It's not like there would be drugs or anything at a record awards event.

BraveNewCheneyWorld: SomethingWitty84: Personally, if and only if she is attractive do I feel sorry for her.

I'd feel bad for her either way, but I think I have a higher level of sympathy than I normally would, probably because she's attractive.

Wouldn't it be the other way around? I mean to feel more sympathetic to someone that is unattractive since the attractive person still has the looks, but the unattractive person has the double whammy.

Sarcastica75: KatjaMouse: I was wondering if you were inquiring as I've actually known people who were convinced that strokes are ailments that only the elderly suffer. As for her age, not sure. She looks rather young, perhaps her 30s.

Thanks for assuming I was inquiring for an ignorant, retarded reason.

The station has issued a statement (new window) that she didn't have a stroke, wasn't hospitalized, and is fine. So with relief, I went to watch the video again to fully partake of the lulz I've been squelching for the past couple of hours.

But I couldn't. I'm sorry, but there is something something wrong with that chick. That wasn't a flubbed line--her synapses turned to Cheez Whiz.

I see it like 2 works of art, the ugly one that hangs on parents' refrigerators, and the pretty one that hangs in a museum. I see the pretty one as the more tragic loss.

FWIW paramedics cannot give clotbusters drugs in the field. The best we can do is a FAST trip to the nearest stroke center.

i'm going with somebody else saying it was a panic attack if not a stroke, the person isn't breathing and the brain basically goes into panic mode whilst you're exhaling to talk, essentially it's like somebody giving a speech whilst simultaneously their brain thinks they're "drowning" so-to-speak, gibberish is going to come out

I call bullsh*t on this Twitter account of "hers". It's too much of a coincidence that "she" just set it up after this happened, in response to her on-air whaargarbling.

It's a shame to see that happen to such a beautiful woman. If it had been an ugly black person, then I wouldn't have minded so much. But, beautiful women command our chivalrous need to care for them. And, anyone who makes fun of this stroke or her or any beautiful woman can answer to my fists.

There. Maybe that will earn her respect, and she'll want to sleep with me.

She's at the Grammys.

The Grammys finished up almost two hours before her moment on the news.

There are LOTS of musicians, roadies, groupies, and hangers-on at the event.

Paramedics evaluated her and decided she was okay. That doesn't mean she's fine, it means she seemed fine afterwards. She should definitely take that video to a doctor and run a bunch of tests. If not a stroke, it could be a brain tumor causing temporary episodes of confusion.

BadAdviceGuy: Sge looks too young to be having a stroke. While the symptoms of having a stroke are commonly known, usually if you're under the age of 50 you should really just have some fluids and then rest. If you feel the same way a few days later then that's the time to contact a doctor.

I was just about to comment that your reply sounds like the wrong answer on the multiple choice CPR exam. Then I saw your username. Funny stuff.

KatjaMouse: Sarcastica75: How old is she?

Like that matters. The son of a family friend had a stroke at 19 while he was in the middle of a snowball fight. His friends kept piling snow on him until they realized he wasn't moving and then called for help. I think it turned out that it was a bit of plaque in his bloodstream that caused it.

/Learned to talk again about a year after the incident

It can happen at any age. The 8 year old son son of my brother's housekeeper had a stroke last month. He cannot communicate and is crying and whimpering almost constantly. He is terrified and so are his parents. His prognosis is totally unknown at this point.

Fine my ass. There's stumbling over lines, there's having a panic attack, then there's delivering syllables with perfectly normal timing and rhythm that sound like absolute random-neural-firing gibberish.

I hope someone takes a good, careful look at her brain. The few seconds I could stomach were scary.

That was not just a flub of lines. That was some kind of neurological event. I sure hope she doesn't ignore it. Whether it was a TIA, seizure, or full-blown ischemic stroke, I don't know. Ignoring it would be as bad as ignoring "an elephant sitting on your chest!"

My guess, from the stations statement, is that she has already had this problem previously and is under a neurologist's care.

jamspoon: PsyLord: omahatattoo: She's an attractive woman and I feel sorry for her.

So if she was unattractive, you wouldn't feel sorry for her?

omahatattoo's sentence contains two statements "She's an attractive woman" and "I feel sorry for her". These statements are not of necessity connected, although his placement of them in a single sentence may be intended to indicate a connection. My suspicion is that he has done this deliberately in order to suggest a connection, a studied intention sometimes know as trolling. Alternatively he could be acknowledging that by finding her attractive he is likely to feel a greater empathy towards her and therefore greater sorrow at her distress.

Incidentally the corollary to omahatattoo's statement is that she is unattractive OR that he is not sorry for her. Your statement leaves aside the options of her being attractive and omahatattoo not being sorry for her, or her being unattractive and omahatattoo still feeling sorry for her.

I may have intentionally connected my statements as you have described. I would probably side with SomethingWitty84 and only feel sorry for her because she is attractive though.

Your link simply says her vital signs were fine and she wasn't hospitalized. That doesn't mean she didn't have a TIA or a small seizure. It just means she didn't have a massive stroke.

dagger75: I had a stroke at the ripe old age of 33. Small blood clot went through a small hole (PFO for the medical peeps here) that had opened up in my heart. It was very scary. All better now after surgery.

My father in law (65) has had two strokes. He was born with an atrial septal defect (ASD) which has since been repaired. It turns out that not all people who have strokes have an ASD, but nearly all people with an ASD have strokes.

Watch this when you get a chance, it is incredible.

Jill Bolte Taylor got a research opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: She had a massive stroke, and watched as her brain functions -- motion, speech, self-awareness -- shut down one by one. An astonishing story. (new window)

What an incredible story. I love getting linked to TED presentations, I know they're always going to be well worth the watch.

Thanks

Update on Serene:

Serene Branson was examined by paramedics on scene immediately after her broadcast. Her vital signs were normal. She was not hospitalized. As a precautionary measure, a colleague gave her a ride home and she says that she is feeling fine this morning.

I think the most important moral issue here concerns the effect said gibberish would have on a sexual partner at the height of orgasm. Would it heighten the feeling? Would the increase in intensity so impact the orgasmer that he/she could no longer enjoy sex without their partner engaging in scat singing?

Careful, it's a horribly slippery slope. I now have to strangle myself on TOP of making sure my wife is scat singing in order to orgasm.
