akimbotoo: She sure does look so much better! Ok, so what have you named her? ;D

Her shelter name is Anita, but she looks a lot like another sick foster named Serenity that we found a "forever home" for so we're calling her serenity II. Blast from the not so distant past...

I really get a great feeling of accomplishment from doing stuff like this and other volunteer work I'm involved in. If you've got a spare couple of hours a month you really should look into doing a little volunteer work.

I second that, I used to foster and volunteer at a shelter but I kept keeping them (Juno and Morticia), so now I volunteer at a National Wildlife Refuge. Lots of fun and a great sense of accomplishment plus there's no chance I'm going to take a coyote, bald eagle or bison home, my HOA won't allow it.

There was at one point a Best Western and Best Eastern (both owned by the same person/group I think), but the two combined together under the name Best Western in 1966.

Best Western History according to them. (new window)

LOL...great pic! (and probably accurate)

I guess it depends on your frame of reference. Maybe they should just call them 'Best Compass Reading'

From Wiki (clicked before I pasted)

"The name "Best Western" was a result of most of their properties originally being in the Western United States west, of the Mississippi River. From 1946 to 1964, Best Western had a marketing partnership with Quality Courts, the forerunner of the chain known today as Quality Inns, whose properties were located mostly east of the Mississippi River, not in direct competition with Best Western. This partnership made sense geographically, but was not successful in the long run, and was abandoned. In 1964, Best Western launched an expansion effort of its own operations east of the Mississippi using the moniker "Best Eastern" for those properties with the same typestyle and Gold Crown logo as "Best Western." By 1967, the "Best Eastern" name was dropped and all motels from coast-to-coast got the "Best Western" name and Gold Crown, a move that would further enhance an already successful marketing brand into the "World's Largest Hotel Chain" by the 1970s."

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! (And warnings!) I am a biter myself, so I should fit in just fine! ferfer72, thanks for the caption.. Conan was sleeping in the sink, I could imagine his reaction if I turned on the water at that moment! He was not to happy the night he jumped into the toilet while my hubby was using it! Sopping wet kitten at 4 in the morning is not fun! Had to rinse him off in the sink that night.

I'd post more, but I don't have anything interesting/useful to say, I don't wanna attention-whore (more than I already have), and I just got back from a walk at the mall and a hot shower. I got a cookie, too.

yobbery: LOL...great pic! (and probably accurate)

That was Lisa the mom of my last fosters. I used to keep my fosters in my second bathroom to keep them separate from my monsters. I went in one day and could not find her, now it's a good sized bathroom, but there are really no places to hide and I was starting to panic. She had opened the cupboard door under the sink and was hiding from her kittens in there. So I propped the doors open put some towels and blankets in there and moved the kittens in. When they started getting a little mobile I made steps using books so they didn't fall on their heads. It actually made a nice warm bed for everybody. Lisa could still get away from her kittens by getting up by the sink - which is where she was in the "worm picture".

bessyglass: Attended the local cat show and got to see many beautiful kitties. The majority tended to be large and fluffy - maine coon style. Is this a regional trend or national?

I guess it is likely national since (according to the Cat Fanciers Accoc.) the top 2 breeds in popularity are the Persian and the Maine Coon

Yes, but sadly I can only pull the internet access strings at my site. The problem is likely that you're trying to access fark from a clinical workstation. The clinical workstations at my site(all flo carts, all wall mounts, and most of the machines at nursing stations) access the internet through a strict proxy rule which includes blocks for facebook and probably fark as well. I fark from work all the ti....er...I mean very seldom O.o

You need to try from a machine that has a standard OS image. Most of these can be found outside of the immediate patient care areas. in offices...etc. A standard office machines will let you get to fark. Hopefully they don't proxy by user id at the big house (as a rule we don't). If they do you're out of luck.

I still may have a work around for you. I'll check Monday.

...and now Biscuit, he always seems to have a question mark over his head?

He's doing better, thanks. He doesn't like his special food but he is tolerating it. He wouldn't eat at all in the hospital and they ended up force feeding him on Tuesday morning.

His personality has done a 180 since he was there. We haven't even had to start his anxiety meds back up. He has yet to attack a dog and seems like a totally different kitty. It seems that either the pain meds or the anesthesia are still affecting him some. He goes for another checkup on Friday.

What kind of food is he on? Mine are now on Royal Canin Urinary SO, they seem to really like the dry, we'll see about the wet in the morning. I am going to start giving everybody cosequin so I don't have to police their breakfast to keep Juno and Morticia from stealing Lucy's food.

Repo Man: I rescued a couple of feral kittens last October. I already had three cats, I didn't need any more! But they were so little. THe local humane society wouldn't take them (I live too far from the city limits). Thankfully, my mom agreed to take one of them off my hands.

Here is a clip of them on my bed. (new window) It was their last day together, I took one of them to my mom's after that. They are sweet little kitties. I named the one I kept Samantha.
