HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... You're funny.

Even as a Sox fan I will admit that it's funny to listen to the exact same fans who predicted 100+ games are now saying that they're in danger of missing the playoffs.

EABOD Subby, the Indians have had a couple rebuilding years, but they are by no means a bad team. Between Shin-Soo Choo, Carlos Santana, Travis Hafner looking good again, Asdrubal Cabrera, and the return of Grady Sizemore, they have a fairly solid top of the lineup.

It's not like they're the Pirates or something.

The season's division leaders, God help us:

AL

East: Baltimore Orioles 4-0
Central: Kansas City Royals 4-1 (WTF?!)
West: Texas Rangers 5-0

NL

East: New York Mets 3-1
Central: Cincinnati Reds 4-0
West: San Diego Padres 3-1

I am fairly certain at the end of this season it will be Twins in Wild Card. Because if the Yankees and The Twins face each other in Round 1 AGAIN, there will be fatalities. Believe me.

Sure, it's always best to make predictions on eventual outcomes and gloat at current standings with less than three percent of the season over. On the other hand, what happened to THE GREATEST TEAM EVER?

2011-04-06 07:38:52 AM
Oh come on. The Indians have become a pretty good team. Now, if you had been talking the Royals.........

Fatalities? Are you suggesting there'll be riots and suicides after the Twins get swept by the Yankees in the first round, AGAIN?

Man, the Sox suck out loud right now. Crawford needs to find his bat, and maybe Tek needs to get back behind the plate, cause Salty isn't calling a good game like Tek does.

Publikwerks: Crawford needs to find his bat, and maybe Tek needs to get back behind the plate, cause Salty isn't calling a good game like Tek does.

The bats need to wake up, so you're right in the first half of this sentence. Salty is working the game just fine. It's not his fault that a) the Rangers are on fire right now and they'll hit anything that's remotely near the plate and b) that Sox pitchers have been throwing batting practice for the other team. I think the biggest problem is that the players are putting too much pressure on themselves to be "The Greatest Team Ever" instead of just going out there and playing the game. Nobody wins with that mentality because the players are trying to force things to happen instead of playing well.

Publikwerks: cause Salty isn't calling a good game like Tek does

Just stop. Sox fans that think the pitching problems are because Varitek "isn't calling the game" are just as bad as the people who think the sky is falling because they're off to a bad start.

Against the Rangers the home runs that were hit were the result of pitchers missing their spots. There were two that were hit when Salty called for the ball off the plate and Lester put it down the middle missing the spot. There was one that was hit (by Kinsler?) up the left field line that was an inside curveball off his shoelaces. Stop the madness. Varitek is a good catcher, but not to such a degree that it dramatically changes the pitching quality.

Ding ding ding... From what I've seen the pitchers have generally been on the same page as Salty on pitches called (except for Beckett last night). The pitchers have just either missed their spot or the batters have made some incredible swings.

I'll chuckle if Matsuzaka is the first pitcher to get a W this year.

Jedekai: Central: Kansas City Royals 4-1 (WTF?!)

I have an explanation for this: I can never watch another KC Royals game again.

First 4 games: Did not see any part of any game. The only time I interacted with a game in any way was catching the score via the web of the opening game day at some point during work. Result: Lost opening day, then 3 straight walk-off wins.

Last night: Get home, letting the girls play and tire themselves out before bed. I switch over from Backyardigans to the game, it's 0-0 in the first. Within 5 pitches, Hochevar has given up 3 runs. I laugh and go find an NBA game.

Couple hours later: Girls finally in bed, I get on my computer, check the score. It's 4-4 in the top of the 6th, I decide to leave the score page up while I play a bit of Minecraft. Within 5 minutes, the White Sox have put up 2 runs. I laugh again and close the score window.

Right before bed: I load up the scores again just to see how badly they lost, and it's tied in the 10th. I immediately close my browser window and go to bed.

This morning: Another walk-off win in the 12th.

I am now officially avoiding any and all contact or interaction with the Royals during their games. I'm not a superstitious man, but I'm just going to go with this until I have reason not to.

I expected to see Beckett shake off Salty a lot because he has a history of being very particular about who he throws to. I wasn't able to watch as much of the game as I wanted to last night but did see it a few times. One time it appeared like they went through three iterations before Salty called time-out and reset himself in his stance before trying again.

As for Daisuke: Power nibbler for the win. Walks are better than homeruns from meatballs over the middle. ;)

"Controversial call not reviewed cost the Twins game 2 of the series leading to 3 straight Yankee wins"

The Twins played their first 3 games in Toronto and their next two in The Bronx, two places where they have a notoriously hard time winning. The fact that they're 2-3 is actually a pretty good sign, and if they can pull off another win today or tomorrow against the Yankees, it'll be a successful road trip.

A 4-game losing streak during June wouldn't get nearly as much attention. Don't overrate the first week of the season, kids. Even if I'd like to since the Mets are 3-1.

Not a huge bball fan but I used to always cheer the Red Sox because they were the underdog to the Yankees...which I hate. But now the Red Sox act like they are the cock of baseball and the yanks are the ballsack.

There are only 156 games left. That's it, they're done. Might as well not even play the rest of the season, there's no way to overcome 4 losses with that few games remaining.

Dog Welder: OH NOES! With 172 games to go, can they ever catch up?

It's actually very easy:
* the Red Sox get sucked into a black hole so that they can annul the last 4 games
* the same parallel universe has a season 10 games longer than this universe
* a bunch of old guys in Boston uniforms get 10 years younger in the process and start to hit the ball

I somehow missed that one. Still, Beckett's been very good before. I guess Lackey's had one good year, but it looks kinda lucky.

Note to GMs: Don't pay 12-18m a year for a decent pitcher.

From a Peter Gammons tweet:
