Headline is wrong subby, or article is and I DNRTFA. They will no longer receive direct deposit if they miss 2 or more sessions and will have to come to the capitol if they want to pick up their checks.

THAT will really stop them.

As we all know, senators live hand-to-mouth and can't afford to leave their paycheck un-cashed and un-deposited for a few days.

People do what they know, and we're talking about Republicans here. They sat down and thought up the worst thing in the world, and it would be not getting paid.

Snerk. Reminds me of the Dilbert cartoon where Dogbert buys a Senator. "He's hungry. Do we have any whiskey?"

Remember, if Republicans do something the people don't want, it's because they're principled.

But Democrats can't be principled, so blocking their direct deposit will make them grant quorum for something they don't believe in.

Good sense.

THIS. Most of these guys are independently wealthy so their public wages are really not much. Or they get paid enough where missing a paycheck or two won't matter.

The fleebaggers aren't principled.
If they were, they would show up and fight.
Or they would stay in the state and be willing to face the consequences.

Instead they are ducking their responsibilities.

According to Wikipedia, salary for a Wisconsin State Senator is $49,943.

None of them are using this job as their primary means of earning a living.

This correlates directly with the prank interview Scott Walker did with (fake) David Koch that just came out.

I wonder if the media will pick up on that interview and quote some of the things Walker said in it.

Well this is the first time I've wanted to live in Illinois. What a weird feeling. I'd love to have a pillow fight with Senatress Julie Lassa of district 24 as we wait for our frozen pizza to finish cooking.

Preventing something they don't believe in from occurring is a fight, you farking retard.

It's not a matter of fisticuffs, where you have to be face to face with a person.

Unless, of course, you're calling US Special Forces snipers and Air Force bomber pilots, who also don't fight face to face, unprincipled cowards who can't face the consequences.

Oops, kinda shot yourself in the foot there didn't you, troop-hater?

State senators in Wisconsin make $49,943 a year. That's right around a teacher's salary here, so yes it's enough to live off of.

I can't speak for every member of the chamber, but most of them don't have "other jobs", and the wealthy people in this state normally go after higher positions like US Senate (Ron Johnson) or House (former rep Mark Neumann for WI-1)

The media will not indulge such an obvious prank. If the caller meant business enough to be taken seriously and repeatedly interviewed, he would have dressed like a cartoon pimp.

It's quite brilliant if you listen to it. The caller was unprepared and if Walker had asked a couple of questions he could have busted the pranker pretty quickly.

Walker was so desperate to impress Koch though he just starts talking and talking about all of the things they are planning to make sure things go their way. It has zero to do with the budget and everything to do with a union busting movement that is only starting in WI.

A principled person would show up to do their farking job.
The fleebaggers aren't fighting, they are running away and not confronting the issue.

The operative thing here is that not only do they have to get their check in person, but they can only get it in the Senate chamber from the Majority leader. That way, if even one Senator enters the chamber to get his check, they can vote, Walker has said that he will consider there mere presence enough to conduct the vote.

Seems like there may be some legal issue to be explored here, placing a political requirement on collecting your pay.

Is that yours? How droll. "Fleebaggers". It's almost like "teabaggers", but with "flee" at the beginning. Because they're fleeing to prevent a vote to pass a law that their core principles won't let them pass.

Just like Abraham Lincoln. (new window)

I see that you're really pushing hard to make the new Michelle Malkin-created insult "fleebaggers" stick, huh? Amusing really. Reminds me of The People's Cube's valiant effort of labeling liberals as "fisters" to avenge the left calling tea partiers "teabaggers", which of course failed and never caught on. Link (new window)

What you don't seem to realize is that insults don't just become funny if you coin one and try to repeatedly label your enemies as such. The "teabagger" one was funny because the tea partiers themselves coined it without realizing that it was a double entendre. People were mocking their lack of awareness and knowledge in modern slang, not at the phrase itself.

How about:

If you don't work, then you don't get paid. Not now. Not eventually. Fleeing the state to prevent the (probably) inevitable is not "working".

The rules in the US Senate allow filibustering by just saying "We want to filibuster." They don't have to DO anything. You then need 60%. The rules in Wisconsin allow an effective filibuster by not showing up. The rules are the rules, you can't say these people are breaking the rules by using procedures just because you disagree with the rules/procedures you don't like. Otherwise change the rules/procedures.
