Well being she was a single mom of three in Jersey City. The State of New Jersey was already providing everything for these kids, so providing them with an attentive mother is the next logical step.

She was trying to find a new daddy and maybe even save the state some money. Now she's going to be 3 years older when she hits the clubs narrowing her prospects quite a bit. Good job New Jersey

yeah, three years a little ridiculous. actually, I feel like any jail time is ridiculous. she made an error, no argument there. but, the issue is whether the children should be with her - not whether she should go to prison.

I'm getting very bored with this country's desire to make crimes where there is no harm. We already have child protective services to deal with this type of problem. Crap, the life long crack addict that od'ed in front of the kids is going to get a better deal than this girl.

Yeah, exactly. Why is 'lock her up' the default response here, when she has no priors? Make her take parenting classes, monitor her movements for a couple years, test her for drugs/alcohol, and save the state some $.

So they get to go from indifferent treatment by their mother to indifferent treatment by the state system. Seems like a great change for them.

I was single mother, in my early 30's and it wasn't always pleasant - that's why I only did it once, and I sure as hell wouldn't have left my daughter alone while I went out clubbin'.

Look, PN, There is no shortage of kids on this planet. And there is no shortage of tr=errible parents, either. There is, however, a shortage of justice.
Take the mother and kids and execute them all.
Set the example that if you can't be a parent, then you lose your life and theirs, as well. If, for some reason, a father wants to come forth and claim the kids, then they are his responsibility, until he farks up. This assures that only people who are willing to risk their lives for their kids' saftely will propagate.
Watch the birth rate screetch to a halt.
