The ozone layer won't be repaired until after Connor Macleod saves us from the bad guys from the planet Zeist or something.

2003-07-30 04:12:46 AM
this is a normal movement of the ozone... it's not a repair

I look forward to being dead before any of this environmental BS can hurt me

2003-07-30 04:22:13 AM
Didn't we discover that the hole just kind of opened and closed on it's own?

Oh, and second person to mention global warming gets -50 karma, which pretty much means you'll get hit by a bus full of hippies or something.

2003-07-30 04:30:11 AM
There are hippies I know from university I can't wait to contact at 3AM for an "In your face!" call.

2003-07-30 04:31:15 AM
I'm sure this means a decrese in global warming!

A science post without numbers is like a boobies post without pictures.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

2003-07-30 04:33:56 AM
Hopefully they are right. The ozone hole does go through a natural cycle of getting larger and smaller, hopefully it'll stay on the smaller side.

/not likely

gahaha they spelled it "stabilising"

2003-07-30 04:37:19 AM

is a rock band with a dj still a rock band?

how many hoes must a man slap down, before you can call him a pimp?

is a lack of ozone a nozone?

what is the sound of one hand fapping?

Yeah, I'm gonna show her my "O Hole" tonight.

(that came across worse than I expected. whee.)

2003-07-30 05:20:51 AM
99 Layers of O-zone on the wall
99 Layers of O-zone
Break-one down, gasses abound
98 Layers of O-zone on the wall....

- Ten years later -

1 Layer of O-zone on the wall
1 Layer of O-zone
Break it down, gasses abound
And the sun melts the planet down.

Jesus Christ I need sleep. I've now been up for over 51 hours. What is it that they say? A person can go three days without sleep before going insane?

"All work and no play make Homer go something, something.."
"Insane?"
"Don't mind in I DO!!!!! AHHH HAAAAAAHAHAHA!!!!!!!"

I think this is America's new secret weapon. We open up ozone holes over different areas of the world, scorching all life, killing it, that is caught in the area-of-effect.

Would be kinda cool if we could open up a giant O-zone Hole over North Korea right on top of Kim Il whatever his name is and fry the little 5 foot 2 bastard.

The Germans came up with something similar. They call it Laser Herr Removal.

2003-07-30 05:36:21 AM
It would be even cooler if we had mind-control weapons placed in outer-space. Dennis Kucinich, the progressive Democrat that is endorsed by Indymedia is sponsoring a bill to ban space mind-control weapons. Tell Dennis Kucinich that mind-control weapons from space are vital to our national security.

2003-07-30 05:45:05 AM
it would be the coolest if we could develop a "laser" and then blow up the moon causing massive ocean changes and then kill all sea life dependent on a tidal environment.

i hate jelly fish.

2003-07-30 05:48:18 AM
the ozone layer is still decreasing...just not as fast...so we are still farked...but slower so we can thoroughly enjoy skin melting off our bodies.

Wow, I am so dark!

The ozone hole has been around a lot longer than the chemicals that they say break it down.

And CFC's, the primary "culprit", are some of the most stable compounds known to man. For them to be wreaking havoc on the ozone layer, they've got to be broken up by solar radiation, which isn't nearly strong enough to do so at ozone layer altitudes.

There is scientific evidence that they sky is not falling.

2003-07-30 08:06:56 AM
ok, here's my best effort albtraum, no guarentees of correctness

are guys with a combover bald?
Yes, they have no hair growing out of that part of ther head therefore are bald

is a rock band with a dj still a rock band?
music genres are dodgy, if people call it rock, rock it is, there are no definitions

how many hoes must a man slap down, before you can call him a pimp?
no idea whatsoever, pimp/ho' experince is limited>nil

is a lack of ozone a nozone?
No, this looks like a joke, oh hang on... the whole thing was a joke!

what is the sound of one hand fapping?
I thought that fapping was predomintantly a one handed activity, although I'd be happy to be disllusioned

2003-07-30 08:39:46 AM
sounds like backpedalling to me.

How could just a few years of some bullshait treaty reverse a planets atmosphere that's been going through cycles like this for billions of years?

If Montreal UN treaty worked so well here, we should send some of these worthless treehuggers to Mars. After they're done there we'll be able to breate on the surface in less than 10 years.

They could help Ahnuld find the secret device at Mars's core and melt the polar ice caps, which in turn would stop everyone's head from turning to latex and thier eye's popping out when exposed to the atmosphere.

2003-07-30 09:06:53 AM
I got into an argument with someone over CFCs. They are HEAVIER THAN AIR, so how do they get to the upper atmosphere?

He replied, they are stable down near earth, but they break down at higher altitudes and cause the problem.

Now, if they are heavier than air, and are stable at low altitudes, then HOW THE FARK DO THEY GET TO THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE TO BREAK DOWN INTO COMPONENTS THAT ARE LIGHT ENOUGH TO GET TO THE UPPER ATMOSPHER AND DESTROY THE OZONE LAYER?

It's junk science. I want my R-12 back.

2003-07-30 09:22:40 AM
I notice all the people proclaiming "junk science" haven't posted any links, numbers or articles from Science or Nature coroborating their theory that there was never an ozone hole.

The people that deny the ozone hole are the same people that deny global climate change and evolution. And they do it without actual scientific literature. Facts and evidence? Bah!

2003-07-30 09:25:09 AM
Zagloba ,
You don't know what you are talking about.

CFC's are very stable, in the troposhere. This very stability is why they can make it up to the stratosphere unchanged, where they then enter into some nefarious business. In the stratosphere, CFC's are broken down by uv and free radicals to odd chlorine which is the real culprit in ozone destruction. There is essentially no disagreement in the scientific community about the negative effects of CFC's. This is one of the reasons for the unprecedented success of the Montreal Protocol in getting developed nations to agree to stop using this stuff. Zagloba 's suggestion that there is a scientific basis debunking the CFC -stratospheric ozone destroying connection is simply wrong. Next time get the facts before you call bs.

2003-07-30 09:51:39 AM
Quick everyone! Get lots of aersol cans and let them off!!! We can't let this thing win!

2003-07-30 09:55:36 AM
Come on... it's:
No beer and no T.V. make Homer... something, something.
Go crazy?
Don't mind if I do!

2003-07-30 10:01:09 AM
So an international environmental treaty works to correct a problem, and now the asshats come out of the woodwork to claim there never was a problem?

Typical. Let's go back to lead paint and asbestos while we're at it.

2003-07-30 10:09:22 AM
Cool! Does that mean we can have our R-12 back? Will the farmers get Methyl Bromide back? Will all the HVAC guys get to rip up their licenses needed to buy refridgerant? I hope so, because none of that has anything to do with the ozone layer. Most of the CFC's released into the atmosphere come from volcanos and the US government's use of CFC's for cleaning for defense purposes.

2003-07-30 10:10:31 AM
Where is your proof that there is a hole in the ozone?

Global Warming? Where the hell is this farking global warming I've been hearing so much about? I still freeze my ass off in the winter.

The average yearly temperature readings at the North and South pole Weather stations have actually been dropping. Look it up yourself.

2003-07-30 10:17:41 AM
I should rephrase my statement.

Where is your proof that about 250 years of human industialized society caused the apparent "hole" in the ozone?

Because I know you eco-Nazis will flip out with links to satellite pix and other meaningless theories.

2003-07-30 10:19:59 AM
check that.... typo.

actually only about 150 yrs. of industry

a nanosecond in the history of earth's life

2003-07-30 10:33:31 AM
Umm...The ozone layer is

"...disappearing less quickly..."

That means it's still Disappearing.

2003-07-30 10:50:04 AM
Re: Holes in the ozone.
Where are they? At the poles. Why? Put some water in a basketball(a sphere). Spin it. Where will the water be thinnest or absent? At the poles of the axis of spin. Will they be perfectly stable? No, they'll vary due to variations on the inner surface, temperature, and such. Oh, there's a hole in the ozone, and it's expanding! Oh, wait, it's getting smaller. It's a natural process. Don't even get me started on the whole CFC/ozone layer thing. And I still wish the "scientific community" would make up their minds whether we can look forward to "global warming" or a new ice age.

/disgusted with lack of rationality and common sense
