Okay, this is getting to be too many Vegas threads now.

YouPeopleAreCrazy: We had a similar situation long ago. Mid 80's, Lousyana. Neighbor lady in the apt complex, who we had seen around...Sunday afternoon, begged us to watch her two kids, age around 7 & 9. "It's only for a couple of hours. I'll be right back"

Our kids were 2-ish at the time.

We're feeding them, putting them on the school bus, washing sheets cause the 7 year old peed in the bed...

2 days later, mom shows up. She blew it off like it was our duty as neighbors to help her out.

/I wonder what strip club the girls work at...

Dude... By the first evening, you should have called the cops.

JWF85: Dude... By the first evening, you should have called the cop

Probably. But I think our thought process at the time was "they're better off here than with CPS."

But yeah, looking back...Mom was an ass, and the kids are probably screwed up beyond help.

/like I said...I wonder what club they're dancing in

UsikFark: jafiwam: But hey, free child!

Dude, do you know the street value of a child?

There is a larger potential for a profit margin if you part them out. As a single unit they may bring a decent market value, but the individual sections of the child can easily double or triple that return.

Totally not black. A black woman would have dropped off four kids.

In fairness, I'm not even sure how I would honestly react in that situation. Even if it's the logical thing, CPS would probably feel like an overreaction.

I don't always support mandatory sterilization, but when I do, it's for this b*tch.

I would have done the same thing. Kept them, then ratted mom out later. Otherwise I'd never stop looking for those kids to bring home and let them watch TV at my house.

/I don't how I ended up with 55 dogs.
//Not really

I would say 24 hours, tops. Beyond that, I would seriously be considering that the family had died in a car accident or something, and there needs to be next of kin information in the system.

Oh, and your "Word of the Gord"'s remarks on this situation: (mother decided to leave her kids in the video game rental place all freaking day as a babysitter) (clicky pops):
Don't they teach "Hey! Don't abandon your children!" in parenting school anymore?

She's really not a smart person is she...

It's not really an ironic topic, so no.

That being said, the Florida tag almost always trumps other tags when the article is Florida-related.

I had a similar situation with a former neighbor of mine. My son was 5-years old at the time, as was her daughter. She also had an 8-year old son. She knew I babysat from time to time so she asked me if I would watch her children until around midnight so she could go clubbing with a friend.

She didn't show up until three days later, drunk off her ass. Her daughter was practically hysterical because she thought something bad had happened to mommy and she would never see her again. Her son was a bit more stoic about mom's disappearance, but I found out later that she'd done this before when she lived elsewhere.

After she sobered up we had a long talk and I made it clear to her that, 1)I would never babysit again for her ever again, and 2)If I ever heard of her doing this to her kids again, I would report her to CPS.

The last contact I had with her was some years ago. She was in her mid-30s then & was having an affair with a 15-year old boy, one of her son's classmates.

Wouldn't have a choice - wife is a mandatory reporter.

/Probably call them anyway.

Wow, from this threads anecdotal showing this isn't that uncommon a thing. As a single dad I can't even imagine the thought process that goes into this.

My daughter is almost 16 so I'm getting to the stage where she can stay home by herself for a few hours if I wish to go have a few with friends but I've been her sole caregiver since she was 1 and, yeah that means I didn't get out alot over those years. It's part of the job.

Hell I usually felt guilty dumping her off on my mom and dad for a day or weekend on the rare occasion I did so to go do adult stuff. I can't imagine leaving her with a stranger under uncertain circumstances.

Acharne untaken_name: Quantum Apostrophe: Thank god she wasn't some kind of childless failure, eh jst3p? Good solid citizen, getting sperm spewed up her uterus, like countless animals can do instinctively, is a sure sign of a quality human.

Whoa, dude...when you make someone like ME think "man, that guy's bitter", you may want to re-evaluate your posts. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, I'm just offering unsolicited advice.

I'm going to have to go ahead and second that.

Clearly you guys weren't in that thread the other night where jst3p was posting such reasonable, not-at-all condescending statements along the lines that ANYBODY who doesn't have or want to have children, REGARDLESS of the reason, is abnormal, leads an empty and pointless life, blah blah blah and they should basically kill themselves since they're such a selfish and pathetic human being. So yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with Quantum Apostrophe on this one.

Willis told the man who answered the door that her car A/C needed repair and asked him to watch her boy, and the man agreed.

WTF? I mean, not just the reason, but he AGREED? Serious: WTF?

The rest of your comment I agree with, mother in TFA is CRAAAZY. But if you don't mind me saying, you sound a little overprotective. Perhaps you worry too much?

but I've been her sole caregiver since she was 1

Well I guess that does explain things. At 16 I was the one going out for a few with friends whilst my folks stayed home. But I guess things were different in the UK.

I appreciate the context! I cannot have kids either by choice. However, I'll have no issues adopting or step parenting.

I thought in Florida it's a trick answer. You put the kid in your trunk and borrow a shovel from a neighbor, then report to the police and media that you left her with an illegal immigrant?

A Stranger's house seems like [Florida] mother of the year. How's her facebook page?

The Invisible Sky Wizard: There's no way in hell I'd ever let some stranger's kid into my house. Too much of a liability. I wouldn't even have opened the door for the crazy biatch and her spawn when they came knocking.

CrazyEyes: "Can you watch my kid while I go have my car's A/C fixed?"

Normalguyansweringdoor: "Uh, yeah." *immediately call child and family services*

/How I would do it.

So...it wouldn't have been out of place IN THAT THREAD, then. He hadn't even posted in this one. So...I'm going to have to stick with my first answer.

Totally not black. A black woman would have dropped off four kids.

Really, cause the aforementioned demographic (drug using african american mothers) I've seen just get the drugs out and do them right in front of the children. At best they might sit the kids in front of the TV and go lock their bedroom door if they're freebasing shiate.

This will all be fixed if we legalize weed right?

No, but escaping reality to avoid thinking about all this will be much easier.

I saw that movie and I didn't even know that.
I guess I couldn't pay attention much after laughing so hard after the Statue of Liberty's head came flying off and landed by them and it was only about eight feet long.
