Sounds like he brought a pellet gun to a pool cue fight.

I hope they used duct tape as opposed to that other duct tape. Ya know...the tape for ducts and not ducks.

Anyone noticed that, since 9/11, less armed robberies seem to be completed successfully? I think people have started realizing they are able to fight back when needed.

This really sounds like my local bar. I would *HATE* to see someone try to rob it. The only thing more frightening than the bartenders are the patrons (myself excluded).

fta As Cunningham held the gun threateningly on a couple of women, a man snuck up behind him and whacked him on the head

"whacked"

that's just great

If you're at a bar/tavern that actually gets robbed then you need to find a new one.

TheCableGuy: Anyone noticed that, since 9/11, less armed robberies seem to be completed successfully?

So people who used to rely on weapons such as sawed-off shotguns are now successfully completing robberies despite being less armed, e.g., armed only with a pellet gun?

/ "less" != "fewer"

Or "armed with only a pellet gun" -- take your pick.

Old man sitting on his front porch down in Louisiana, watching the sun rise, sees the neighbor's kid walk by carrying something big under his arm. He yells out "Hey boy, whatcha got there?"

Boy yells back "Roll of chicken wire."

Old man says "What you gonna do with that?"

Boy says "Catch some chickens."

Old man yells "You damn fool, you can't catch chickens with chicken wire!" Boy just laughs and keeps walking.

That evening at sunset the boy comes walking by and to the old man's surprise he is dragging behind him the chicken wire with about 30 chickens caught in it.

Same time next morning the old man is out watching the sun rise and he sees the boy walk by carrying something kind of round in his hand. Old man yells out "Hey boy, whatcha got there?"

Boy yells back "Roll of duck tape."

Old man says "What you gonna do with that?"

Boy says back "Catch me some ducks."

Old man yells back, "You damn fool, you can't catch ducks with duck tape!" Boy just laughs and keeps walking.

That night around sunset the boy walks by coming home and to the old man's amazement he is trailing behind him the unrolled roll of duck tape with about 35 ducks caught in it.

Same time next morning the old man sees the boy walking by carrying what looks like a long reed with something fuzzy on the end. Old man says "Hey boy, whatcha got there?"

Boy says "It's a pussy willow."

Old man says "Hold on, I'll get my hat."

I like it when robberies fail. this story reminded me of a story that happened in one of my favorite bars. Unfortunately, the robbers used real guns, and the guy who fought back was shot twice. I think it was his birthday, too. Fortunately, he survived.

I wouldn't have fought back. No amount of money is worth getting shot for. Plus, I don't even carry cash, so who cares, I'm not liable for my stolen credit card charges anyways. ejoy using that card that will make it all the easier to find you. Might kill someone for my grandfather's watch, though -- really the only thing I own that would really depress me to lose.

here's a video, maybe nsfw if violence is not suitable for work, shows a robbery, a guy fighting back, and him getting shot.

Happened in Tennesse. The lawyers would laugh at the lad for proposing it.

I pretty much agree, however, the moment somebody is willing to point a gun at people to to forcibly take their money, they're drastically increasing the odds of somebody getting shot anyways - something happens to startle them, somebody moves wrong, etc...

As such, I think taking such people down is, considering first order effects, indeed more dangerous, but when you consider second or third order effects, people universally responding with violence might actually be safer. I say this because a robber who succeeds is a robber who's most likely going to try again, and the risk of injury/death increases with each robbery. If the robber is caught or otherwise taken off the streets, it increases the safety of the law abiding population. Tertitary effects would include people who don't turn to robbery in the first place due to the perception of danger.

I'll note that a 'middle ground' is probably safer yet - respond with violence when the odds favor you. Do this enough and there won't be a significant number of violent thieves out there.
