It's a record low for Obama, not a record low in general.

When the economy, while growing (watch when the job numbers come out, it is good news) still feels bad because of higher prices on gas and food, and when we are entering into yet another war in the desert, the man in charge is going to pay the price at the polls.

He's done some good stuff, but his base is eroding a bit as he becomes more and more like the guy who preceded him. And even if he becomes Dubya-like, the right will still hate him, so yeah, his numbers are going to go down quicker than Lindsay Lohan on her crack dealer.

I like how 75% of Americans were pro-no-fly zone until there was actually a no-fly zone. Now it's at like 40%.

2011-03-30 12:07:10 PM
And let's remember that this number is before the republicans nominate whatever unelectable moron they decide on.

Think of ratings the debates will get. The RNC will be able to fund campaigns just off the ad revenue they get. Plus MTV might pick them up to show after Teen Mom.

On the subway the other day I happened to pass by a muslin man and brushed the back of my hand against his bag.

Later, I stoned my roommate for dressing indecently. I'm pleading temporary Islamic.

AdolfOliverPanties: He's done some good stuff, but his base is eroding a bit as he becomes more and more like the guy who preceded him.

Um. No.

His "base" is annoyed that he hasn't moved fast enough on our social goals and hasn't punched Jim Inhofe in the face. Unlike Republicans, we criticize him when we feel his actions or inactions merit criticism.

We'll still all vote for him again.

2011-03-30 12:55:18 PM
Quick question - what were the approval ratings of Bill Clinton in March 1995 and Ronald Reagan (Piss Be Upon Him) in March 1983?

2011-03-30 12:55:31 PM
Progressives are pissed. That may not be his base per se, but it is a big part of his constituency and they are polling negatively.

Tax breaks for billionaires, cutting home heating aid for families, capitulating to Republicans at nearly every turn...these things turn off the people who voted for him.

Sure, he'll win again, but the polls aren't surprising.

I just think President Obama is about to pull a President Bartlett. Bartlett's numbers were around this level during his second year. But then someone shot him and his numbers went back ...

Wait a second!

I was against the US enforcing a no-fly zone alone. I'm cool with it now since we have a UN resolution, which means we're not the bad guys telling the world to go fark themselves, we do what we want, that we actually honor a rule of law. That's where I draw the distinction.

Yes. But except for the a small percentage of us who consider Dennis Kuchinch to far right, we're still happier with him that we have been with any other president in 30 years.

If he stopped acting like Bush's Tan and stood up for the things people elected him to do his poll numbers would shoot up just by virtue of Democrats ceasing to be pissed at him.

I see you do this in threads all the time.

Is it a one issue thing with you? I can understand if HCR is VERY important to you. I am glad for the things that Obama has gotten done, but he acquiesces to the GOP too much IMO.

Like I've said, Democrats are weak and Republicans are farking lunatics, so we are farked either way.

I just wish Obama had more backbone sometimes.

I guess even you and your liberal cronies have found the light at the end of love with our beloved president. The intellectuals have been much agitated and now, having gotten the presidency by exploiting the problems they themselves have manufactured, he has done his best to fuel their anxieties about him. Will you and your pack of bleeding heart liberals never learn that expanding welfare roles only accelerate inflation and inevitably hurt most those they purport to help?

2011-03-30 01:52:48 PM
everything is aligning correctly for Hillary to resign and run for President after Obama fails in Libya.

After Americans soured on Iraq and Afghanistan for not having a mission, what made Obama think he could go into Libya without an achievable mission?

Repeatedly asking Gaddafi to leave is not a strategy and nothing we're doing is seriously imperiling his grip on power. You have to offer incentives for someone like that to leave and when he gains 200km in a day due to the US refusing to provide air cover to the rebels, then he has no incentive to leave.

Essentially the Gaddafi strategy involves fighting a guerrilla war and making his forces impossible to hit from the air.

So what's Obama gonna do now?

Anything short of Gaddafi leaving is a failure and will reflect badly on Obama's 2012 hopes.

2011-03-30 01:52:50 PM

AdolfOliverPanties: Is it a one issue thing with you?

No, that was the first example I could think of.

Look, I liked Clinton. I think he did an excellent job.

But, he failed at health care, caved in on NAFTA, and his dick is one of the main reasons we got W, because people wanted to "restore honor", and the frat boy coke head managed to convince stupid people that he was more honorable than the cheating husband.

In 20 years, if you compare the accomplishments of Clinton and the accomplishments of Obama, I think you'll find that Obama was more successful. I *know* he's starting from more of a disadvantage.

Everyone wants war porn, no one wants to pay for it.

They should just downsize the military by around 80% and buy airtime on every TV station to run a commercial-free showing of Platoon once a week for ten years, it would be way more fiscally and socially responsible.

2011-03-30 01:56:47 PM
Easy go, easy come. Numbers are artificially depressed due to recent non-stellar news in Libya. People will forget Libya even exists within a month or so, and things will be roughly back to normal.
