pippi longstocking: Everybody knows how to fix the economy:

1. Redo the tax brackets, yes there is a difference between $250K earners and $250M earners, make tax payments reflect that huge discrepancy. And no, there isn't much difference between a $50k and $75k household, but according to our taxing system they think it's huge.

2. Cut defense spending...by a lot. We spend almost as much as the entire world COMBINED! You're telling me we can't cut the fat from here? Especially when no one wants us "policing" our way to military contractor utopia.

3. Fix the infrastructure, starting with education. A developed nation's competitive advantage lies within it's capital intensive markets, and they can't flourish without the appropriate level of human capital. This is why more and more white-collar jobs have been taken by foreign students because we aren't producing enough of our own, because our public schools and our entire education system is a HUGE sad joke.

4. Regulate the financial markets, need I explain why? Good.

None of that is ever going to done because it doesn't make the wealthy wealthier, thus they won't shower "our" politicians with ridiculous sums of money to spew nonsense like the unions are destroying our economy and trickle down economics works.

Face it, you're all powerless peasants that have no real education, knowledge nor drive to change things.

You overlooked something.

IT'S NOT EVEN MONEY! IT'S SH*TTY, USELESS IOUS PRINTED AND REGULATED BY A PRIVATE BANK THAT LENDS IT TO OTHER PRIVATE BANKS WHO PRETEND TO PULL MORE OF IT OUT OF THEIR ASSES WHEN THEY MAKE LOANS!!!

House Republicans are holding an emergency meeting of the Rules Committee on Wednesday to take up legislation that would block funding to NPR in the wake of James O'Keefe's hidden camera prank on the news organization.

You mean the "hidden camera prank" that's been proven to be a heavily edited hack job? That hidden camera prank?

As has been said already, fark you GOP.

StanTheMan: Ladnil: How come I never see liberals using "conservative" as a slur? Happens pretty much constantly in the other direction.

Maybe because "conservative" polls so much better than "liberal." Hell, most libs run from the word themselves and call themselves "progressive."

Hi, my name is Two and I'm a Liberal.

Jackdragna: Bwhahaha. You're a peach. First, I'd love to see some statistics on the heart attack/cancer survivability rates. Even if they were true, I'm not sure that's the best thing to hang you hat on, friend - our rate of people actually having cardiovascular problems is not good compared to other industrialized nations. We also have hideous infant mortality rates, not-so-great lifespans and, as mentioned before, astronomical health care costs. You keep saying socialized medicine is a Ponzi scheme - how is it any worse than the system where health insurers look for excuses to kick people off policies when sick and constantly jack up costs?

OK Jackdragna, since you asked, I will dispense with the insults for a moment. I realize you libs think that if 100% of the people, including every illegal alien, isn't covered, no system can be good. I disagree. For the 80-90% who do have access, we have the best healthcare in the world.

Here's a link, with citations, clearly showing the US is among the top in cancer survivability.

As for heart disease, that is, like most health issues, related to diet and lifestyle (physical inactivity *doubles* the risk of heart disease). Our diet and lifestyle is horrible. We are glued to the couch eating Big Macs, and we blame the healthcare system for this? Diet and lifestyle are supposed to keep you out of the healthcare system! Hell, it's a testament to our healthcare that we can keep all these fatties living to 79 years. And we do have great survivability rates for those diagnosed with heart disease. Most of them can just take a pill, thanks to Big Bad US Pharma.

Infant mortality is measured differently (a big problem with comparing most healthcare stats across nations) in each country. But Cuba's is low, largely because of the use of abortion as birth control, with no stigma whatsoever, and of course, we are believing a closed police state's numbers.

I'm sure if you adjusted for those actually "in" the insured system (which is fair, since we have a hybrid system of private and public, and I am arguing to include more people in it), and other things like our government policies of encouraging the poor to have more kids, those mortality rates might drop considerably.

I used to work in an ER - you know how many illegals came in ready to pop, with zero pre-natal care? Like every single OB-check I ever called a nurse for. Is that fair to count towards infant mortality, when they shouldn't even friggin' be here?

You keep saying socialized medicine is a Ponzi scheme - how is it any worse than the system where health insurers look for excuses to kick people off policies when sick and constantly jack up costs?

It's much better, because at least insurance companies - which average less than 4% profit - have to be in the black or they go out of business. It is an inherently more efficient check on overspending than giant government programs which can run endless deficits, paid with printing or borrowing passed along to our descendants. Medicare simply doesn't, well, care about the costs. A prescription for disaster, and it's coming, brother.

Obviously, private insurance isn't perfect, but I categorically reject Utopian solutions. Private systems are better, not perfect, for the best care. Of course, those who blather on about how expensive our system is conveniently forget that we have a hybrid system, and Medicare and Medicaid cost trillions, with zero deductibles, putting us deeper and deeper into hopeless debt.

No, but when it costs $50,000 per hour in salaries alone, not counting support staff, for Congress to argue, I'd hope they could find something a tad more important than barely north of $1M out of a $2,500,000 Million budget.

So, say your household budget is $80k. You're quite literally advocating arguing over a NICKEL and wondering why people think you're nuts.

That, or for anyone with half an education in civics or political science knows that on its own "liberal" is a fairly meaningless term. "Progressive" is the antonym to "conservative" and better-defines the Democratic platform. Even republicans are (economic) liberals.

AdolfOliverPanties: An emergency hearing to defund NPR?

I don't give two shiats if they want to try to defund NPR. They think that is the kind of thing their constituency finds important, and they are probably right.

But EMERGENCY?

Same thing happened with ACORN and that turned out to be over nothing. How many times are these dopes going to buy the shiat O'Queef shovels to them?

If it weren't for the sorry state this country was left in by President Bush, and the need to get it fixed, I'd want the Democrats to hold emergency meetings to investigate every single right-leaning entity that receives a farking penny of government funding.

Today's GOP is the greatest threat the United States has ever faced.

After reading through this thread.

Republicans still consider anything not solidly dittohead to be far, far, far, far, far, lefty, leftist, communist, stuff.

They feel very threatened by this stuff.

They still believe that a health care system that consumes 1/6 of our national economy is a sacred thing that can't be touched.

They believe vast majority of Americans are Hannitized dittoheads who are yearning to be free of the liberal yoke of smartypants oppression.

Morans with a serious persecution complex, essentially.

Who was the last President that didn't golf or participate in photo ops? Hasn't America faced difficult and perilous times before?

The very foundation of conservative political thought is the idea that individuals don't need government to prosper. And yet the President leaves his office for half a day and every Republican in the country shiats themselves.

Reagan golfed while the Soviets were planning new ways to destroy us in a nuclear holocaust. I think we'll be OK this time.

Ok, I'm a sustaining member. Of two stations. I farking love NPR. The thing is, I already put my money where my mouth is, and I'm worried sick.

Know why? My pledges won't make much of a difference. I live in one of the liberal bastions of the country. WNYC produces some of the best programming in public radio. It's not going anywhere. Neither is WSHU. The biggest problem with defunding NPR is the way it will change the radio landscapes in the less liberal areas of the country. If NPR goes away, there will huge swaths of the country that will have greatly reduced radio news sources. Think of miles upon miles of highway with nothing but country music, conservative talk, and christian radio. I can't let that happen in my country. There needs to be an alternative for information.

StanTheMan: Lando Lincoln: StanTheMan: But suddenly, we don't have a moment to spare. Time to get serious!

When would be a good time for the Republicans to get serious? January of 2013? What time would be good for you?

Cutting wasteful spending is serious, you farking libs. Too bad Obama talks out of one side of his mouth, and does the exact opposite when it comes to his fantasies of cutting the deficit.

How can you even make a case for NPR funding when we are running $1.4T deficits? I mean, do you libs really think there will be no consequences to all of this debt? Unbelievable.

Republicans ran on cutting spending and they are doing it. Good riddance to NPR funding and taxpayer support of cash cows like Sesame Street.

This.

Since Obama became president, the budget deficit has quintupled and he is funding this massive spending spree by selling the American economy to Communist China. Basically, the Democrats are trying to profit off of the collapse of the domestic economy by causing the next Great Depression through massive printing and spending of currency. This will absolutely cause massive hyperinflation on par with the levels seen in post-war Nazi Germany. These numbers show the clear picture:
img836.imageshack.us

As you can see, Communist China now owns half of the American economy. This has occurred entirely under the Liberal Obama Administration within the last 2 years. The correlation coefficient clearly shows a direct causative link between the inception of the Obama Presidency and the Democrat profiteering via the short-selling of the domestic economy to a Communist entity.

When we are facing these enormous fiscal issues it is absolutely baffling that the Liberals are trying to pour even more funding into biased media outlets such as NPR, even though the very eloquent and intelligent Mr. O'Keefe has clearly shown NPR to be a hotbed for the Liberal extremism that is being spread by the Federal Reserve and the Democrats.
