A 21 handicap is not playing at a "competitive level".

Well, if his handicap is that significant, maybe he *is* disabled...

My friend's dad has been getting disability for years for a back "injury" that he received while stationed in Kosovo. Surprisingly, he is still able to do all his own yard work, golf, ski, etc., but he is too "disabled" to work. Pisses me off.

article:

1) Benefit chief caught playing golf

2) A benefits cheat who claimed he could not walk more than 25 yards was caught out [...]

This is beyond a typographical error or dyslexia; it's more like the headline writer couldn't spell "cheat" despite its presence in the article, typed "chiet [sic]" or something, and then clicked through spell-check without even paying attention to the substantive meaning of the suggestions.

Feh.

Looking over his shoulder when he swings isn't likely to improve that, either

That thing is cool, but I imagine it would be tough to win a long drive competition due to the fact that the swing is all arms, no leg drive.

I suppose the other option would be to sit and home and feel sorry for yourself, though.

With this kind of deterrent you'd be crazy to try to get away with it!

Normal cause of that is the Arkansas education system, though I am trying to correct that with a college education and English classes.

Not being able to judge your friend's dad condition over the internet, but some people are able to do limited amount of activities like yard work, but still unable to put in a full days work.

Disability doesn't simply mean someone has to sit at home in bed all day, it just means they can not work a full day, all day, a certain amount of days per week.

I'm not defending this particular guy, but there are some people who have severe disabilities yet appear to be perfectly healthy.

I have A.S. (bamboo spine,) which causes disabling pain regardless of whether I'm stationary or active, but doctor's suggest keeping active. I don't look disabled, because I'm not in a wheelchair and don't use a cane in public. Despite this, it doesn't mean I'm not experiencing some sort of pain from mild to severe throughout the day, and it doesn't mean I'm going to show it in my face or by the way I walk if I can help it. Yes, I hide my disability. Drugs help hide it, too. Behind that wall is a scared boy hiding in the bath tub in the fetal position sucking his thumb and crying. I hide that from myself, so nobody is going to see it when I'm out in public.

Yeah, yeah, cool story bro. Oh, the point! The point is they need reform in disability cases to weed out the fakers so legitimate cases can carry on freely without worrying whether or not mowing your lawn is going to make you ineligible to collect.

/not collecting disability.
//might have to someday

I don't know man, community service sucks. Not sure why people think it's just a slap on the wrist. It's better than jail but if I had the choice of 100 hours community service and a week in jail I would take jail.

/Had to make that decision before.

Yeah, and while this asshat gets disability in the UK for what amounts to an inconvenient back, I'll probably be denied here even having 3 herniated discs with multi-level bilateral nerve root compressions with bilateral sciatica, degenerative disc disease, central canal stenosis, and facet osteoarthritis.

Pill painkillers do nothing much for me. And then the other morning I bent over to pick up something before getting into my truck, and when I stood upright again it was like being stabbed in the lower right back. I collapsed into my seat and took 30 minutes to orient myself enough to drive to the Emergency Room. They had to wheelchair me in, and once I managed to sit on the edge of the bed it took me 45 minutes to transition to laying on my side, while waiting for the ER doc to see me.

They ran an IV and gave me dilaudid (superduper morphine), valium for muscle relaxation, and toradol for inflammation and I still couldn't walk out. They had to do it all over again which finally took the edge off enough to let me walk out of there.

Yet in America I'll probably be denied repeatedly while being an inch away from homelessness on the first of every month until family and friends scrape up enough to keep me off the street while waiting for disability.
