Well, I won't be streaming it, but if somebody wants to do that, it would be *COOL*.

/You should look into EchoLink. VoIP for Hams.

Bummer. Lack of rig, or lack of interest?

Look for me on 20 meters and 40 meters. I'm firing up the Drake station.

Excellent! I plan on operating on 40 Meters part of the time, just so that I can get "local" stations like you. If you want to pre-arrange a time, let me know.

/"Local" meaning within a few hundred miles

Not a HAM (it's on my to do list) but I'll try to listen in, almost certainly with little or no success.

Look for me on 40 meters at the top of the hour at 1800 and 1900 UTC. My Fark profile is outdated as I no longer live in Boston. QTH is now the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I'll be old school with 1970's vintage solid state.

Just one caution: Some people don't like to use their callsigns on Fark, so just post that you heard whatever their FARKname is on such and such a freq.

Maryland is still "local". Probably wouldn't work on 20 Meters, especially since I use a J-pole for low-angle radiation. I'll be using my Kenwood TS-520. Solid state except for a 12BY7A tube driver and two 6146B tube finals.

/Had to dig my mic out of the drawer, I'm a die-hard CW guy.
//Yes, I have a 20 Meter J-pole. It's 50 feet tall, and strung up in a tree.

I'll keep that in mind, though I seriously doubt I'll be able to pick much up with the little shortwave receiver I have. I can pick up a lot of overseas stuff at night but most of it is high power transmitters I believe. I've gotten English language propaganda from North Korea but I don't know if the station is actually IN DPRK or broadcasts elsewhere. I do hear HAMs frequently so we'll see.

Go to globaltuners.com and find an Internet controlled receiver to listen to. I used it to check out my HF rig. Key up, announce a test, then hear myself streaming back.

Creepy - just passed my General last night (22 years between Tech. and General) and then see this today.

Have HF equipment in the pipeline, but not today.

Good luck with the contacts and I'll check in next time for sure.

If I hear anything (which I doubt I will), I won't post callsigns then. Seems strange though, it's not like a SSN or mother's maiden name. I can't apply for credit using someone's call sign.... or CAN I? Seriously, out of curiosity, why would anyone not want to disclose that?

Damn, I learned something new about ham radio today. Didn't know about the remote receiver at W4MQ. This is me tuning my finals up on 40 Meters:

i51.tinypic.com

I'm the little line at 7230 kHz.

/Tried on 20 Meters first, but Virginia is just too close. It couldn't hear me.

Name and address associated with license are public record and easily searchable by callsign.

Just a guess.

I'm actually looking forward to this!! I'll certainly be on the air. Put up a new antenna yesterday!

It's been a while since I've done any serious listening below 30 MHz and only have the telescoping antenna that's on my receiver. Guess I could run a quick longwire from the garage to a tree. Any other suggestions?

Well if that's the case that certainly makes sense. But then the same goes for domain names owned. Well, there are ways around that at least.

Oh, it's the case. Just go to arrl.org and enter a callsign in the callsign search box in the upper right corner of the main page. Try w5yj (local repeater that's been around forever) as an example.

That certainly is the case. Just go to http://www.qrz.com, for example, and put in a callsign. For instance, you can use Joe Walsh (of Eagles fame) WB6ACU.

Nah, because then you have to submit logs, and all that other crap. This is a QSO Party, with the emphasis on "Party". It's actually more of a "Special Event", really. Just away for FARKers to meet on the air.

A long wire is probably the quickest to put up. I'd go with that.

That would be great, if I was an extra. I'm only a general. Pick something higher than 21.275.
