But then NYers didnt even show up to see Mantle hit his 500th HR on a beautiful day either, the fans just turn out when its convenient for them or they are winning. They are not good fans, they are front running fans, the cubs/cardinals probably have the best fans in baseball.

Cardinals, sure, and the Cubs have some good fans, but Wrigley for years has been filled with people who want to get hammered in a baseball-themed outdoor beer garden and just acted as enablers for the piss-poor management from ownership that for years was fine with maintaining the status quo of futility, because if the stadium is filling up even when they suck, why mess with that formula.

Does Yankee stadium have a ton of empty seats, particularly on less-than-nice weather days? Yes, but most-to-all of those seats are sold (which is really the bottom line). Thing is, the ones that can afford those seats are usually the same ones that wouldn't dare have their $200 coif mussed by a harsh breeze or get a drop of rain on their Armani. Its a damned shame that the most visible seats on TV, the ones directly behind the plate, are also the most expensive (up to $1600, no joke) and usually the emptiest.

Best way to get a gauge of what the 'real fan' attendance is to look at the bleachers.
