...Wait, what?

2011-02-15 09:40:30 PM
So, the number of people who believe that weed should be legal keeps rising, yet no lawmakers are among that group.

Wonder why? The people who control their purse strings stand to lose too much, perhaps?

2011-02-15 09:42:40 PM
There is only one poll that matters.

2011-02-15 09:44:04 PM
When will people realize that these polls mean NOTHING because come vote time, all the people that were against it the whole time come out and just vote against it rather than biatch and moan beforehand.

/I don't care if it's legalized, I'd vote for it if I could.
//In reality there are more people that disagree, obviously.

2011-02-15 09:44:31 PM
Clearly, these people are not True Americans.

2011-02-15 09:44:32 PM
yet a majority of people surveyed probably would object to the decriminalization/legalization of all drugs, which is exactly what we farking need

So if it becomes legalized, will I as a truck driver be able to use it?

If not, you don't get my support.

Of course not while you are driving. Whether or not you can use it in your off time should be up to you and your employer.

If it's handled the same way as alcohol, as an intoxicating substance, I can't see why you'd want to operate a truck while using it.

Seems just irresponsible.

Because old people vote and I am routinely the only person in their late 20s at the polls when I go to the polls. That is the only reason. Likely voters is a different story.

No. I'm fairly certain truck drivers should not be allowed nice things, by law.

As a truck driver, my weight, sleeping, blood pressure, drug use, etc is scrutinized. So no, even off duty I won't be able to smoke it.

So, fark all of you. If I can't use it, I'll vote against it every farking time.

I think he means just having it in his system, not being intoxicated. I think most places have a policy that they will drug test employees who get in an accident on the job, regardless of who's at fault. If they find pot in your system you're usually farked; they may even feel justified in accusing you of being intoxicated at the time of the accident.

How, then, can we police this new system, since THC can cause a positive drug test result for weeks after your last use, while alcohol's evidence would be gone in less than a day. In other words, how would you prove that the driver is high right now as opposed to last night?

You chose to go into that profession. If you don't like the consequences of the career you went into, don't take it out on everyone else. If you want to smoke pot so bad, go into some other line of work. If you don't want to smoke pot, then why do you care if others do?

I don't see what your profession has to do with it; unless you're asking can you use it while you drive (or drive high) which is an obvious "no." We're not going to legalize driving drunk either I'm sure you'll be bummed to hear.

In theory yes. Even after immediate consumption, the ability to operate motor vehicles is not significantly compromised. If you can smoke cigarettes while driving, you should be able to smoke a joint. The National Transportation Safety Board has proven people with the full-Thanksgiving-Turkey stone going on have no criminally-significant motor vehicle operation impairment. The government has scientifically proven that you only drive like an Arizona retiree when stoned.

Either find a way to date the metabolites you find in the drug test or have procedure for a motor skills test right after the accident. Just because there's no way to prove someone was smoking pot after an accident is no reason not to legalize it. People can get in an accident because they are too tired and there's no drug test for that. Someone could have been taking prescription pain killers a day or two before an accident and there's no way to prove they were on them at the time of the accident. Marijuana is not alone in being hard to determine when the drug was ingested.

I know a guy, who can claim this exact thing. His motor skills aren't compromised when smoking the chiba, and has driven before, during, and after smoking. Now, not like "omg wtf is going on" type baked and driving, but not sober.

A sobriety test focused on dexterity, reaction time, and judgement rather than just chemically checking for particular metabolites?

When it comes time to vote, only 49% will vote to legalize it because the other "supporters" will have some stupid farking problem with how the proposition is written, as they did in California. And so because it will never be PERFECT, thousands and thousands of lives will continue to be ruined and millions of dollars wasted because people who SUPPORT LEGALIZATION will still vote AGAINST it for their own stupid reasons.

Yeah, but that's just because of the liability problems your employer has because you drive a truck for him. Weed being legal doesn't mean you can drive stoned. Actually, if you are ok on all the other metrics, he can't bust you for just having been stoned in the past, so the piss test would probably go away.

Vote for it next time it comes up. If it makes you feel better, think of it as a tax on the patchouli smelling, white man dreadlock wearing bio hazards who come out of the woodwork only when the Dave Mathews Band is in town.

I used to work for a drug testing company. THC can stay in the system for 30+ days. If he smokes on a day off, and thirty days later he gets in a wreck on the job, he automatically has to go in for a drug test. If THC shows up in his system AT ALL, his insurance company will likely refuse to cover the claim, and his company will at best put him on probation, if not fire him.

That being said, him using his career choice as an excuse to prevent other people from smoking pot is pretty selfish, and he knows it.
