Assuming he means "the rest of Africa" and isn't just an idiot, then I would answer "yes, if we were decent human beings, we would go into Sudan, etc." In short: no, no we won't.

I heard a unilateral invasion of two nations is the same as a joint UN Security Council effort to prevent an insane dictator from carpet bombing the equivalent of Mardi Gras streets.

Confirm/deny?

despite his blunder, he has a good point, america has problems of its own, and Libya's problems arent america's problems, the americans werent responsible for gaddafi like it was during the shahs regime in iran

the real culprit is italy, during mussolini's reign they wiped out a large bulk of libya's population, and destroyed their elite, the italian right wing govt under berlusconi even agreed to pay compensation for their crimes

when gaddafi took power libya's literacy rate was only 10%, today libyas litaracy rate is well over 90% and they were rated as africa's most developed country

unfortuantely gaddafi had to use a heavy hand to keep all the tribes and intrigue in check, you can hate gaddafi all you want, but he developed libya's infrastructure, health and education

3/10, I know you can do better.

Cheers.

2011-03-31 12:34:44 PM
God, you have to have a lot of derp to turn his comment from "Do we put ground troops in Libya" into "Libya isn't in Africa".

But that doesn't stop closed-minded lefties from spewing their usual, typical, "if you don't agree with me it's because you're stupid" garbage.

2011-03-31 12:34:56 PM
Meh, when most people who know what they're talking about talk about continental Africa they divide it into nothern and sub-Sahara.

more petty shiat from think progress.

I want to be the guy that freezes assets for foreign dictators

Boss: So how much does Ghadaffi have in foreign accounts?
Me: Well quite a bit, I'll go ahead and look into it and try to put a hold on them
Boss: Isn't it close to 15 billion?
Me: Well its more like 14 billion (after funneling several hundred million into my own accounts)
Boss: Excellent

/obviously much more complicated but you get the idea

jayhawk88: Goddamn it the world pisses me off sometimes. YOU farkERS WERE READY TO LOCK UP ANYONE WHO DARED QUESTION THE IRAQ WAR! It was only 10 years ago, do you think we don't remember?

Hell, I still fight with my mom to this day over that war. I was only 20 when we went to Iraq but even then I remember thinking "What the deuce?" all the way up to the lead up and debated with everyone arguing that Best Korea was a bigger threat to us then than Iraq was.

To this day, mom maintains we did it for our country's security. My sister admitted as recently as last year that she thought Saddam had something to do with 9/11. Ya. Rly.

2011-03-31 12:36:13 PM
Maybe he means 'Do we go into the Africa that does not have oil next?'

/If Obama starts putting boots on the ground, other than the ones that don't officially exist there now, he will pay a price.
//Someone has to aim lasers and know what is going on there.

I'm sure he was leading the fight against going into Afghanistan and Iraq

2011-03-31 12:36:50 PM
I've forgotten who first quoted this, but:

"War is how Americans learn geography."

2011-03-31 12:36:55 PM
Ok, come on guys, give this guy a break. I'm no fan of his, but it's obvious he meant to say "Sub-Saharan Africa", which is a common 'group' of states used in the media, political analysis, academia, etc. It's clear he was making a distinction from MENA (MidEast + N. Africa) which is what Libya would be part of.

This isn't proof he's retarded, just proof he talks faster than his mind can vet what he says.

Come on, lighten up Francises (Franciscans?).

Remember why Limbaugh maintained that Democrats/Liberals wanted to go to Darfur instead of Iraq? Because Dems want black people votes.

2011-03-31 12:38:44 PM
There was a time in America when politicians were voted into office BECAUSE they were the elitists.

2011-03-31 12:39:01 PM
I think what he's getting at is Libya, which is full of brown people, is dangerously close to countries full of black people.

There are two problems with this:

1. Bombing brown people, while OK, can be a problem if it leads to intervening in countries full of black people, which we should be ignoring entirely.

2. Bombing brown people is also problematic when said bombing is initiated by a non-Republican president.

2011-03-31 12:39:49 PM
He might have meant sub-Saharan Africa or as someone above above suggested "the rest of Africa." Or me might have just made a slip of the tongue.

If it is just once, I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Now if he defends what he said as literal, not sloppy language, and not a mistake and/or repeatedly repeats it then I will use the quote against him.

FTFA: "Marino, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House subcommittee on issues related to African foreign policy ..."

It was likely a verbal gaffe. He probably meant to say "sub-Saharan Africa."

/Anyway, I sincerely hope so.
