Yes. It's not like there are a lot of red states where there are a lot of hurricanes, or tornadoes, right? No red state has ever suffered such a natural disaster. God hates the blue states.

Thank God GOES-O and P are already up there, because we would be in serious trouble if they weren't. I guess we're going to have to wait to see Americans killed by the forced negligence of the GOP before Americans learn that these cuts are extremely dangerous and potentially catastrophic.

Just hope it isn't anyone you know who die from the forced negligence of the GOP.

Short-sighted farks. Nothing new there, though -- most of modern "conservatism" seems to be based on ignoring anything longer term than the next quarter's dividends.

But I feel safer knowing that The Pentagon is going to get $3billion worth of spare jet engines that they don't even want, didn't ask for, and have said they'll most likely never use.

To be fair, the GOP didn't have that much luck with hurricanes when they could see them coming.

Is it really that hard to focus your cuts on the areas wasting the most money? Military, Medicaid, Medicare. Not that farking hard, two of those are even standard GOP targets. All these proposals to cut things that don't cost much and provide a lot of benefit for the price are retarded even by politician standards.

What part of "budget cuts are good so long as they only hurt the things that the Democrats support and don't affect my district, because you'll get my federal funding when you pry it from my cold, dead hands" don't you get?

That's fine, defunding the NOAA will kill off many in the red-states and will just ensure 4 more years of Obama.

Maybe the GOP is doing this because these are the same people that claim Global Warming is happening even though all scientific evidence actually points to the contrary and shows that the earth is actually cooling over time.

Or maybe you Fark Libs just want to whargarbl about the Republicans just because you are mad that there is about 10 inches of global warming still on the street that they should be shoveling off.

I stopped watching TV weather years ago at the exact time I found the NWS discussion page for my area. That discussion is pretty much all the TV weathermen use. I've seen them quote whole sections of the discussion on the air as if they came up with it themselves. It is pretty pathetic, especially considering all the work the NWS people put into it.

NOAA alerted the Bush Administration to the likelihood of devastation in New Orleans due to the quickly approaching Hurricane Katrina.

Therefore, NOAA is the reason Bush looked bad over Katrina.

NOAA must be punished.

theorellior: Just out of curiosity, do any of you derptards realize that weather forecasting and hurricane tracking might be relevant to national security and well-being, probably more so than sponsoring NASCAR races?

NASCAR is important to our national identity. It fosters a communal atmosphere and promotes self-esteem among us Tea Party members.

While the Libtard Elite Intelligentsia is sipping their tea as they print money with no regard for the economy and open our borders to terror just for laughs, we get our laughs and entertainment from a sport that emphasizes the important qualities of being poor and stupid. You just wouldn't understand. You aren't poor and stupid enough.

While NASCAR helps our national identity, all these Global Warming hacks are making Americans look ignorant. So we need to get rid of the weather forecasting systems to put a stop to this kind of nonsense. Maybe you libtards should get to work shoveling all that global warming that snowed on the street instead of trying to support the global conspiracy of scientists to destroy the American economy and create a worldwide Hegemony of Social-Idealist Despots.

The GOP's bill would tear $1.2 billion (21 percent) out of the president's proposed budget for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA. On the surface, cutting NOAA may seem like an obvious choice. The FY 2011 request for the agency included a 16 percent boost over 2010 levels that would have made this year's funding level of $5.5 billion the largest in NOAA's history.

So, if they were given a 0% increase for FY2011, the budget would be 4.74 billion. The Republican bill cuts this to 4.3 billion. The monsters obviously want to dismantle our entire weather forecasting system.

You've got to love the author's confusing presentation of the numbers, to make it seem like blocking a huge budget increase is the same thing as gutting the entire NOAA satellite program.

Things the GOP wants to fund:

1) Hobby wars
2) Large giveaways to themselves and their country club buddies
3) A great big hole in the sea and/or desert into which they can pour all the rest of the money so that they can concoct a phony "debt crisis" which they can use to scare people into giving up more and more, which they can then use for 1 and 2.
