Mmm, a new tax deduction for being raped. I Republitards might be on to something.

You know, I really wish these people were actually interested in reducing abortion. There are other solutions, you know, like birth control. But this isn't about that. It's about controlling a woman's vagina. "That filthy slut needs to suffer the consequences for her adulterous actions!"

2011-03-31 07:23:36 AM
Really, now that I think about it, this is akin to passing a law that says if you're injured in a car accident - that was your fault - because you didn't wear a seatbelt, and use your own funds to pay for the medical costs, those aren't tax deductible.

Wow, Republicans are REALLY interested in how a woman uses her reproductive organs. Is it just curiosity or is this some kind of attempted cervical annexation?

I'm more and more convinced that Boehner sat in his college frat house stoned out of his mind with his friends one day and ended a conversation by saying "Dude. Seriously. Someday I'm going to have a job where I can get YOU guys a job looking into vaginas all. day. long."

Hey, righties, if you get to pick and choose whether your tax dollars go to abortions, do I get to pick and choose whether my tax dollars go to war?

No, because that isn't pro-life.

It's only adulterous if one party is married

My guess is that most Republicans don't know *anything* about female reproduction. -It's a good thing they still have that whole asexual reproduction thing going on, or there wouldn't be any of them left.

God dam it Repuplitards! I thought you were going to create jobs, how dare you support job stealing babies! I mean seriously those unwanted bastards grow up to be job stealers, and it would be all right if they would just take those dangerous dirty jobs that we pay Mexicans pittance to do, but no they want jobs that allow them to live a middle class lifestyle. I say we need more abortions to curve this horrendous excess labor problem.

That's what being an Atheist's all about. That's why it's the church for me. That's why it's the church for anyone who respects the individual and the individual's right to decide for him or herself. When Madalyn Murray O'Hair nailed her protest up to the church door in 1963, she may not have realised the full significance of what she was doing, but fourty-eight years later, thanks to her, my dear, I can do whatever I want with my vajayjay.

God I am so tired of this.
I'm pro-abortion-rights or whatever you call it, but I used to be concerned about late-term or repeated abortions, without medical reason and so forth. I used to wish less women were getting pregnant at ages and in situations where they could not support a new child.

Now I just don't care. Have an abortion. Have twenty. I don't care. I think the GOP has burned out my concern circuits.

Don't they have a budget to pass??? Why are they wasting their time on legislation like this and whether to continue having "In God We Trust" on the coin when they should be worrying about preventing the government from closing down? These people live in a whole different world than rest of us.

2011-03-31 09:06:20 AM
It just goes to show that Republicans don't really care a bit about taxes, government intrusion, or liberty. All they care about is control and sticking it to the 'others'.

Common Talking Point 1: "Liberals think that it's the government's money, not yours."

Unless it's your money being used to pay for an abortion, before it's been properly taxed. Then it's most certainly the government's money.

Common Talking Point 2: "Government shouldn't be involved in healthcare."

Unless you want to do something we don't like. Then we'll send the whole congress up your hoo-ha.

Common Talking Point 3: "Government should stay out of the way of private business."

Unless that privacy is between you and your doctor...

The truth is that a fetus is not a baby, only a potential baby. It will only become a baby if the mother wants it.

I might potentially become a farmer, can I get some subsidies?

I might potentially become a CEO, can I get a bailout?

For Dems and Repbs, the urge to meddle in the lives of others is strong. Vote for neither: it just encourages them.

Why did you want an abortion?
-For spite.
Spite?
-That's right, I didn't care for the man who got me pregnant.
I don't think you can have an abortion for spite.
-What do you mean?
Well, if there was a problem with the fetus, if it were unsatisfactoy in any way then we could do it for you, but I'm afraid spite doesn't fit into any of our conditions for an abortion.
-That's ridiculous, I want an abortion. What's the difference what the reason is.

Didn't you hear? The GOP and Tea Party turned the economy around! They balanced the budget and we're rolling in capital now! That's why they're able to justify the systematic break down of reproductive choice.

PirateKing: The truth is that a fetus is not a baby, only a potential baby. It will only become a baby if the mother wants it.

I don't think it's a settled question, though. The problem is that both sides act as though it is. Now, before you hit me with the both-sides-are-bad-hurr-durr hammer, know this: my thinking is that since it isn't a settled question, we should err on the side of what is settled: a woman should have the right to decide what happens to her own body.

Can I imagine a time when it becomes settled science? Not really, but even if that does happen, it just becomes a different debate.

2011-03-31 09:13:32 AM
I would think the conservatives would be in favor of abortions simply because it would be poor people (of certain races) who get them meaning fewer welfare recipients. Of course in 18 years there would be a shortage of cannon fodder for our holy wars.

Gabrielmot: My guess is that most Republicans don't know *anything* about female reproduction. -It's a good thing they still have that whole asexual reproduction thing going on, or there wouldn't be any of them left.

They don't know anything about reproduction -- even well-known processes are attributed to God. But fark asexual reproduction; you HONESTLY think these idiots are chaste? The only reason they're so anti-sex now is because they were slutting it up all through their teens and twenties. In fact, wrapping up every vagina in red tape is like bondage to them; it makes the illicit sex sooo much more exciting when she's scared shiatless.

PirateKing: The truth is that a fetus is not a baby, only a potential baby. It will only become a baby if the mother wants it.

Or if nature wants it. One of the trickier issues with anti-abortion legislation is that is essentially drags women who suffer from miscarriages into criminal proceedings. Not that they care about unintended consequences. Again, the more forbidden sex is, the more exciting it is.

CalvinMorallis: Can I imagine a time when it becomes settled science?

It IS settled science. The processes are pretty well understood; about 75% of fertilized eggs don't take and are flushed out -- and that's in a HEALTHY woman. If there is a God, as the engineer of this process He very obviously doesn't care jack shiat about life at conception.

Thing is, talking this kind of sense into far-right derps has been tried. They don't listen, because this isn't about life anyway.

2011-03-31 09:22:36 AM
The democrats and republicans together have always passed legislation that prohibits spending government funds on or subsidizing abortions. This isn't news, it is a fulfillment of their obligation by closing a possible loophole where the government would be subsidizing abortion through tax breaks.

"Settled science" was the wrong way for me to phrase that. More like: we aren't at a point where there is a consensus agreement as to what constitutes a living being, and yet both pro-life and pro-choice advocates act as though it is settled, and that their side won.

So wait, if I get pregnant again and we find out that something is wrong with the fetus and we want to abort, that won't count as a medical deductible expense. But if the baby was perfectly health and I was a rape victim, it would?

Why do I have the feeling that a woman who has a late term miscarriage and has to have a procedure to remove the dead fetus is going to need all sorts of paperwork to prove the fetus was already dead?

That paperwork would take years and several lawyers to help you get through it correctly. It also would have to be finished and filed before undergoing the procedure.

It depends. Was the baby conceived within the bounds of holy matrimony while in the dark in the missionary position with a tissue over the Jesus figurine by your bedside to prevent him from seeing you express your depraved desires?

It might make a difference is all I'm saying.

So... A woman who miscarried will have to go through fark-all, her birth control is not necessarily covered by her health insurance, but at least her rapist's viagra was free?

Exactly the opposite. A high fertility rate amongst the lower and poorer classes keeps them poor and politically weak. It also creates a large pool of labor, which keeps the cost of employement down.

2011-03-31 09:38:38 AM
wonder how many abortions they have had to pay for out of their own pockets. Nothing but a bunch of lying hypocrites.
