I dispise when the government tries to horn in on a bit of fun between father and son.

He has a helicopter company, a hotel, sends his kid to boarding school, and has a tv show and he's not rich? Hey subby, you want to adopt me?

Milton Jones, 46, said the Canberra-based Civil Aviation Authority was wasting its money. "It's a witch-hunt."

HA HA HA!

That's what my dad would have said. That old son of biatch would dismiss people his didn't want to talk to. I remember him shoo-ing away the police when they came up to talk to him.

Awesome article.

apparently my definition of 'rich' does not match subby's.

2011-03-28 11:22:12 PM
so... guy owns a hotel and helicopter tour/charter business, and was the subject of a reality tv show.

really want to know the subby's definition of 'rich', because I bet I would be happy to live in the equivalent of 'impoverished' in his world

More interestingly, there's a law in Australia that requires hoteliers to record the names of anyone buying more than $100 worth of booze.

This world is beginning to suck.

Why is not being rich a bonus?

tuffsnake: Why is not being rich a bonus?

i think it would have meant that the dad actually sacrificed to pull this together for his kid to have fun; being rich means not having to make the same kind of sacrifices poor people make. life is a lot easier. or put another way, if you're poor, it's a once in a lifetime thing; but if you're rich, it's just Tuesday.

since subby is a liar, and the dude is rich, it's just Tuesday.

This kind of shiat jumped the shark ages ago.

But is ok to let your teenage daughter solo the world in a sailboat.

Glad we cleared that up.

owns the 700sq km Coolibah station on the Victoria River

Uhh

home from boarding school.

Umm, subby?

who also owns the Albatross helicopter company and the Top Springs Hotel

You know what, subby? Fark you. You obviously have your shiat so well off that this guy doesn't seem rich to you. Go fark yourself.

Not rich. Honestly, what in the fark? HE OWNS A HELICOPTER, A HOTEL, AND SEVEN HUNDRED SQUARE KILOMETERS OF LAND.

tuffsnake: Why is not being rich a bonus?

Because I guess this would just be another day in Australia for a wealthy asshole dad and his asshole son. But being poor, having a helicopter to tow your kid behind on his waterski means you...aren't not poor. Or something.

Maybe he walks uphill to his prep school.

If my Dad had towed me on a waterski behind his helicopter, maybe I wouldn't have killed him and Mom so horribly. Just sayin'.

Wait a minute, I think I just figured out Subby's retardation: He thinks that "rich" means classical-only music, cuban cigars for breakfast, throwing caviar at the proletariat, writing long-winded letters to 'important' people, and shiatting on a golden toilet.

/WHAT THE F*CK, SUBBY?

I watched this series, well, I watched a couple of episodes, and the guy is seriously rich. I reckon he would own several tens of millions in terms of assets. That said, the guy is very down to earth and not of the caviar-snacking / Bentley driving ilk.

On another note, the way those cowboy chopper pilots fly is really awesome and scary. They have mad skillz.

failing to record personal details of customers buying more than $100 worth of takeaway grog

$100? Christ that's just a bar tab . . . from LUNCH no less. Hang around if you want to see some epic (by these standards) "takeaway" or what ever you want to call it.

Where's all that bravado from Aussies gone? Jeeze, you think you know some folks . . .

Oh and the helicopter? A little dumb but not worth all the fuss and certainly not worth the court time. Can't really skewer them as I haven't seen the footage.

Reads like they just want to hang him on something, any thing.

As said, that was thrown out.

It was introduced in the first place because people would be driving from Dry communities, stocking up the car full of beer/spirits then driving back into the dry towns. It was only for remote pubs near the dry (Aboriginal) communities.

They some how thought that taking their names would stop it from happening...

Look if you can find me ONE death attributed to helicopter waterskiing, then I'll grant you it MIGHT be dangerous. But you can't.

Why do you hate freedom?

I'm glad there are still parents like this. Kids these days are such pathetic pansies I can't stand it.

CSB:

My daughter comes up to the other day and says "Dad, I kinda got in some trouble at school and you have to sign the note." She hands me the note. It was from the "intervention center" at the school. She had sent a text message to a friend, and called another girl a retard. The poor retard went to the intervention center. The form contained things like "What can I do next time to prevent this?" and "Should I apologize for this incident?" All very good stuff for fifth graders to worry about.

I signed the paper. She says "Am I in trouble?"

I said "I don't care if you called her a retard. But you're in trouble for texting at school."

She's grounded and can't take her phone to school any more. And she seems happy about it.

If there were an accident, sure, go ahead and prosecute him, but punishing someone over what could have happened instead of what actually happened is stupid

Towing a boat with a helicopter (new window), and fouling it up... badly.

The problem with towing a load horizontally is that the whole helicopter, and the rotor, can tilt forward so much that too much thrust is vectored backwards, it can't make enough vertical lift and that's all she wrote. Attempting to apply more thrust to recover will only increase the angle and make it fall faster.

To be fair, there's a lot being lost in translation here. 700sq km isn't really all that large for an Australian cattle station (the largest is Anna Creek Station, which is 34,000 sq km). Boarding school is also pretty standard for country kids (it's heavily subsidised by the government if the parents can't afford it). A "hotel" really means "a country pub/backpackers motel" (we're not talking city-style mutli-storey hotel). And mustering is usually done by helicopter, so owning a helicopter is sort of similar to an American rancher owning a bunch of horses.

However, this particular guy is also pretty rich.

This brought me back to my dad who once tied a bike behind our station wagon and towed my 17 & 18 year old cousins down the highway. Fun times.

I Fancy Darcy: This brought me back to my dad who once tied a bike behind our station wagon and towed my 17 & 18 year old cousins down the highway. Fun times.

That reminds me of the time when my wife and I were having a picnic and these ruffians started attacking us out of nowhere. We took off in our station wagon only to find out later that I had inadvertently ripped off the hand of one of the assailants. It was war from that point on. They even killed my wife and child as well as a cop buddy of mine...the bastards. I got my revenge in the end, though. Then I got to meet Tina Turner, which was pretty cool, except she was a real biatch.

Well, he does live in Australia, so that kinda knocks it down a few notches.
