I think what we should all take away from this story is that poor people could take care of themselves if we'd just repeal those pesky child labor laws.

FTFA: "When he decided to start this, I laughed. I mean, I laughed at him. I was standing right here," said Megan Shilling.

Great show of support, Mom.

Mom: "Bwahahahahaha!"

it's about time parents stop encouraging their precious snowflakes, having them believe they can do or be whatever they want.

What's wrong with this kid? He should have taken the money and bought those kids some iPod Shuffles from Best Buy.

This is the first one of these stories where it sounds like the kid actually deserves the credit. Had the initiative to go and do something themselves and its not just mom and dad looking for spotlight for their snowflake.

Kudos to the kid's school for not getting all uptight about it. These things often start out well enough but then switch from "bring your old but still useful stuff so that someone less fortunate can make use of it" to "must be new, in a box, checks made out to 'CASH' would be preferred."

Yeah it was dropped in 1890 along with the rest of the burghs, but put back in 1911. Those silly Pittsburghers.

If they would cut down all those shoes hanging from power lines in Philly they would have enough to shoe every kid in the tri-state area...

Hopefully they raise enough cash for shipping so the effort is not wasted and that the shoes get to the kids that need them.
