100 years.

Just a reminder, fans, comin' up is our "Die-hard Night" here at the stadium. Free admission to anyone who was actually alive the last time the Indians won a pennant.

Sadly, that was never going to happen. CC basically spat on an $18M/year long-term deal and made his intention to get the absolute most money possible known in 2008. Lee also made it very clear that he really didn't like the Indians' management (allegedly bitter over being sent down to AAA in 2007), and that the Indians had zero chance of re-signing him.

To be honest, I think the Indians made out okay on those trades. Carrasco looks pretty good now (and is still only 23), Knapp was arguably the top prospect in that trade (still not even 20 yet), Donald and Marson are at least decent contributors. Meanwhile, LaPorta and Brantley seem to finally have gotten their shiat together. You're never going to get equal value when trading an ace (unless you're trading to the Expos when they're trying not to be contracted), but I think they Indians got a lot of value. They probably end up with the best hall of any of the Lee trades, though it will take a few years for anyone to say that definitively.

Oh, I know it isn't realistic, given how screwed up baseball's economics have become. When you have players that make more more than some entire teams, it becomes impossible for many teams to be competitive. I think the only hope of restoring the balance would be if MLB.TV takes off and becomes the biggest source of revenue. That would allow the playing field to be leveled. I'm not holding my breath.

Blame your owner, who most likely is sitting on a ton of money that he doesn't feel like investing in the team.

Because some mod knew that it would annoy you?

The 1963 Mets actually had a 5 game winning streak, lost 2, and then won another, so not only did they go 5-2 over 7 games, they went 6-2 over 8 games.

Oh, and I just realized I misread the results of the 1962 Mets, who were an even worse team, and they might be more interesting.

From May 6 to May 20, they went 9-3, including stretches of 5-1, 5-2 & 6-2.

Then they lost 17 in a row. Literally. Started May 21, right after their longest winning streak (3) ended.

Exactly, 7 games is analogous to 1 NFL game. Every team (except two in all of history) wins at least one game per year. 2-4 games is average for the worst stinkers.

Indians suck this year, they'll be out of it by mid-June.

What with Grady Sizemore and Lonnie Chisenhall still to come, the Indians will hit this year. But the pitching, not so much.

Disagree. The Indians have so many legit MLB prospects in the high minors at this point (just about everyone in their rotation at AA and AAA is a C+ or better prospect, with quite a few good relief guys as well) that they SHOULD find a way to put together a good rotation and bullpen throughout the year. I'm actually more worried about LaPorta, Hafner, Sizemore and Brantley putting together a solid season. And getting solid production out of 3B (As I doubt Jack Hannahan will continue to hit nearly this well).
