Meh. Susan Dey did it better (new window, possibly NSFW) thirty years ago. She even joked about rape-rape.

Am I supposed to feel this underwhelmed?

Why was there a clump of hair in the middle of the record?

Cool looking but I'm pretty sure we shouldn't be saying zoetrope here. Just because it spins around doesn't mean it'd a zeotrope.

But could he build a tripod?

Seriously, pretty neat.

I still have the zoetrope from The Doors Full Circle album. Haven't looked at for at least 35 years though.

It's not just spinning, it is synced just like a zoetrope. If it wasn't, it'd just be a colorful blur instead of block things looking like they are moving up and down.

But they don't look like they are moving up and down, they look like they are different sizes and are being lit at different times.

My point is that it doesn't produce the sense of motion that a zeotrope does. Maybe if it was shot from a lower angle and close up. I see blocks lit up. My reaction isn't "OMG they're moving".

I must have finally achieved angry old man status.

That could have been really cool but it sure seemed boring to me

The bush in the middle of the turny-thing...very 70's.

My reaction was, "OMG i could do this with a flashlight and a record player", and WITHOUT the retarded music.

yup, underwhelming... it just looked like a thing that was being lit up as it was spinning... and the music was shiatty (no offense)

The lights are just for added effect. If he set it up at a proper viewing angle in regular lighting I suppose the effect would be more apparent to you guys. I can easily focus on one area even in that video and see the zoetrope effect. I think what is distracting you guys is, as you said, the lights and angle. Try focusing on the outer rings. If you look at the inner area and center then it ruins the effect since that area is not the synced area, the outer rings are.

Um...

I know I'm not hip, not cool with the kids these days, but I fail to be impressed. What am I supposed to be seeing? Grey blocks with lights on them spinning in a circle is what I get from that. Maybe shown from a bad angle? Too much ambient light?

I think the overall feeling of this thread is subby got wayyy to excited about his best-buddies project.

I fail to see anything here that merits "Coolest video of ________".

Pixar and Studio Gibli would like a word with subby.
