I think I liked Praise Cheesus' better.

I hope it's 'shopped. Can't imagine trying to lick that off.

Another question: What is everybody's favorite brand/type of cat treats? I went to Menards for some supplies for my metalsmithing class, and found these:

Evel likes these hard ones (Petco)

gwendolyyyn: I started my puppy (Kalinka)on Science Diet and then had to switch to Purina due to money problems. She was 16 when we had to say good-bye. We also adopted a mature dog(Snuffy)from the SPCA and after trouble with diarrea (sp?) I switched to a formula with no grains,ie corn, wheat etc. He was with us for 10 years. Daily walks of course, they loved it.

Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: For over a year now, a black cat has been hanging around my den....*snip*
Encroaching Midnight

Sounds like Midnight has come to an agreement and an Arrangement with your cats (and your good self!).

Misha (who now does Alpha-cat duty by the Bridge) came to a similiar Arrangement with an elderly gentleman who lived next door to us.
I found out about this by accident one day (during a rare break between work-and-college).
Misha was meowing the "Open the door, please" meow (but not at our door), so I went out to check/see what was going on.

An old man opened the door in the house next to us and greeted my cat- "Good morning, Blackie! Are you hungry?"

Misha sat up on his hind legs to meet the man's petting half-way, then he followed him inside.
It was obvious from the ease and friendliness they displayed with each other that this wasn't the first time they'd met. They probably sat down to coffee and noms and a good gossip and scritches.

About half an hour later Misha came back out, licking his chops. I took the opportunity to ask the man if Misha (aka 'Blackie') had been bothering him.

"No, not at all!" Misha (a sociable, outgoing, very chatty fellow) usually came by every morning for a visit and a chat (and a snack!). It was obvious that this was something that both of them enjoyed very much.

This is what I meant by an Arrangement.

reddot, Olive loves The Goodlife Recipe treats, but I've yet to try the catnip variety. I actually saw an ad for the catnip kind for the first time yesterday.

sherpa18: I_Am_Weasel: Y'know, commas matter.
There is a distinct different between "Milk, the cat" and "Milk the cat".

/the only problem with your suggestion is that it is not grammatically correct when taken in context with how the headline was phrased
//if i had said "milk, the cat who lost the tip of her tail after being caught in a car engine is recovering nicely just in time for Caturday" the comma would have been appropriate
///which may have been a better headline
////whatever

wouldn't it be "milk, the cat who lost the tip of her tail, is recovering nicely just in time for caturday"?

fotodork: as this is my first fark post, i dont really know what to do here, but i thought id share a picture of my kitteh of almost 17 yrs for caturday.
due to her advanced age and worsening health, we decided to ease her suffering and have her euthanized 2 days ago.
she meant alot to my family and i, as i got her when she was but a few weeks old.

hug your kittehs everyday because one day, you might not be so lucky to get furry hugs.
thanks for listening.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

catmandu,I right-clicked the baby ocelot also. Some are just irresistible!
dr.zaeus, again, I went back to the pg where The Cat Who Lives With You's pix are, to study paws & body type. Thought maybe part either Maine Coon or Wegie, but fur's not long enough nor are there tufts between the toes. It may figure, I'm watching the almost-all-day-Caturday on Animal Planet; plus there are 3 part-MCs who live here with us. She (based on calico-ness) does appear to be a generally large, solid, muscular cat.
Oh yeah, I back-scrolled to find who brought the heart-tails & saw it was Spinach Gunk. Well done, nice pic for the howliday (sic)!

Catfood...
I've been giving my clowder Diamond Active Cat (new window).
It's easier on the wallet than IAMS or Science Diet, but it's a high-quality food...no corn, wheat or soy.

They've been on the Active Cat formula and for the most part they're doing splendidly.

To be completely honest, Esme's kidney's aren't as happy in their work as they used to be...
but she's also 12+ years old.
We're nippin' this thing in the bud and hope to have her around for a good while longer yet.

OTOH, my Alpha male Misha (who got the same food) was 14+ when he was unexpectedly hustled off to the Bridge*, and (aside from a few twinges in the hinges and starting to have a bit of difficulty sticking the dismounts without deploying...er...landing gear) he was in perfect health.

* sad story...let's just leave it at "shiat happens" (it wasn't illness), mm'K?

My wife was buying some high end healthy cat treats for almost $4 for a 4oz bag. I mentioned that boneless chicken thighs typically are on sale for around $1.50/lb and the cats would probably like that better. I tried itand they did. I now just buy a bunch on sale, bag/freeze them in little zip lock bags and grill them a few at a time as cat treats. Only two of them like the treats/chicken. The others seem happy with kibble and ignore anything else I try to give them.

They also love steak.

Yesterday I took my two 17-year-old fuzzballs to the vet, their first visit in a few years (I know, my bad) to experience the joys of being poked, prodded, jabbed, and being UFIA'd with a thermometer.

i220.photobucket.com

Flashlight, who prompted the appointment, hasn't been eating as much lately, shriveling from a 13-lb. chunk down to a relatively puny seven. She also has not been grooming herself.

i220.photobucket.com

Cinema may be the picture of health, but I felt she was due for a look-see. She's had a lifelong heart murmur, but now she apparently has one kidney going south.

Both cats have had their blood drawn and results should be forthcoming in a few days. I'm hoping the prognosis is good.

As far as treats go....We discovered that two out of my five can't tell the difference between their dry food and treats. They look at the dry food bowl and go "meh!", but toss it to them one bit at a time and it's like manna from heaven. The other three aren't falling for it.

Hi! I am coming out of lurking now! These are my new babies from a rescue, I named them Ein and Ed. Ed has diff colored eyes and is stone deaf! I was originally looking for kittens, but got there and just had to have these guys, they had been there awhile and I wanted them to have a home! Didnt quite think white cats through, as most of my wardrobe is black, but eh , who cares!

My grandparents had a white cat with one blue and one green eye. For years, my grandfather was convinced the cat was deaf. Turned out, the cat could hear on one side, but tended to ignore everyone.

/discovered the cat could hear the day my parents brought me home from the hospital
//according to gran, the first time I screamed, the cat looked right at me
//grandpa's reaction: "Gotcha, ya dang faker"

I wondered that, the vet said he was deaf and we sort of tested it a bit. Noises don't wake him, When I get my hairdryer out and use it, his brother runs for upstairs, and he sits there watching me, same with the vaccuum. I have been captioning them on facebook as my deaf cat, and his brother who is not deaf, but ignores you anyway.

Yay! Caturday!

We just adopted Sheppie from VOKRA (Vancouver Orphaned Kitten Rescue Association) last week. She's 3 months, and both extremely affectionate and a hellion! She disarms us with snuggles and then pounces. Keeps us on our toes.

farm6.static.flickr.com

Here she is, being a brat to Pushkin, our 12 year old (who is amazingly patient with her):

i73.photobucket.com
*bop* *phbbbbt*

Pushkin lost his life partner last year, our 21-year-old kitty who we had to put down, and he had been very depressed and clingy since then. Since Sheppie came along, he's extremely playful, a lot more independent and generally happier and more active than he had been since the old girl passed away. We had known he needed another playmate, but we hadn't realized just how badly! He's come back to life. :) Sheppie absolutely adores him, following him around and pouncing him or mimicking his actions. So cute.

We have a non-functioning fireplace, and I asked the lady who delivered the cats to us about maybe blocking it off, she said her cats never go into hers, so should be fine. Ed went in it the first night I had them, I got up in the morning to a white cat and a grey cat.

they are gorgeous! I use to have a white cat and wore quite a bit of black. Invest in a lint brush....or 10!

The deaf thing is an interesting thing to deal with, my white cat was also deaf. He was more like a dog than a cat. He would walk on a leash, would walk maybe 1/2 a mile with me (did till that till we were attacked by a dog). He lived to over 20 years old, he was my cat from hell. Been gone almost 8 years now.

This is when we lived in Atlanta, circa 1990-1992 (he was somewhere between 7&9 at that time)
