Timely article.

I like that guy. Craig Ferguson, I mean.

Erm, why was the expletive hidden behind an Australian flag?
Mr Ferguson is Scottish so either use the St Andrews Cross or the full Union Flag. Thank you.

Derps

More shows should adopt the "Using flags and foreign words as censorship" policy

/also, good point too late

Seeing as how the video is from FEBRUARY, I'd say this post is too late. and also a repeat from the end of February.

See we have progressed as a society. We used to have to pay a penny to watch lunatics. Now we get to watch for free.

It's a recurring gag on the show. They frequently censor Craig's language with something random. For a while it was a Mexican flag and "Aye carumba!" The more you know.

They rotate through flags. You'll usually see at least 3-4 per episode.

Then there's also Sheen selling $100 tickets for his "Fleece the Rubes" tour this month.

Indeed I do. Thanks for that and I unreservedly retract my Derps.

I think that when I watched regularly, they were doing the Spanish thing a lot because Craig was trying to learn the language. Either that, or he's been more bleep-worthy lately. Now I'm all inspired to start watching again.

"Crikey Dingo" when he's bleeped with the Australian flag.
"Aye Carumba" with a Mexican flag.
"Whats-a-come-an-a-go" or "Tutsi Fruitsi" with an Italian flag.
"Sacre Bleu" with a French flag.

There may be others that I'm just not recalling at the moment.

I never thought I'd see the day when Conan was my 2nd favorite late-night host

I think they also vary slightly based on how long the thing they're bleeping is. "Crikey!" might be for something short but they break out "hinder yer dingo!" or "whats-a-comm-an-a-go" when he's putting extra stress (and thus making it slightly longer) on "farking."

2011-04-01 03:41:01 PM
He makes a great point in a charming way.

2011-04-01 03:48:12 PM
The flags thing started a couple of years ago. Craig would cuss, a French flag would cover his mouth, with "Ooh, la, la" for the bleep...you know, "pardon my French."

When Craig wanted to learn Spanish, it switched to a Spanish flag, and "Aye Carumba." It seems like the joke just went from there.

His show was recently picked up by an Australian network, so they used the Aussie flag for a while in honor of their new viewers.

And we don't have to travel to the local mental ward. We can witness the insanity from the comfort of our living room.

he did basically the same thing when Britney was in her crisis (don't want to say meltdown due to current events)

in her defense though. Supposedly that creepy guy who wormed his way into her life and became her manager for a short while, was messing with her meds and giving her other drugs for the purpose of controlling her.

Charlies probs seem to be self inflicted

2011-04-01 04:58:22 PM
He did the same kinda thing for Britney. But it was even more moving.

Some of Conan's new shows are good but the monologue is getting weaker and weaker. I like how he makes fun of how bad some of the monologue jokes are but I'm thinking "Then why tell them?" He's great when he's doing those taped bits where he's shooting the shiat with random people. That sounds a lot easier to do too, just do more of that.

/also my 2nd favorite after Ferguson

Yeah I agree completely.. he knows when the skits or jokes are lame as hell, but he goes through with it anyway.. which is unfortunate. He's always been best when he does the unscripted bits like in the taped things you're talking about or during the writer's strike (which ended up being one of the best weeks of late night ever).

I wish he'd get rid of his writers and do the comedy himself.

Also, I like andy richter and all but.. the multi-host format doesn't really work and he's no match for the old announcer and max weinberg dynamic from late night.

Wow this love for Craig F is surprising. I just can't get into his show. Seems his guests hate it too.

Wow. The difference in his accent between that clip and the Charlie Sheen one is quite staggering. How long has he been in the US?

I express this as sincerely as I know how to be: thanks for being the one to introduce me to that. I've never really watched that much of Craig before (or even knew that much about him). That clip ensures that that will definitely change from this point forward.
