Fine 'em all. Nobody is above the law.

2011-03-21 01:43:32 PM
What's that? A "public safety" issue that will not generate revenue is being ignored, since it will actually COST money to implement?

I'm. Shocked.

I view those neighborhood stop signs as purely suggestive.

2011-03-21 01:46:38 PM
And those neighbors will be punished/fined/sued for conducting "safety study" without proper documentation/licenses/etc. Sounds familiar...

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

2011-03-21 01:47:12 PM
I am not at all surprised at the sheriff's vehicle. Cops often think themselves above the laws they will brutally and sneeringly enforce with condescending attitudes.

2011-03-21 01:47:15 PM
They were proposing putting speed bumps in my neighborhood about 5 years ago. I couldn't make the meeting, but apparently people came close to coming to blows over it. Apparently in neighborhoods that have speed bumps that nitwits will drive on lawns to go around the speed bump.

I think it has been a few years since we've had a brick mailbox knocked over. Amazingly people somehow are able to drive off after that. A neighbor had someone go across his lawn and over a 5 foot retaining wall in a white Civic and drive off (minus enough parts from the car to identify it as a white Civic). If it gets too bad during holidays I just park some cars out in the street and make people go around them.

That video clearly shows a complete lack of respect for common decency in this country. Simply appalling.

"In January, a northbound driver on Lockwood Ridge lost control, knocked down a "4-way stop ahead" sign facing southbound traffic, bashed his home's chain link fence, hit a Florida Power & Light pole and left undetected, McParland said."

I wouldn't exactly say the driver was undetected......

HA! I'm usually drunk. A complete stop is a very simple way to remain undetected.

I always drive at 5 mph below the speed limit just to be extra safe.

Golldurnit, when we do it, it is not illegal.

srsy, last time I came to a complete stop turning right, it nearly caused an accident behind me and the pickup truck chased me for 1/2 mile

safety, it is what is for ridicule

What a bizarre coincidence! I accidentally ran that stop sign several times as a teenager. It's in a really awkward place. I'll bet adding flashing LED lights to the sign or a roundabout would help. There are very few sidewalks in that area which is very nerve racking since a lot of kids tend to bicycle to two different schools nearby. They really need to improve the whole neighborhood by making it walkable.

Lacrosse balls thrown from a d-pole have quite a bit of range...and they bounce away quickly.

Actually it's a good way to get caught. When I'm drunk I try to drive like everyone else -- a bit over the limit, a little loose with the traffic laws. Perfect adherence to the law just makes you look ... well, like a drunk trying to fly under the radar.

Driver: So? My Dad does it all the time.

P: Why did you stop here, we don't have a stop sign this time?

At my neighborhood four-way stop I always slow enough to make sure no cars are coming, then check to make sure the cop isn't hiding out, and then roll right on through. Suck it, law-abiders.

I'm sorry, on his website & video he says his infant can't play outside because some cars roll through a nearby stop sign. Unless his infant is playing in the middle of the road I don't see how that's a related issue.

OMG!!!! That car turned at the intersection!!! DID YOU SEE THAT! MY FAMILY WILL DIE!!!!

I'm certainly not justifying ppl that should be getting ticket there, but he's making a stink out nothing.

2011-03-21 02:00:41 PM
Honestly, the buses should be marked on it. The rest, it looks like they sloed for the intersection, no one else was there and then picked up. From the looooooong view camera angle, it looked to me like they did almost completely stop and then went through.

Didn't watch all of them, but I didn't see anything truly ZOMG there...

What will happen is they will take out two of the 4-way stop out and make that a normal intersection. Problem solved.

if it's 3AM and there is no one on the road, it doesn't matter, you're getting pulled over.

especially if you're black.

There's "rolling stops," which I sometimes do, and then there's "cruising right through," which I never do. Gotta love the bureaucracy though.

I watched one of the videos for about 3 seconds. The 4-way looks to be a good 50 yards from his driveway. Either that or he's got one hell of a crappy camera. What's his problem?

Too many stupid drivers out there not to.

Hint: Maybe the stop sign shouldn't be there at all. Since the people pictured would probably try to drive left around a roundabout, that pretty much leaves replacing all the damn 4-way stops with staggered 2-way stops, or giving up on the idea of speed control in the street altogether, since you were a part of the population that decided to completely fark up your traffic grid over the years.

If you had some asshole kid throwing rocks at your windows and didn't want to be arrested for waving a gun at an 8-year-old no matter how much he deserved it, would you rather a deputy stop at all 40 stop signs in the mile around your house, or blow a few safe ones?

I do that, too. Pisses 'em off good. Especially if they have been tailgating.

I had one go across my lawn and hit a tree. Woke up in the morning to find tire tracks in the lawn, a gouge in the tree - and the guy's license plate.

Damn right. Gas is $3.50 a gallon, I think of rolling stop signs as my way of saving gas. Sure, it's a selfless act, but that's just the way I roll.

There is a red light intersection on my way home. During the day I have no problems following all redlights and stop signs.

At around 11pm there is hardly anyone on either of the two roads. You can see both ways down the roads for a good mile, specially at night with people's headlights in the distance.

The light is on a timer and take a solid 3-4 minutes to change (small road crossing a 4 lane). I run that biatch every time at night.

If the stop sign is at an intersection that no one is really ever at and you can see both ways fairly easily, then it sounds like there doesn't need to be a stop sign there at all.

well duhh... How can they use your street as a short cut alternative to the main road if they have to stop. If they wanted to stop, they would use the main road.

2011-03-21 02:22:13 PM
The Goog says the stop signs on the more major road look pretty damn unwarranted. (clickypop)

Which would probably be why people just go right the hell through it.

I avoid going to shopping centers, and anywhere else, that has speed bumps. I might not be the only one.

Some of the "humps" are tolerable if you're not going too fast, I can live with that.
