I'm 1/2 of Irish descent, and I don't know of many Irish people who get offended by cartoonish representations like this.

Its not like the Cleveland Indians logo or the blatantly racist (against blacks) comics of the 1920's.

2011-03-17 01:26:32 PM
Look - I've traveled all over Ireland, and work with many Irish people. I don't see anything in that commercial that misrepresents the Irish people or culture.

2011-03-17 01:28:17 PM
The only thing that would offend the Irish about that is that there isn't a shot of Jameson's poured on top.

Even Uncle O'Grimacy thinks that commercial sucked.

The Irish are far too inebriated to be enraged by anything that can't punch back.

2011-03-17 01:50:28 PM
That commercial made me want to start punching people like I was a drunken Irishman.

2011-03-17 01:56:17 PM
I'm only a quarter Irish, so I'm only mildly upset ...

2011-03-17 01:57:57 PM
It just made me want a sweet, sweet Shamrock Shake.

The sunrise enrages the Irish people. The sunset enrages the Irish people. Irish people enrage the Irish people. Rage enrages the Irish people. You see where I'm going with this?

In short, the Irish people deserve to be left alone on their angry little bog strewn island... which of course, they're enraged about not having all of it.

I'm enraged that you think all of that is true about us. I intend to fight you.

Seriously though, I can see how someone would think I'd be offended/enraged by this commercial, but... I just can't be. It's actually kind of funny.

Only thing that bugs me is that every time someone wants to imitate me in person or Irish in general, they immediately start trying to riverdance. That's nowhere near as prevalent as people seem to think. Ever seen a drunk guy try to riverdance?

Maybe down here in NOLA, which is where you live right? In Chicago they have them right now. People on a White Sox message board I frequent have been mentioning it.

I'm methodically offended.

Yes, and it should be encouraged.

I love those things.
Apparently, everyone else still loves them too.
They don't last long until they run out.

/like the peppermint "candy cane/xmas" shakes too...

I like how they are green. Green like shamrocks. So they are made to taste like shamrocks. Err... they are minty. Just like the Irish. Who drink lots of milkshakes.

/nothing about the product makes sense

I'm half drunk so yah uh, whatever I'm not really offended at all.

I'm offended I can't get it year round. Naturally we blamed the Irish. Hanged more than a few.

The storied inability of American voice actors to pull off any kind of a decent accent is alive and well in today's video games. So very, very bad.

If I want to piss the Irish off today I'll wear orange and remind them that Marching Season starts next month.

Are they even minty these days? Last time I had a Shamrock shake, it tasted like a green vanilla shake.

My Dad swears they used to make them pistachio flavored way back when they first came out. That is a shake I'd pay McDonald's Shake prices for!!

Until then, non-Green Rally's dollar value shake FTW.

What's supposed to tick me off? The green?

2011-03-17 07:02:05 PM
We of Irish descent aren't all uppity about such silly things. All you other races should try to work on that.

2011-03-17 07:03:51 PM
Twas creepy at the end with the girl separating from her parents to hang with the stranger with the pedo smile who sexually provokes the girl with a french fry.

2011-03-17 07:07:47 PM
The only thing that ticks me off is that none of you "Irish" commenters appear to be from Ireland, northern or otherwise.

jews and the irish have a rich cultural heritage of self-deprecating humor. probably other groups too, but it's particularly noticeable with these.
