I don't really care for any of the breeds in this slideshow. Maybe aside from the beagle and St. Bernard.

Nice reference, subby. Now let's see some pictures of Parker Posey in here. Unfortunately I am at work, or I would post some.

I'm going to assume you didn't see the picture of the Pekingese. I'll allow no slandering of the noble Peke in my presence.

Although the ones at dog shows don't look anything like real-life Pekes.

The Puppy Bowl slideshow was much cuter.

Parker the corded Poodle rocks. His owner said everyone treated him like a rock star, and he ate it up.

FWIW we rarely see corded Poodles here because the coat is tough to maintain. In Europe they're far more common.

Oh, and "You're going to show Winky."

I do like the big dogs. The St Bernard, the Great Pyrenees and the Bernese Mountain Dog are all beauties in my book.

/Has a Golden Retriever, a Boxer/Chow mix, twin Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd pups, and a 12 lb Rat Terrier whose the boss of all of them.

Pekingese? Really? You are a fan of the dog that is too brachycephalic and fat to waddle for more than a few feet in a show ring and groomed so you can't tell if it's coming or going?

In a completely unrelated question, is it true that people tend to resemble their dogs after prolonged ownership?

My husband will be a blubbering mess when we lose him. Frodo sticks to him like Velcro. Consider his nose beeped when I get home.

Town Called Bumpass: Pekingese? Really? You are a fan of the dog that is too brachycephalic and fat to waddle for more than a few feet in a show ring and groomed so you can't tell if it's coming or going?

Brachycephalic? Absolutely. Every Peke is. Fat? Only if you overfeed. I have an open bowl for my two Pekes, and they're both in great shape. And like I said, the show dogs don't look anything like a Peke in real life.

As far as that "can't run more than a few feet" thing, if you're looking for a workout, I'll let my seven-year-old female Peke off the leash and you can try to catch her. They're not going to go with you on your daily jog, of course, but it's not like they're helpless, either.

I'm obviously kidding about the "No disparaging Pekes" comment. To each his own. But every breed has some drawbacks. Pekes can have eye issues, usually snore, and are shedding machines, but they're also affectionate, great apartment dogs, smart but stubborn, and born clowns. I love 'em.

I absolutely did. I can only speak for my dogs though. My dogs come from German Sieger lines and American show lines that were carefully selected to make excellent companion dogs. The ones you know might be their own grandpas, crippled and raving lunatics. It's disappointing that the genetic disasters you obliquely refer to have become the example of the breed to the uneducated.

So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy.
