Serious Black: I'm convinced. The Republicans in Congress are from a parallel universe. That's the only explanation for why they're pretending like they can rule the country with an iron fist because they only control one chamber of Congress.

/well, that and having the collective intelligence of a dung beetle

Come now. Have you ever seen a group of dung beetles work together to achieve a common goal? They are infinitely more intelligent than the Congressional GOP.

I read Politico fairly often. If you go through the comment section, there are tons of comments that essentially breaks down into one of the following categories:

1) Ben Smith is a JournOlister!
2) Politico is socialist/communist/liberal propaganda!
3) Politico is biased lamestream media!
4) There Politico goes again, attacking Sarah Palin, why aren't you focusing on Obama's birth certificate?
5) Assorted copy-&-paste jobs about why Obama is really Kenyan.

You'd probably put me in that camp on a regular basis. You know since I'm all boot strapy and shiat. But even I can't find a good reason for this. I'd put this bill on the same level as the President trying to disband congress and suspending the Constitution.

It doesn't help that we had a Democratically-controlled Congress for two years that inexplicably crumbled to Republican demands on every piece of legislation. Why wouldn't they feel that way?

Rent is too damn high: Republicans love the Constitution, they just hate Constitutional government.

It's like Animal Farm. Once no one else can read they can say the constitution is whatever they want it to be.

No YOU'RE a Towel: So does this go before or after "Defund Obama's teleprompter" in stupidity?

At least there's nothing explicitly stated in the Constitution about funding for a teleprompter.

This is jaw dropping, pants dropping, eyeballs popping, stupid.

Because they understood how many times a filibuster and procedural bullshiat was used by Republicans to effectively block everything that they tried to do. Isn't so "inexplicable", really.

Actually filibustered or merely threatened to?

2011-03-30 05:50:52 PM
(During the announcement of the new/old bill, the circling press questioned how this could become "law of the land" if the Senate already rejected H.R.1 and is sure to do so again. Cantor's office put out a statement that read in part, "We are hopeful that this proposal will urge the Senate to act instead of play politics with a shutdown. Funding the government at the levels passed by House Republicans might not be what Senator Reid wants, but surely even he would agree that it's a better alternative than shutting down the government.")
Link (new window)

It'd be pretty funny if Republicans didn't know this before reporters asked about it. But hey, at least they know it now right?

Doesn't matter anymore. It amounts to the same thing.

Just pass HR1 send it to the senate. Shucks pass the same bill each week until the senate creates and passes their own version to hash it out in reconsilitaion. If the senate makes no attempt to pass their version then hang it around the necks of Reid and Durbin.

Repubs really need to learn how to politic

I love this:

Asked if he had an idea of what kind of bill the president would agree to sign, Boehner said, "No. No way. I have no clue."

Followed almost immediately by this:

Off camera, the Boehner's office has confirmed that GOP leaders and the White House have been in discussions

I just don't understand how anyone could vote for this guy.

2011-03-30 06:04:33 PM
Boehner's house is great at passing bills for show that have no chance of becoming law.

they still aren't defending it. They can either agree with the leftists in this case (kiss of death for them) or deflect as much as possible. Our only derper (barrygoldwater) tried to deflect but utterly failed.

This is clearly Unconstitutional.

Wouldn't there be legal ramifications for even attempting this?

I think the Constitution provides that in a case such as this, the Senate Sergeant at Arms is ordered to beat the House
Speaker with the ceremonial mace.

2011-03-30 07:06:19 PM
The hell? They're trying to pass a bill that says "this other bill becomes a law if you don't follow the processes by which a bill becomes a law?"

Really?

Still no takers to defending the GOP? shiat they must have sunk pretty low.

I've had it. Even calling them the GOP or the Republican party is too dignifying to them and their tactics. I say we call them the HLSB (Hypocritical Lying shiat Bag) party. It's the only title befitting of those assholes. Anyone with me?
