Whoot! for the men of the Old English "D".

/has friends in Motown, and remembers when the old bleacher seats were $4.00 a pop.

2003-08-04 09:12:44 AM
I'll wager a dollar that the Tigers will not have a winning season.

2003-08-04 09:13:50 AM
Ad they must go 11-42 (or get some help from the weather) to exceed the futility of the '62 Mets. Guess which is more likely to happen.

2003-08-04 09:16:37 AM
good luck

2003-08-04 09:17:01 AM
detroit baseball sucks.
if only illitch cared half as much about the tigers as he does about the wings. maybe we could attract/retain quality.

2003-08-04 09:23:51 AM
add sound effect: Krusty the Klown groan.

2003-08-04 09:24:14 AM
Once the Tigers pay off some of the money they owe on Comerica Park, they will slowly come back.

2003-08-04 09:25:16 AM
I'm hoping they lose the rest. It would be quite the accomplishment.

2003-08-04 09:30:10 AM
My grandfather used to play for Detroit back when they didn't suck, and he's disgusted with the losers...

2003-08-04 09:34:07 AM
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! And it aint over now!

2003-08-04 09:36:31 AM
The only way they have a chance is the play the White Sox for all 53 remaining.

/disgruntled Sox fan

2003-08-04 09:40:03 AM
43-119 is what they will finish with.

2003-08-04 09:55:02 AM
In the late '80s, when they also sucked quite badly, they finished one season one loss away from the worst record in Tigers history.

Then-manager Sparky Anderson quipped, "We were so bad, we couldn't even break the record."

Oh, they'll break that record this year. But I got a feeling they'll be so bad, they'll screw up in the last week of the season, go on like a four- or five-game winning streak, and not get the Mets' modern record.

But as one Detroit baseball writer put it a few days ago, to compare this Tigers team to the Mets is to do a grave disservice to the Mets. They were an expansion team in their first season. There were 20 teams then. Now there are 30. The Tigers are playing a much more diluted talent pool, and they've been around, uh, a little while.

2003-08-04 09:55:58 AM
Yea, so on Sportscenter they said the Yanks have the highest payroll-to-win ratio. Yea, wait a week or two, the Mets will.

Mets: $116,253,927/45=$2,583,420.60
Yanks: $180,322,403/67=$2,691,379.15

...a difference of $107,958.55.

2003-08-04 09:57:56 AM
Oh, in case you were wondering, the Rangers are third, almost $500,000 behind the Yankees.

2003-08-04 10:05:26 AM
Thats exactly it dsmo. Also they have crap in the farm system as well. Blame Randy Smith. Not Ilitch. I wouldn't spend money on free agents either until they have there crap together from the mess Mr. Adequate got us in.

2003-08-04 10:11:55 AM
i was telling my friends a few weeks ago that my beloved tigers would have to win out in order to make a run for the division title--i guess there are only 53 more chances for them.

oh well, i'll be back next year to watch them lose some more games. bless you, boys in blue! i'm a tigers fan to the death.

2003-08-04 10:14:03 AM

Well, at least the the sports fans of Detroit have the mighty Detroit Lions season to lokk ... forward .... to ...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! OMFG !!!!!

...

Sorry, I tried to say it sincerely, just couldn't do it. You guys are farked.

2003-08-04 10:14:41 AM
har-dee-har-har!

Yeah, we Detroit fans are definitely farked...

2003-08-04 10:15:13 AM
Yes, they owe a shiatload on Comerica Park and player salaries from some of the contracts asshats in the front office signed to some of the players who aren't even very good.

Does anyone else ever notice that once players leave the Tigers they do pretty good? All supporting the statement that the Tigers are the official farm team of Major League Baseball.

GO BLUE!

2003-08-04 10:20:28 AM
too bad they will get crushed by the Spartans! Hahaha.

2003-08-04 10:21:13 AM
I'll be watching U of M football, but the Lions could suprise some people. I hear they could win up to 6 games.

2003-08-04 10:22:38 AM
Yet, Everyone of those fellas make more than any of us farkers. I say we start hunting down the superwealthy for thier tender and tasty meat.

2003-08-04 10:24:25 AM
The sad thing is, the trade deadline passed, and the Tigers weren't able to do any dump deals to help them in the future, because there simply wasn't ANYONE on the team a pennant contender would trade for.

Bobby Higginson? Nah. Sucks.

Dmitri Young? Hmmm...well... Nah.

"Who else ya got? Really? Well....uhh...hey the line's breaking up kzzzz wwooowoobzzzz...."

too bad they will get crushed by the Spartans! Hahaha.

From last season (mgoblue.com):
Date Rank Opponent W/L Score
Nov. 2 15 Michigan State* W 49-3

I predict that this year the Wolverines will beat the Spartans by over 46 points.

2003-08-04 10:37:51 AM
They should ask Barry Sanders to come out of retirement... he could hit a few touchdowns outta tha park!

2003-08-04 10:46:09 AM
Even our precious Red Wings failed us this season. I know all of us Michiganers will start football season with faith in our Lions but we know what will happen. Actually I havent watched baseball since the strike so I dont care about the Tigers. But holding the worst team in history title would be rather amusing!

2003-08-04 10:51:27 AM
And now they're gonna want to fire Trammell. SELL THE TEAM ILLITCH. NO REASON ANYONE SHOULD OWN TWO PROFESSIONAL TEAMS.

2003-08-04 10:52:19 AM
Come on people of Michigan, you got the Wolverines! Fark pro sports anyway, just beat Ohio St. this year damnit. Those paper champs deserve the worst...

2003-08-04 10:53:06 AM
I want them to go 39-123...get the Mets off that record.

/Bring back Davey Johnson to Shea.

2003-08-04 10:53:16 AM
jeep44: STFU!

On a related note, when I was in Vegas last month, the odds against the tigers winning the world series were 5000/1. I can't imagine what it's up to now.

Go wings go.

/only thing in Det. worth cheering for.

/actually, I wanna see what Darko can do with Wallace this year too...

2003-08-04 11:03:56 AM
I mostly agree with SVTCobra, that it was Randy Smith's fault, but Ilitch deserves a lot of the blame too. Ilitch intermittently and randomly allowed/ordered Randy Smith to spend money. That itself is a pretty bad strategy. To compound the problem, Randy Smith spent the money foolishly.

2003-08-04 11:07:10 AM
This story deserves worse than an 'unlikely' tag...

2003-08-04 11:14:48 AM
What they should do is, see, is get a rag-tag collection of colorful players and personalities in the clubhouse, including wise-cracking young black men with speed, trashy criminal types, foreigners with funny accents and strange beliefs, crusty coaches and managers, junk-ball pitchers, and a broken-down star looking for one last chance at glory.

Mix well with a biatchy owner, a disgruntled fan base, and a sarcastic and fatalistic commentator, and they have a recipe for winning the division!!! It works.

Hey Detroit sports fans, at least you have had championships in the past 20 years (Red Wings and Pistons).

Try never seeing one of your teams win one since you've been old enough to be a fan.

Damn Philly curse.

NO REASON ANYONE SHOULD OWN TWO PROFESSIONAL TEAMS.

I'm with you on this one. Can you tell Jerry Reinsdorf the same thing, please?

2003-08-04 11:20:42 AM
What pisses me off is that it still costs +$5 to get a beer in the stadium. They should lower the price of a brew the worse they get...until everyone's too drunk to care.

I'd say beer sould be going for about a dollar right now.

2003-08-04 11:36:09 AM
maybe we can count the rest of their wins for the season towards NEXT year to give them a sporting chance.

go blue!

2003-08-04 11:53:04 AM
Yah, we do have the Pistons and Red Wings to look forward too. Can't wait till I hear Big Ben's bell ringing throughout the Palace.

2003-08-04 11:56:09 AM
hemphreysrevenge: "My eyes! The goggles do nothing!"

::sigh::

So I'm a Tigers fan, a Lions fan, and a Michigan State fan.

One day... just you wait and see...

2003-08-04 12:00:25 PM
damn and I thought the Devil Rays sucked. At least now I know there are worse teams out there...

Try never seeing your favorite team win one since you've been old enough to be a fan, since your father has been old enough to be a fan, even since your grandfather was old enough to be a fan or even ALIVE.

Hey did anyone notice?

Detriot Tigers Suck

Detriot Lions Suck

Detriot Pistons Suck

It is hard to critize (sp?) the Tigers when I am a San Diego Padres fan. I mean come on, the Padres have the worst record in the National League. The Padres have finished dead last in the NL West for the past 5 or so seasons. But there is just something about the Padres. Everyone knows that they suck, but the fans will keep rooting them on, because maybe one year they will just suprise someone and go to the playoffs. Hey it could happen, and to quote Wayne's World, monkeys might fly out of my butt.

When rooting for a losing team in baseball, don't look at how many games it takes to get to first place, (26 games back). Instead look at how many games to the wild card. In my beloved Padres case, only 19 games back from the Wildcard baby! World Series here we come! Wooohoooo!!!

2003-08-04 12:58:47 PM
I can't spell worth a damn

2003-08-04 12:59:37 PM
OK,so MSU sucked last year, and UofM beats us most of the time. But the few times we win are 1000 times sweeter than when you win. so there.
