Doesn't Uncle Sam already have enough veterans living under bridges!?

fta It's appallingly stupid, for there's little doubt that the fakes will be unmasked. The net result of that will be the diminution, not the enhancement, of American credibility.

You're making a mighty big assumption there, Mr Jarvis

Lot of words to say the Government is stupid. If they were smart they would be Bill Gates, instead they're Hilary Clinton. QED.

Military's 'sock puppet' software creates fake online identities to spread pro-American propaganda

Can't they just rip-off Israel's Tatsuma software? No point in re-inventing the wheel.

This article made me smile...with a full set of awesomely straight American troll teeth.

America's so great I haven't had a job in years and I'm still fat.

Wouldn´t sending an army of really good trolls to get outed help to prevent them from really knowing who their friends were on online communications.

I forget who said it, but I seem to remember some quote from some one coming from the Eastern Bloc to the west saying that he wanted to live in a land where even the poor people where fat.

Historically speaking, that is a very rare thing and would probably be considered some kind of miracle by most of the humans who have lived on this earth (and many that are alive right now).

This is more pro-Obama bullshiat from the socialist-lets-all-be-friends media. There's a reason we torture and support dictators, and some people don't have the stones to accept that.

The problem this program is that when the people who oppose the astroturfing react they do so in such a way so as to use the astroturfers' posts as a launching platform to get their point across. And this is a real problem when the battle is being waged between paid employees and people who are impassioned with the position they hold.

The trolls are, at best, able to score points, possibly derail a few discussions, and may even win a few battles - but the war will be lost.

Wait, we torture the dictators and then we support them? We feel guilty about it or something?

Some people actually understand the term blowback - even though it's apparent that you do not.

This country is in the position we find ourselves in predominantly because of people like you who push for short term gains without realizing that the long term is where the war will be won.

In short, your shortsightedness is what caused this nation to fall to where we are currently - but you're almost finished in having any say as to who we will be moving forward. Keep up all that you do - because what you do leads to your eventual exit from the table of power.

Why thank you! Too bad it generally disgusts me. I just couldn't resist in this case, given the headline.

Turn comments off on news sites. The readers stick around; the trolls can't do anything about it. Since any idiot can start a blog and use it to troll people, no one's losing their freedom of speech.

This guy is an idiot.

The printing press and moveable type existed in China centuries before it showed up in Europe.

If you would like to know what:

(a) Undermined the authority of the Catholic church?

(b) Powered the Reformation?

(c) Enabled the rise of modern science?

(d) Created entirely new social classes and professions?

(e) Changed our conceptions of "childhood" as a protected early period in a person's life?

it was the plague that killed off 80 percent of European populations in some areas and probably 40% in total through out the world.

Everything changed when people died off. Labor shortages caused wage increases, open lands meant farming produced a surplus of healthier foods, alternatives to serfdom popped up all over.

To thank the precious medium this guy is pimping is to ignore the suffering of hundreds of millions of people and write off what their deaths created.

All right. So the mechanical printing press was developed in Europe. Let's not cloud the issue with facts.

Could just ONE journalist covering this point out that they're taling about Arab-speaking (and probably Farsi and Urdu) bots posting on non-U.S. websites? They're not talking about creating Twitter or Facebook sock puppets. That would be EXTREMELY illegal.
