I would love to snog Ginny Weasley on set.

Sets and props are never as impressive in person as they are on screen. Especially with movies that rely on CGI.

Think of how old those sets are. Think of the quick fixes and repairs have been made to them that during the filming can be edited out or are too small to notice. When you are there, you will notice. Anything that is supposed to be rock, or brick, or really anything solid that looks old is just painted styrofoam. Go to Disney World instead.

Think about how dumb and gullible with disposable income the average Harry Potter fan is.

I promise you you would not be able to tell the difference from six inches away. The level of craft on a film of that level would shock you.

Seems like a smart move. Stuff that would either get tossed or mothballed gets to keep generating profit.

Then you may like seeing this clip (pops) about the house they filmed The Godfather at. I made that link go to the part about constructing the gatehouse, but the whole video is interesting.

That might be true initially, but those sets are going to show their age pretty soon, if they aren't already. If you're a film nerd and you like all that behind-the-scenes stuff, then I'm sure you'll enjoy it either way. But if you're actually hoping to "visit" Hogwarts, you'd be much better off going to Harry Potter world at Universal Studios in Orlando, where they built the stuff sturdy enough to last a couple decades at least. Plus, they sell butterbeer.

I've never read a single Potter book or seen a single Potter movie with the exception of "Wizard People, Dear Reader," which is supposed to be the book-on-tape version of the first movie read aloud simultaneously with the movie, with several parts hilariously made up. Are the actual movies worth watching at all? From what I gathered from the Wizard People visuals, they're not.

I think they're pretty decent books if you don't expect Tolstoy. Just enjoy them for what they're worth. Movies are about the same.

The movies are ok.....they really pale in comparison to the books.

...as for the books, I once tried starting at the first one, and was a bit put off for some reason.....then a few years later I started reading at the Goblet of Fire (after seeing the first three movies) and it turns out that the books become quite entertaining from about the 3rd or 4th book on. I highly recommend trying to read the first few. It's really worth it in the end.

The first two flicks were Chris Columbus family-friendly flicks.

Then ... things got weird

Haha, no holmes I look down on adults who are inordinately invested in Star Wars/Star Trek and homoerotica for children too.

Don't get all double posting angry because some people have the ability to discern between quality and crap.

I'm a Star Wars fan but that was a righteous burn.

Before the recent turmoil, at least, people did travel to Tunisia to see Star Wars Tatooine locations where sets were left standing. Lucas doesn't control the locations but the locals profit from any tourism.

You mean Universal. That's where all the Harry Potter stuff is. I was just there, it's actually pretty impressive. They recreated Daigon Alley, with all the shops. And the castle, of course. The ride was too jarring for my tastes, but still very impressive.
