Thats just WRONG!

/RIP Freddie

I don't know who this guy is and quite honestly - it doesn't matter. Some bands you can get away with subbing in a new lead singer (Styx, Journey, etc.) as long as the 'sound alike' (easy enough in most cases.) But not here.

Freddie Mercury was - seriously - one of the quintesential rock singers of all time. You cannot replace him nor should you try. I appreciate the remaining members want to keep making their music - but there is no replacing Freddie.

2003-08-05 05:22:53 PM
This can not happen - c'mon Freddy can not be replaced

2003-08-05 05:38:31 PM
Agreed, there will never be another Freddie Mercury. There are very few singers near that calibur and none of them would fit...

2003-08-05 05:45:48 PM
The rumour a few years back was that George Michael was up for the job

2003-08-05 05:56:04 PM
Kill it quickly.

2003-08-05 05:56:39 PM
I've always turned to the Queen tribute band Kween, for all my current Queen needs.

2003-08-05 05:56:59 PM
I concur - there can never be, nor will they ever come close to, a replacement for Freddie Mercury. The man had a range of something like 7 octaves... probably more, but if you have any idea about vocals, and listen to some of his songs, you'll understand. I think the only singer that's ever come close to a range like that is the lead singer from Queensryche.

2003-08-05 05:59:34 PM
TheOmni: How 'bout a sample? I've never heard them...

2003-08-05 05:59:40 PM
Another one bites the dust

Amen!! Geoff Tate and Queensryche are completely awesome. Empire and Operation:Mindcrime are still some of my favorite albums of all time. Wonder where they are now though...

2003-08-05 07:34:32 PM
Meh, you can't replace Freddie. Everybody knows this.

2003-08-05 08:35:24 PM
Noooooo! isn't this the guy who sang "st. elmos fire?"

Nooooooo!

/wrong

2003-08-05 08:36:33 PM
On a related note, I know that the Who are looking for a rhythym section and Macca and Ringo are available...

Feh! I say!

"I want it all/And I want it now..."

2003-08-05 08:37:56 PM
John Parr sang st. elmos

2003-08-05 08:38:07 PM
"if it comes to fruition?"

That some kind of crack about Freddie? The man who put the fruit into fruition?

No way you can replace him.. his vocal style and range was unique.

2003-08-05 08:39:14 PM
Wonder where they are now though...

They just played Jones Beach a few weeks back. Kick ass show.

The new CD, "Tribes", is fairly good too.

2003-08-05 08:39:14 PM
u hate queen. u dont know why anyone finds anything special about them. u wish they would just go away already

2003-08-05 08:39:42 PM
Ok then, who the fark is John "not freddie" Farnham?

2003-08-05 08:42:02 PM
oh god no

2003-08-05 08:42:22 PM
lets judge the climate of this thread...as bad as the new Doors?

2003-08-05 08:43:19 PM
We'll all be waiting for that....I'm sure.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have tickets to see Def Leppard/White Snake/Journey tonight.....you'd think when you're having to play clubs that hold 35 people, you'd just give up, and you know....get a job or something....anyway, I hope when they go into the "Here's something off the new album" mode someone gets hit with a beer bottle. That's always classic.

2003-08-05 08:43:53 PM
David Bowie would be an interesting choice, otherwise, no.

2003-08-05 08:44:34 PM
Queen II, I wonder who else their managemet team handles, Backstreet Boys???

2003-08-05 08:45:48 PM
David Bowie would be the only halfway acceptable choice, except he has go off on a completely different music direction

2003-08-05 08:45:58 PM
John sucks, I've heard his "so called" music, do yourself a favor and ignore that and maybe.....just maybe it will all go away

/hopes it will really go away also hopes John dies a horrible death

2003-08-05 08:46:47 PM
John Farnam was the front man for Little River Band for a time.

2003-08-05 08:46:56 PM

On tour with Dream Theater.

2003-08-05 08:47:12 PM
also, this deserves an tag

2003-08-05 08:47:30 PM
but what was his so-called music?
john farnhams that is?

2003-08-05 08:47:42 PM
For those that don't know John Farnham, his famous hit was called Sadie, the Cleaning Lady in 1967, which was sung in a high pitch even Freddie Mercury would be envious of.

Having "Whispering Jack" John Farnham would be sacreligious like replacing INXS frontman Michael Hutchence with Jon Stevens.

Oh wait..

2003-08-05 08:48:28 PM
*draws blank* little river band?

2003-08-05 08:49:14 PM

2003-08-05 08:49:52 PM
Riiight....and Led Zeppelin will reunite with Animal, of Muppets fame, on the skins.

I hate to be a dick....but I think you meant "his so called 'music'" not "his 'so called' music." See, as it is, you're pointing out that "so called" is the part wrong with the phrase....when I'm assuming you meant "music" was the problem. Unless you're a really big fan of his and are making fun of people making fun of his so called "music", in which case.....well done.

2003-08-05 08:51:39 PM
I suppose as the Fake Freddie Mercury for Qween he'll be HIB-positive.

2003-08-05 08:52:10 PM

Oh, and Queen rock. Let their memory rest in peace instead of trying to resurrect it.

M0ppy:

I saw Queensryche with Dream Theater in June, and I'm sorry to say that Geoff's voice isn't what it used to be. He didn't seem to be able to hit the notes the way he used to. He could've just been having an off-night, but many of my friends who have caught his shows in their cities have told me the same thing about his voice. It's a shame. He was always one of my favorite singers and I think that Operation:Mindcrime is one of the best albums of all time.

Who's the other missing member of the original Queen, the bassist I assume since only May and the drummer are mentioned along with the new singer.

I wonder if he was dropped or dropped out because he objected?

Didn't anyone learn anything from the incredibly lame Doors 2.0?

2003-08-05 08:57:18 PM
CMon John FarKham Who ?

Queen will never be the same !

Ever seen a Queen concert !

Freddie had a crowd wrapped around his finger
Mr Mercury wrote songs ,sang opera ,played piano , no one will replace him , NEVER !

Watch Direct Tv FreeView this month Queen at Wembley

You will see why , he cant be replaced !

Freddie M may be gone , but Rodger ,Brian and John will never let a "has been " front this band

They dont need the money !

A Biography of
John Farnham

in case you care... After reading it, I know I don't care.
On the lighter side of things.. Def Leppard is playing a gig in my town tomorrow, and they think they can sell tickets for $44!

Am I the only one that WOULD pay $44 to see the stump, and his huge drumstick?

Wow....I meant that to be blatantly offensive to amputees....but it wound up just sounding gay.

While I agree that replacing a front-man for a group often isn't such a great idea, John Farnham, aka Johnny Farnham, aka Farnsey, is a true Australian legend, but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea for him to front them.

He's yer classic Australian.. he did a concert for our troops in east timor (not that I expect any of you americans to know about any conflicts around the world that don't involve deployment of your troops, as CNN doesn't report them) and they literally shouted him into performing Sadie the cleaning lady, which he hates doing. At the end of the song, he said "I hope you're happy... and guess what? I'm sleeping in a nice hotel bed in Darwin tonight".. and got an applause from them for that little joke :)

maybe - just maybe - fer krystsakes - they aren't replacing freddie mercury. Maybe - just maybe - they are getting on with life. Maybe just maybe the mourning period is way passed over. Maybe, just maybe, Queen was a damn fine band that freddie mercury was a part of, not all of. Unlike you overly melodramatic drama-queens, I look forward to hearing new stuff from a combined talent of the remaining members and a new voice. It COULD be good, but of course, you wont give them a chance because bucktooth wont be squealing out front.

Sorry to sound like a troll, but really kids, wipe the tears already and move on. I loved Queen. Freddie Mercury was easily in the top 5 best voices of rock music ever. I bought every single album/tape/CD they made and they are a cherished part of my collection.

The boys want a new front man and they want to give us new music. I am really stoked at the idea of that!
