She was an outspoken proponent for gay rights and AIDS victims. In a way she's the ideal person for them to protest. As I said in another thread, I think she would be pleased to have them protest her funeral.

I'll say it again. WBC should be welcomed, given front row seats; honored by the military, gay, news, religious, and entertainment communities for their contributions to drawing attention to their sacrifices, plights, programming, commonalities of faith and good works, and their outstanding elder statesmen and women (respectively); and offered food, lodging, entertainment, and most especially, all the sex (gay or otherwise) they can handle (and lots of games for the kiddies).

I imagine this would have to be done at most a half dozen times before they're all either dead of apoplexy or converted to real people.

People can fight what they expect, and if you fight them on their own terms, they can win, but if you don't fight them where they expect and in a way they can hardly imagine, then they're powerless.

And Sarcastica is right on the money: They honestly could care less about gay/straight/soldier...whoever. They are a church solely for the tax exemptions it provides. The Phelps family are 90% lawyers, all schooled well in first ammendment law. They execute these protests with military precision, and could tell you within the millimeter where the public property and private property boundries are when they show up. They WANT to find any excuse whatsoever to sue, since they are lazy, shiftless assholes who rely soley on lawsuits as their income stream. Hell...Shirley Phelps has all but said those exact words.

That is this families way of making money: Inciting violence on themselves so they can choke up the court system in lieu of getting real jobs.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn Phelps holds weekly gay raves in the basement of his church.

That would be a very Christian thing to do. which means it would never happen in the gay community. I only base that on what happened during Prop 8, and the desecration of churches and disrespect towards church members by gays angry at how the vote went. Perhaps things have changed; or those were only a very very vocal minority.
