It could be a Ford Fairlane sequel.

I'm willing to cut a lot of slack for Renny Harlin, but I just can't do it here.

Haters gonna hate but I farking love Entourage. I think a lot of the hatred for the show amongst the internet crowd is nothing but jealousy because people are out there living lives a lot cooler than theirs.

Oh and did I mention...

Who wants to watch a fun, popular show with cool toys and hot chicks?

I'd much rather be watching something like Fringe, Chuck, or Dr. Who, where my viewership is absolutely needed. If a show doesn't require an online campaign to save it from cancellation, it's obviously not worth my time.

I think the hate comes from a lot of D-list actors, and that guy from PCU that could be called B-list, all of the sudden becoming popular

You can blame Pretty in Pink for Dice.

Jeremy Piven is excellent in his role as is evidenced by his 3 Emmys and Golden Globe. Not sure what you mean about "becoming popular" or why that would piss people off to begin with. Besides, with the exception of Piven, most of the other actors are far from popular.

No, I'm pretty sure the hate comes from jealousy.

Awesome post. I will also fess up to enjoying Entourage-- not everything has to be high art. It is a damn fun series. And I'm going to try and memorize the bolded sentence for use as hipster repellant at parties and in public.

Entourage = Sex & the City for guys

:-/

If it makes everything all right again, I would support a Turner & Hooch sequel AND a concluding act for the Clint Eastwood and Clyde the Orangutan trilogy that began with Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can!

Entourage is stupid fun...who cares. It's about a guy that gets a gig and shares his good fortune with his buds.

Sure, it's taken some odd turns here and there (the whole Sasha Grey thing last season was lame) but meh...it's watchable.

2011-03-26 02:49:51 PM
I started watching Entourage on WGN this year because I'm too cheap to have cable. You can totally tell when the swearing is dubbed; it's pretty funny.

Anyways, it is the only show on TV right now that is upbeat most of the time. Yeah, there are occasional problems, but for the most part things swing their way.

I can't think of any other shows that are as "positive" as this one. Everything else is vampires killing people, cops dealing with rapists and murders, lawyers being jagoffs, doctors and their bullshiat crises, families and their problems. Lots of blood and misery all around. I'd rather watch Entourage than most of other shows.

Caveat: I started watching in the middle of a later season, where they (Drama excepted) were less douchey. I caught the first episode and had I seen that one first, I would have said fark these douchebags. So I guess it cuts both ways.

1) I like "Entourage", but fully realize that it's worth watching because of Drama and Ari. Vince is beyond annoying.

2) Fact: Bringing on Sasha Grey was the definite "jump the shark" moment.

My girlfriend loves Sex in the City, and when I mentioned that that show was just a cruel parody of the lives of women as imagined by gay male writers, she wondered why they didn't just do a gay male version of SITC. Then we realized that it had been done in Entourage.

Not just the characters, but the actual performers are horrible as well. I hope to never see anyone on that show again in anything.

2011-03-26 03:34:55 PM
I also enjoy Entourage. Hot chicks, occassional hilarity, drinking and drug use. Yeah I can see how people who never leave the house hate the show.

Like Rubber Biscuit said, it's "Sex and the City" for men. Guys watch it because they like to think they're total cool dudes like the ones in the show or they wish they were. Lifestyle fantasizing.

The "internet crowd"...everyone is on the internet these days. It's not 15 years ago.

2011-03-26 03:54:31 PM
Entourage is Twilight for guys. There is NO farkING CONFLICT OF ANY KIND. Seriously. It's just constant asslicking. If there is any kind of conflict it's resolved in the next boring 3 minutes. They don't drive fast enough in their Hummer to get to the shoe store for some limited edition "kicks" which are then hand delivered by a girl who gives Vince a BJ too? Here's my imitation of Entourage.

Vince- I don't know, I can't decide if I like blondie or the redhead.

Turtle- Yo, Vin, just do 'em both!

I don't believe so. I think it stems from the fact that most of the characters look and act like douchebags. If they were cool guys who treated women well and worried about real things in the world, I don't think anyone would have a problem with it.

Almost everything I watch is people living lives cooler than mine. My issue with the show is things get dull after a while if everything the characters do is cool, their lives are awesome and any bit of adversity is cleared up quickly.

Yeah, I enjoyed it the first couple seasons of that, but after a while it just got boring.

Will Vince take the role? It might ruin his career if he does, but might stall his career if he doesn't! OMG, what to do? Hey, Vince decided to take the role and it is the biggest movie ever! Let's go to Vegas and celebrate!

Maybe this is why I like it so much. I like that Vince is so relentlessly positive. Wasn't too thrilled with him being on drugs but I guess they're going for reality. So many young actors go through that.

SATC for guys? Maybe. But I'm a woman and I like it. If I had a choice between the two I'd probably watch Entourage. It just makes me laugh more. (not a fan of the way Ari's wife is written though - Sloane if good)

I would agree that most of the characters on the show are douchebags, but I actually find them funny in that, "HA, you suck" type of way.

But in real life they mostly seem like they'd be boring. Except for Jeremy Piven. I actually worked with him on Old School and he was a really cool guy. Very....interesting.

2011-03-26 08:32:51 PM
I used to enjoy him on "Crime Story". That show was ahead of its time.

pjlawrence81: I'll catch the reruns on late-night TV sometimes, it has it's moments. But the guy that plays Vince has got to be the worst gotdamn actor on TV.

Yeah you are right about that guy that plays Vince. I personally love the show, the dynamic between Drama and Turtle makes the show for me.

2011-03-26 09:18:13 PM
Individually, I hate every damn one of those actors (except Piven). But as an ensemble, their douchebaggery just works so well. Plus the eye candy is always a plus.

I think the hate for Entourage is because people are watching the watered down version on basic cable. But I will concede that the excessive hate for Turtle is entirely justified. That guy is a waste of scrotum juice. I just want to punch him in the face, and seeing him get to hug up on Tony Soprano's daughter makes it that much more violent... and that scrawny little shiat Vince is a useless prop that needs to be put through a woodchipper.

Hmmm, maybe there is something to the Entourage hate...

/eh, I still like the show. Let's hug it out.

Tax Boy: Entourage = Sex & the City for guys

Pretty much.

I watched the first couple of seasons. It was entertaining. I haven't been into it the past few years though.

2011-03-27 01:02:30 AM
I use to love Entourage; made sure I didn't miss an episode, etc. However, no matter how great Jeremy Piven is - and he is great as Ari Gold - you can only watch the frat-boys-with-money motif for so long before it gets boring. And I've been pretty bored with the show for several years now.

Adding Andrew Dice Clay has killed it for me.
