I never played GTA. Isn't that how it's supposed to look?

My favorite bit was the little touch on the parked cars starting them moving at exponentially increasing speed.

That's pretty funny.

It starts out 'funny,' slides gradually to 'stupid,' but then continues as 'stupid' so long that it comes back around and becomes 'funny' again

The single pistol shot blowing the parked car across the sidewalk and up against the building: that's how all video games should look.

Has anyone else tried the Simple trainer? It seems like it would make these hacks 1000% simpler..

//nice to be able to spawn virtually every car in the game, etc...

Yeah, I liked FARK before it became a gaming site. Now people like Tatsuma and CanisNoir and LittleBlondJug keep filling up the news stream with invites to WhiskeyVille and asking me for FarkBucks.

Fark's turned into a stupid Facebook clone. I liked it better when it was just sarcastic news links and comment threads.

that part got me too. the kick was cool, the car coming back into his face was epic.

pup.socket: did they change the gravity too, or is it negative by default?

probably just that with a negative friction, the cars are inherently propelled forward by movement, meaning they pick up speed the more they move.

move them once and they are constantly increasing speed. it wouldn't take much to launch them through the air.

2011-02-20 08:12:59 PM
Negative friction was good for a laugh in Quake, too.

Is there a patch that makes things more interesting? In previous games you'd often see carjackings, people would try to carjack you, you'd wander across gangs fighting, police fighting gangs, cars being chased by copcars, various stuff like that. In IV everything is downright boring besides the occasional street fight. I'd play through again if there was a patch to liven things up.

2011-02-20 09:19:06 PM
Oh no... This is exactly the kind of shiat that makes me lose hours/days on games. I have work to do tonight. I hope I can resist the lure of trying this...

For those who like to goof around in GTA rather than playing "normally", I've found you can walk up and shove cars and frequently (always with cabs) get the driver to get out and attack you. BUT, the cops don't consider you the aggressor so will arrest the driver.

Even better: run away from the pissed off driver and stand on the other side of someone so when the drive tries to punch you, they punch the innocent bystander. The two will begin to brawl and forget about you.

Even better than that: stand on the other side of a cop so HE gets punched while you walk away blameless.

I've managed to arrange it so entire streets of people are fighting in every direction, cars on fire, etc. but no wanted level at all.

In real life I tend to make decisions carefully; in GTA I have a complete and utter lack of the vaguest form of impulse control and get in lots and lots of trouble, usually involving mass destruction, but occasionally just me getting Niko killed by, for example, driving a motorcycle off the roof of a skyscraper to see if I can survive the landing, or something similarly insane.

Takes me forever to finish missions because of this, but I have fun. One of the reasons I love sandbox games like this, but don't enjoy "on the rails" games like Dragon Age nearly as much.

More people and cars in liberty (new window)
plus the great cheat codes:

Pedestrians riot 555-891-0011
aaaand
Strippers Strip 468-555-0100

make for a pretty amusing time.

Then again, what wouldn't?

What you're complaining about frankly sounds like gimmicks. I guess I don't consider that stuff to be important. I love the quality and diversity of the missions, the great characters, and the amazing story.

Even the smaller details - Internet, random characters met on the street, friend activities, etc - more than make up for the lack of NPC car jackings.
