My younger, much much dumber brother used to raid my spice cabinet and smoke the oregano and parsley. Claimed it worked. Did I mention this boy used to light sticks from the yard on fire and smoke them?

/still can't believe I share genes with him

StrangeQ: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Sounds like some fat, dumb administrator saw what he/she thought was weed, apprehended it, realized it was just a farking spice, and then felt so embarrassed that they made up the bogus charge. farking retards.

/that said, someone was obviously selling oregano to clueless students

phalamir: JackieRabbit: If they don't stop the possession of the fake stuff they can't stop the possession of the real stuff either.

Are you high? The possession of a legal substance does not in any way reduce the law's ability to arrest you for an illegal one. Drug laws are not held to the standard of trademarks. And if you can't tell oregano from pot, I really don't want you overseeing my kids (or supposedly protecting me from criminals). If the kid sells oregano as pot, charge him with the crime he actually committed, i.e false advertising

You know, I'm all for the legalization of pot. Very much for it, actually. But the hoops that some of you idiots jump through to try and make a case for your cause really farking astounds me.

A little bit of honesty is all I am asking for. Honestly, what do you think this kid was doing with that bag? Bringing it to season his slice of pizza during lunch? I don't farking think so, and niether do you, so cut the shiat. The kid was either trying to pass off the bag as pot to some other dumbass at the school or he was the dumbass that had the bag passed off on him. One way he is in middle school trying to pass off a controlled substance, the other he is in middle school trying to obtain a controlled substance. Neither would ever be legal in any sense even if pot were a legal substance so there is no argument to be made, period. The administrators did exactly what they should have done which is to try to keep drugs and alchohol out of the school, how can you possibly find any fault in what they did?

/I want to support you guys, I really do
//But you make it really farking hard sometimes.

I love it when people didn't read any more than anyone else and then pretend that they know the real story.

The kid in question was in possession of the bag for about 30 seconds. 4 kids were punished, equally, for being in possession of the bag. The bag was not owned or brought to school or purchased by the kid in the article.

This isn't even a real discussion about drug laws in the US, it's about school administrators kneejerking their way through a career to avoid having to deal with pissed off parents. And when they finally encounter one whos pissed off at their hamfisted approach to educating and disciplining their kid(s) they point to their hamfisted policies as justification.

The story goes:
Older (sounds like high school age) brother of one of the kids tells his middle school brother that it would be "really cool" if he brought in some oregano to school and tried to pass it off as pot. Middle schooler does so. Some other kids do, indeed think it's cool, pass it around a bit.

Here's where you have to take someones word:
The kid in question says he was given the bag and asked if he could return it to its owner. He thought the kid would be in his next class, but wasn't, and passed it to another friend of the original owner.

There is a link to a much more detailed article upthread that would make you sound like less of a douche if you read it.

As for being for legalization, that's an opinion you should be able to hold based on principle and independent of the "hoops some of ... [the] ... idiots jump through".

MIC. There's your justification for legalization. I don't care if somebody says that pot will free everyone's mind and we'll live forever in world peace if we legalize it, man... How does that change the legitimacy of the position that I hold for my own reasons?

TLDR: I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about and just want to sound superior to some potheads on the internet.

PIC, rather, not MIC. MIC too, but it's harder to make the connections there.

Reminds of a guy I know. Got called into a meeting with his boss, a high level manager from human resources, his bosses boss. They wanted him to resign or be fired. The reason the picture of a lady and under aged girl in his cube wearing bikini's.

Is there a punchline there? Was it a vacation photo of his wife and daughter? I think you accidentally the last thing.

stonicus: Anyone wanna buy some LSD?

Back in the day, a friend of mine bought a sheet of blotter acid
from another 'friend'. We each took a tab - no reaction. Then two.
Still no reaction. The entire sheet was bogus. Smelled (and tasted)
like the 'friend' took a sheet of paper and soaked it in Pinesol.

The smarter move (who are we kidding we're talking about school admin aka amateur politicians) would have been to hold the kid in the office until mom or dad came to school for a meeting with the Principal. Explain the situation to the parents and let the parents deal with the discipline. The school is not there to raise the kid. If the kid disrupts class or endangers himself or others on campus, then the school should deal with the discipline. The kid acts like an idiot let the parents deal with it. Maybe give the kid detention for a day or two for wasting the Principal's time. I would have been grounded for a month for a stupid stunt like this.

I grow oregano (and other stuff, but the oregano is leafy and tall) in my kitchen window, and use it to make homemade vinegars that we use in pasta salad, salads, some chicken dishes, etc. We have a mortar and pestle too, and dry it and grind it up and store it for later. When a plant gets a certain size, you might as well just harvest it and start over. Knowing how innocent my kids are, and how much they love food (quality home cooking is the shiz) I could imaging them taking a bag to school to show the teacher and kids.

Just saying, I could see it happening. I could also see the pointy heads freaking out about it. I couldn't see myself suing anyone though, I'd just write a nice humorous article for the local paper about it, apologizing for raising my kids to be dirty hippy Italian cuisine lovers.

You win win the prize. Called in to be fired for vacation pictures of his wife and daughter. Because some bint complained to HR.

He said the their reaction when he did the slow burn for 30 seconds then pounded his fist on the table, stood up, guys 6'-4", and went off them with MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER! WHY YOU FILTHY! DISGUSTING! on and on as they sat in horror and fear... was priceless.

When he was done he went back to his desk and could hear his bosses boss screaming at the HR lady.

No one is talking about drug laws, fella. We're talking about school regulations, not laws. I have said it and so have others. These kids weren't passing around a dime bag of oregano as a prank. They were trying to act like tough guys or trying to sell fake weed. Either way, in nearly every school in the country, it is a serious offense.

Speaking of "trademark standards", you do realize, don't you that you get just as much prison time when you get caught selling shiat week as selling the premo stuff. And, in some states, if you are selling fake pot as real pot, you are still guilty of trafficking in a controlled substance.

Lame. I had a big post about how oregeno does not resemble pot in any way shape or form. Again, the damned intertubes ate my post.

\damn you intertubes!
//also it's stupid, if the DEA were to raid our kitchen they'd find about 13 different kinds of tea, 3 types of bath salts and two dumb dogs, that's enough to be put behind bars anymore...boo
//yes we smoke pot but not very often, tho every pothead says that. We're decent ppl with jorbs but don't smoke or sniff the oregeno. Dumb. Been dumb for over 20 years....propaganda. Why doesn't Dear leader, the one leader in progressiveness put a stop to the nonsense? Bueller? Guess he don't get a second term then..blech.

How is it that they can suspend a student for that when you can't even get high off oregano?

No, I live in a rural area. Kids around here don't live like victims of their environment, they have a sense of adventure and an interest in everything. They've brought live frogs, Hoberman spheres, jewelry made from circuit boards, backpacks made out of duct tape, and god knows what else to school before, I'm sure if they found the smell of a bag of fresh ground oregano noteworthy, they wouldn't think twice about sharing the experience with friends.

I feel so sorry for people who only do what people tell them to do.

perhaps just a bit inexperienced coupled with the fact people are dickish sometimes.
