What person in their right mind would jump on board the trainwreck that is the New York Mets AND let the Wilpons maintain control AND not get a piece of SNY? The guys aren't just fools, they're not even self-aware of it.

Glad they're striking out so far. It's a shame cause Citi Field is a nice place to go watch a decent baseball game, but too far to schlep for the inevitable crashing and burning of the 2011 Mets.

It's a great place to go if you're a fan of the away team.

...too far? It's where Shea was. The Mets did fine there when they were winning.

/OMG! Winning games puts fans in the seats! Amazing!

My hope is that the Mets' price tag drops far enough that the Dolans jump at it. That way, they can leave the Yankees alone.

Oh please no. Oh please freaking hell motherfarking no. Just...no.

The Mets actually do have a lot of value so long as the Wilpons are willing to give up enough/all of their share. Especially if the price is down.

As for Citi Field, I love that place. Such an improvement.

You have to get the impression that the Mets finances are a real horror story away from the public eye. In theory the Mets should be the second or third most valuable baseball team in the world. The Wilpon's are causing it to bleed money.

The Mets should be making more money but they aren't because the Wilpons are magic devils. That's just a huge pile of facts right there.

/I mean, the Wilpons probably ARE magic devils. But there's more to the finances of a baseball team than that.

Let Cuban buy the team. For the lulz.

Both Steinbrenner kids are probably laughing their arses off at the Wilpons - George was smart enough to groom Hal for running the Yankees properly, and gave Hank the job of being the loose cannon mouth. Not to mention have real business people like Levene in place to do things like bring YES along to the point where the Yankees probably make their payroll from YES alone!

Its truly amazing that someone can LOSE money having a MLB franchise in NY....

Mmm. Anyway, the Yankees are so the best. They should have their own thread on FARK.com.

The yankees, as an organization, lose money. YES prints it, but the team shows a loss thanks to that giant payroll. And probably a few other accounting tricks.

FreakinB: Such an improvement.

Well, yeah. Shea was an utter craphole. The only worse stadiums I can think of (among those in use over the past 20 years or so) were the Vet and Olympic Stadium. The Trop is an awful mausoleum, too.
