Judging from this the league min is 300k. Funny how some players got like 300,500. The GM was probably: "Well you are defintely getting above the league minimun wage"

2003-07-30 04:55:28 PM
The best part is how many players are getting paid bank and not even active anymore. Albert Belle is the highest paid Oriole? Jesus. The man has been retired for like three years.

2003-07-30 05:28:06 PM
Wish somebody would pay me to play a game. Or browse FARK. Now that's a job.

2003-07-30 05:28:40 PM
Why are teams paying this kind of money? TEAMS win baseball games, not individuals.

[/just heard about an interview about the owner of the Oakland A's who used "low end" players to make a great team]

2003-07-30 05:28:49 PM
Go A-Rod! 22 mil!

2003-07-30 05:28:58 PM

Most bang for the buck ever:
Albert Pujols - $900,000

2003-07-30 05:29:20 PM
I hear ya Pothead. I especially love it when these guys go on strike for higher salaries. They don't deserve it, that's for sure.

2003-07-30 05:30:11 PM
They make THAT much money, and I get paid a TINY fraction of that to educate tommorrow's youth? What is WRONG with society??

2003-07-30 05:30:34 PM
BTW, the interview is here, in Real Audio. If you listen to it, I apologize in advance for the host. She's a moron, but her guests sometimes make up for her.

I wonder how much better baseball would be if they removed everybody making > $10 M/year.

2003-07-30 05:31:49 PM
Amen NEURACNU

2003-07-30 05:32:28 PM
minmeiWell if you could make it interestng enough that people would pay to watch you educate tommorrow's youth I'm sure you'd get a pay rise.

/got nothing

2003-07-30 05:32:41 PM
Thr Orioles pay a ton of money for two BJs

2003-07-30 05:33:44 PM
DEAN PALMER MAKES 8.5?????

2003-07-30 05:34:02 PM
Udo-

Just the opposite. They should remove everyone making more than 300,000/year. Greedy bastards.

But then again, 300,000/year is still way too much for what they do.

Talk about uneven distribution of wealth!

2003-07-30 05:34:17 PM
Yea, opening day. A lot of things have changed. One thing hasn't:

Mo Vaughn $17,166,667

That fat fark. I want to kill him.

2003-07-30 05:34:53 PM
that's a lot of million-dollar nickels...

2003-07-30 05:35:17 PM
Albert Belle $12,448,894

JJJJJJJJJJJJOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

2003-07-30 05:35:24 PM
shiat i feel bad for the 300k a year people.

2003-07-30 05:36:06 PM
All this "ballplayers make too much money" crap is just that, crap. The owners are raking in the cash...why shouldn't the players be receiving their fair share of the wealth that wouldn't exist without the contribution of their unique athletic skills?

As for why they go on strike and ruin the season...well, what can you say about unions that hasn't already been covered elsewhere.

2003-07-30 05:36:08 PM
I can't believe that all they are giving Bonds is $15,000,000.

I honesty believe that he is worth waaaaaayyyy more than that!

fark it- all of the Giants deserve better pay.

/flame on

2003-07-30 05:36:49 PM
absolutely insane, most MLB players are talented, but these salaries are absurd. If your a ML pitcher being payed millions of dollars, you should be able to hit a friggin' baseball!

2003-07-30 05:36:52 PM
How can the Rangers spend so much and suck so bad. It make me cry.

2003-07-30 05:36:59 PM
If you don't like how much these guys are getting paid, then DON'T WATCH BASEBALL, go to any games, buy any merchandise, etc.

The beauty of capitalism is that you can vote with your wallet.

2003-07-30 05:37:01 PM
Kevin Appier makes $11.5 million. Holy crap. The Angels ought to make him mow the field on off days or something to justify that kind of wage.

2003-07-30 05:37:33 PM
On average, basketball players make 3-4 times more than baseball players....and more of them are criminals.

2003-07-30 05:38:03 PM
Now if someone can paste a link regarding overpaid Hollywood actors, we'll have a topic to debate.

2003-07-30 05:38:46 PM
We need a link regarding overpaid McDonalds employees. Oh wait. Nevermind.

2003-07-30 05:41:24 PM

2003-07-30 05:41:25 PM
Coolia: Talk about uneven distribution of wealth!

The CEO of my company (who goes on vacation every other week) makes about $3M/year. The next highest guy down - $150,000/year.

2003-07-30 05:41:43 PM
k4mi...yes it does make me cry...been my favorite team for about 10 years...seen some good games...I just wish they would realize that they need pitchers

2003-07-30 05:41:45 PM

2003-07-30 05:41:56 PM

2003-07-30 05:42:55 PM
Oh, and while we are at it...

I'd hit it...with beer goggles.

2003-07-30 05:43:16 PM
What we need is a link about overpaid people whose names rhyme with "Gill Bates"

2003-07-30 05:43:22 PM
I especially love it when these guys go on strike for higher salaries. They don't deserve it, that's for sure.

Please show me one time in history when players went on strike for more money? They've simply asked, all along, that a free market be allowed to determine their value. To my knowledge, none of these contracts were signed while the owner was at gunpoint. Suppose you had a skill that ssociety determined, through it's actions and spending habits, was worth multiple millions of dollars. Suppose that the masters of that industry all got together and decide they would rather pay you 1/20th of that value, and what's more, you were not allowed to shop that skill to another employer unless they said so. I suppose you feel that would be fair.

They make THAT much money, and I get paid a TINY fraction of that to educate tommorrow's youth? What is WRONG with society??

When 1) 2.5 million people per year pay between $10 and $50 to watch you teach, and 2) when there aren't thousands of people that could replace you, then maybe teachers will make more money.

The only reason this list was posted was so that we could have another "those damn greedy players" thread. Grow up. Where's the list of Actors' salaries? Musicians? Why not rail against the greedy owners? They're the ones charging you $7 for a beer (hint: ticket prices and concession prices have nothing to do with players' salaries, despite what they tell you).

Re: Albert Belle. The Orioles will keep him on the active player 60-day DL for the length of his contract so that they have their insurance cover his salary. That's why he hasn't technically retired.

2003-07-30 05:44:08 PM
Does Mark McGuire still play? And if so, for which team?

2003-07-30 05:44:42 PM
How big is baseball in this country? Take one afternoon
alone, the day after Christmas to be exact in the large, garbage-strewn parking
lot outside Tetalo Vargas Stadium in San Pedro de Macoris, the Dominican
Republics third largest city whose most famous resident is famous for saying,
"Beisbol has been very, very good to
me!"

2003-07-30 05:45:34 PM
I must say I appreciate Marcus Giles even more. 9 straight hits his last two games and he only makes a little more than league minimum. Go Braves!

2003-07-30 05:45:53 PM
Agent Pothead :I wish somebody would pay me to play a game. Or browse FARK. Now that's a job.

I AM lucky I know...I admit I am compensated with a large sum of money just to browse FARK all day...I just make sure my boss doesnt know!!

2003-07-30 05:46:04 PM
Most vastly overpriced:

Derek Jeter, $15,600,000

=:-O

2003-07-30 05:46:23 PM
Mark McGuire retired a few years ago
