The Italians are pretty well involved in the Libyan oil industry. I'm guessing he won't be fleeing to his buddy in Italy then.

Sure glad I filled up the tank the other day. That's 12 gallons I don't have to worry about...

Shortages in crude production takes months to reach your pumps. The skyrocketing fuel prices you are experiencing are from oil companies who are seeking to profit from this.

Subby, you are not the only person who thinks that Gaddafi looks like Carlos Santana, but come-on his name isn't that hard; hell, it's a lot easier to say and spell than that chimp from Iran's name.

Calling B.S. on this. Was this taken from Fox News? The guy has never been a credible threat, and don't you try to sell me on of Glenn Becks retarded chalk-board theory scenarios to prove it. Slow news day already?

just leave the guy alone. Like Saddam, sure he may be considered a nutjob, but he helps keep the other nuts in check. Remember the last attempt at nation building?

so now the speculators are gonna get in on it. Just great.

They export 1.5mbpd but they import .5mbpd so the world market would be losing 1mbpd if they completely stopped exporting.

Not all of it. One of the oil-rich cities is reportedly in control of the opposition. It ain't over yet. They are holding and bracing for his worst.

Which has been pretty brutal. For those who have seen pics of bodies, it's f*cking intense.

/and now a bunch of you will share what you've seen in person or online that is zomg I am totally one-upping you!

Submitter stole my joke from a TF thread yesterday but I think they are also referencing the fact that every news source spells his name differently.

Yes and no. If the oil companies didn't raise the price it would go up almost as fast anyway--arbitrage traders would do the same thing.

If he is following the 12-step program to provoke foreign intervention I think he is on the right track.

Just ask Saddam...oh wait...

The best way to get Western troops into your country is to threaten oil supplies.

fireclown: Nah. It's probably just a bluff. Nobody would really do that kind of thing.

Similar in that a tyrannical dictator is facing certain loss of his country and probably his life, but different in that it's coming from within.

It sounds like he's just saying fark you to everyone and going to hole up and create as much havoc as he can until someone finally kills him. That is if these reports are correct.

Ex-Texan: just leave the guy alone

We are leaving the guy alone. The nation building in the middle east is happening without anyone's help, except maybe Social Media.

See, I'm confused. When I was growing up, Libya was a horrible place that harbored terrorists and Quadaffi - it was spelled with a "Q" at the time - was a horrible man to be despised and hated.

Then like two or three years back I remember reading he was all about reform and had completely turned around the nation and his own global perception.

Now he's a jerk again. Will someone tell me if I'm supposed to hate this guy today or not?

/Never mind...gonna go listen to Abraxas...

Things aren't looking good for him. A significant portion of the military has defected, and the ones who haven't reportedly have very low morale.

2011-02-23 10:09:30 AM
So he's saying "It's me or chaos!", and yet intends to create as much chaos as he can before he goes down? What a hypocrite.

Someone make this guy kick the bucket, fast.

I don't know how Valero markets itself as "American only". You can get a list of all oil imports by company and country from the Department of Energy. Link

We hardly get anything directly from Libya but Valero gets a lot of oil from Algeria and Saudi Arabia for example.
