Because they have such a dedicated fanbase, that they know they can get away with it.

I'm as hardcore a fan as anyone, and I REFUSE to buy the DVDs for this reason. I'll rewatch them in HD off off my DVR, thanks.

The coolest animated show on TV since Speed Racer.

Gotta say, this was a strong season with some wild character development for the boys and Sampson. My favorite TV show bar none. The challenge will be to take The Monarch in a new direction, give us some more henchman 21, and maybe start a new villain arc.

I wasn't paying attention, I didn't see the "sponsored link" written on it, so that's my fault. And if there's going to be advertising (and of course there's going to be advertising) at least it's for something I like.

There was a gap between season 4 part 1 and season 4 part 2 and they didn't want to call it season 5 because it was more of continuation of season 4 then a whole new season but it was a whole new season

I really hope they do more with Gary. Hell, i'd say they've already done enough with him since I'm calling him Gary and not 21, but you know what I mean. He's easily in the top 3 awesome characters in that show, I'm really excited to see what they do next season.

4.2 made up for the lack of funny in 4.1, but nothing beats season 3.

/still can't believe they dropped the whole Orb story line.

// Pleaseohpleaseohplease make a prequel

/// either rusty as a kid and the original team venture... or maybe the adventures of Mark Twain and Conl. Venture fighting Nikola Tesla and the Avon Lady would also be a better prequel... a pre-prequel.

Yes, it's DVD release Tuesday, the happiest day of the week!

Spring is a slow period for DVD releases, so I started buying stuff on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca. The delivery time for Amazon.ca is great but things I order from Amazon.com seem to be left in front of my door, where any joker can steal them. The MST 3000 set I received most recently was in an open bubble bag and the inner plastic shrink rap was open. I suspect tampering.

Whoever did either decided they didn't want MST 3000 or else they watched them and put them back in front of my door before I was aware they were missing.

But, to stay on topic, I love that show and have everything so far. I'll try to get the new half-season today.

I hate this rip-off trick of splitting seasons. It's just a way to charge a lot more for the same material. They've done more of this lately, pushing the profit envelope on DVDs while waiting for them to die. And there's no real reason they should, so it may take some time.

Venture Brothers is great though.

I love camp, kitsch, and comedy, not to mention parody, satire and pastiche. VB has it all with supervillains. That's what I wanted to be when I grew up, by the way. They have the coolest lares, the coolest toys, the best lines and they are indestructible.

You can blow them up over and over again like cartoon cats and they'll come right back with another multi-billion dollar scheme. That's one hell of a trust fund the average super-villain must have.

It makes it easy to believe that the collective net worth of the world's billionaires is $4.7 trillion. I expect Evil Billionaires have a lot more stashed away that the official figures don't count.

It must be coming to an end, though. Doctor Girlfriend is now Mrs. Doctor Girlfriend and the clones are being allowed to grow up without being killed every time they turn around.

But those ten B-movies I ordered from Amazon should tide me over for a week or two.

Off the top of my head I have some Riff Trax of movies I've already seen, some Roger Corman classic crap including The Attack of the Crab Monsters, and if IIRC, I finally tagged Dark Star on DVD--it wasn't available the last time I special-ordered it. There's also a couple of real great stinkers that I've wanted for years.

I have most of the standard issue Horror, Fantasy and SF classics from the Golden Age of Bad Movies several times over, but there are still a number of glorious B&W and half-arsed dumb movies for me to collect.

I love me some campy kitschy classics, the more solemn the better.

I only have about six Bluray discs at the moment but they include Dark City, The Forbidden Planet, Humanoids by Roger Corman, and a boxed set of Bladerunner with about four different cuts.

But tonight belongs to the Venture Brothers. I don't expect my movies to arrive earlier than tomorrow, and it might take a couple of days or more. God willing they'll drop them off at the Post Office. I don't know why they don't drop them off at the nearest post office. I guess it is probably in a different zip.

2011-03-22 01:28:47 PM
I'm kind of done with 21 though. I mean, he should remain a character, but I don't think I need a 21-centered episode for a while.

The Monarch needs a new direction.

and Phantom Limb and Underbheit have got to get a bit more dignity. Palling around with Impossible ? he's a dork ! (particularly now that he's not voiced by Colbert)

Strolpol: I think the bigger news here is that they just announced that they're making two more seasons of the show, not that the DVD set is out today.

And a 60-90 minute special! God, I'm so excited.

This was such a great season. Hank's noir episode and the finale are two of the best episodes ever. And even though it won't be quite as funny, I can't wait to hear the uncensored explanations of what a "Rusty Venture" is.

Happens in anime, too. You can get the "current" (delayed by a year or more from the Japanese release) volume when it releases, or wait and get the whole box set for much cheaper later. People buy the volumes when release and then complain how much it costs (even though it still costs 3-4x less than the folks in Japan are paying).

Patience has it's advantages. I salute you.

I have never laughed as hard as I did when they had to describe something gross.

Dr. Orpheus: We must draw him out. Draw him from Hell with Hell. Quickly! What is the worst thing that's ever happened to you?
Jefferson Twilight: Um...I saw my mom raped by blackulas. I was 10. She called my name. I just stood there.
Dr. Orpheus: Um, wow. Wait, I can hear him. More ugliness?
Master Billy Quizboy: Once I saw two homeless guys giving each other oral sex.
Dr. Orpheus: Yes, he's closer! More like that.
The Alchemist: Okay, this is really gross. Once I was out of toilet paper, so I used cotton balls. So, you know, I'm wiping, and I think my finger kinda poked through the cotton. So I-and do not ask me why-I smell my finger to check.
Jefferson Twilight: Gross. I see where this is going.
Dr. Orpheus: Quickly, Al, he's so close!
The Alchemist: Okay, I bring it up to smell it, right. But somehow the cotton got stuck to my fingers, so when I smell my fingers, the cotton's getting stuck to my razor stubble. So then I have this shiat-cotton all over my face!

Al has got to be one of my favorite characters

Series creator Jackson Publick just announced that CN has greenlit two more seasons -- plus a special feature-length episode.

There's some nifty Venture Bros merchandise coming this year, too..!

Knara, grinding_journalist

VB
season 4 had a long mid-season hiatus, during which the season finale was heavily re-tooled. So the dual releases sort-of reflect its broadcast situation.

/but yeah; it still 'feels' like a cash-grab -_-

MONARCH: So we had a drunken threesome, join the farcking club! We're villains you crybaby! We swing! I watched my wife farck Manta Clause and then make him breakfast!

HENCHMAN 21: Is that true?

DR. MRS. THE MONARCH: Eggs and buttered toast.

And just to keep things going...
