When I was a kid one of our neighbor's kittens got in my dad's engine and got a good chunk of it's tail lopped off. Our neighbor didn't even take the kitten to the vet, he just cared for it at home. His daughter had called the kitten "kitty boo", but they changed it to "stubby"

This is Clementine. She spent several days trapped in a stack of large round hay rolls (each roll weighs around 750 pounds), her back foot tangled in the baling twine. She was trapped in a place where we couldn't get the bobcat in to move the hay. We couldn't reach her, either. My husband used a metal pipe to pry the rolls apart enough to reach down and cut all the twine, in hopes of cutting the one she was tangled in. She finally crawled through a tunnel toward me, I had to squeeze part way through the tunnel to reach her scruff to keep her from falling between the rolls. When we finally freed her, she clung to me and purred. Her back right foot is permanently damaged, the vet said she may have to have it removed some day. But, for right now, she's taking her medicine and enjoying life as a spoiled house-cat. Her "friend", the cow-dog, takes good care of her and even lets her snuggle in his dog-bed.

toonieroonie: she weighs 9 pounds so I don't think I'm going to go for one of those 6'+ models lest she knock it over with a crazy jump.

I have a tall kitty condo that I got at PetSmart my two 9 pound and 15 pound cats have never knocked it it over. In fact I have two condos and my guys routinely jump from one to the other, so I wouldn't worry about that.

First, a question for all of you:

I'm having my Kaylee spayed on Wednesday (I missed the mark by a week, I got to experience cat in heat a few days ago), and I was hoping some Caturday people could give me an idea of what to expect. I know that I need shredded newspaper instead of litter for 10 days, but other than that the vet didn't really give me any helpful hints.

And now, here are a couple blanks of my own engine kitty! I found her under my hood when she was 4 weeks old, now she's 6 months and doing great. As always, captions appreciated :)

Now reached ft of pg 3, after all of what I typed at ft of pg 2 was deleted by Ginger Sr Editing Cat removing me from pg 2. Not taking gd, or indeed much of any, notes, so can't really thank those who've posted Good Stuff & Pix so far. Except:
CB & domari, sorry the wee grey guy's prospects don't look promising (pg 2 I think). As you said, pls prevent such as much as possible by Spay & Neuter.
I did find the obit notice in sports; natch, the mods greenlit the one with the 3 spelling errors because subby typed, in Fark headline, Checkerd flag at half staff (sic) followed by legandary annoucer. annoucer coulda been a typo. Believe I said there were 4 submissions, guy was so famous & truly a legend in his own time (not in his own mind at all) mods had to pick one of 'em.
Now back to cats full time, with a pic:

Neither a real cat, nor an LOLcat, but something I saw in a sales e-mail (e-mail only) from Signals. It's a bit pricey & El Spouse says No you can't have one, but since I did right-clicky I do have a pic, & that'll do.

hey y'all, happy caturday. It's been a while since I've been around these parts. my fingers have been spending far too much time around a snow shovel handle and the controls of my snow blower. I actually played my guitar for the first time this year, last night. Been having a stupid cold and snowy winter. The stuff piled in my yard is actually higher than it was in '95/'96 when we had a new record. Been too cold to melt.

The bitter coldness brings about the story of Lloyd, the popsicle kitty. He was found frozen stiff on the porch of an area woman, who brought him to the emergency room of the Animal Hospital of Nashua. He was so cold, they could not even get a temperature. They warmed him up and administered IVs, etc. He had frost bite on his ears, around his nose and on the pads of his paws. The skin in those places necrotized and had to be removed. Thousands were spent, to kennel him and change his bandages many times a day. He now has a forever home with one of the technicians.

This is why I could never be a vet or animal tech. I'd end up adopting every one I could. It is also a reason why it is important to keep your pets indoors during extreme cold. People seem to think "Oh, cats have fur coats and can find shelter anywhere they need to." Obviously this is not true.

Binx is sleeping on my bed, she is exhausted from the tedious duty of playing with her hooman and eating gushy fuuds, and after suffering the indignity of sitting on my lap, kneading my stomach. Just kidding, she loves it. On the topic of milk, she has recently made it known that she desires moo juice. One night, I was watching TV and got a snack of cookies with a glass of 2% milk. The glass was on the end table beside my tv watching chair. Darned if the little bugger didn't jump up on the table. I look over, to see a little face buried in my, oh excuse me, her glass of milk, happily lapping away.

Now, if she hears the cookie jar being opened, or the tell tale rattle of Pepperidge Farms cookies packages being opened, she comes running to the end table where she waits for her share of the milk. I only give her barely enough to taste, she is after all elderly and I don't want to upset her digestive system. Almost every night now, she's looking for her treat. She'll only drink it if she's looking for it, if you offer it unrequested, it gets ignored.

SweetBecca: Where to start. This is going to be so very unbelievable, but trust me, its true.

Two days ago, my husband and I were at the mall. Our local Humane Society has a annex there. I didn't want to go in, but my Husband said it wouldn't hurt to look.

We were looking at the cats, I looked down, and in the bottom row of cages, was CHLOE!! I did a double take, looked at the card they had attached to the cage. It had my address where she was found. Son of a biatches!

I went to the desk, and demanded to talk to the person in charge. They called the main shelter, and I talked to them. I was pissed. Remember, they told me they euthanized her? When I was done ranting and raving with them, they checked paperwork, ect., and come to find out, it was a Calico named CLEO that was euthanized. NOT CHLOE!

It has been 2 weeks now that Chloe has been in that cage waiting to be adopted. I told them I wanted Chloe and I wanted her NOW! They told me that she had been adopted and the family was coming in at 10 a.m. to get her the next day. I raised hell again, and told them I had said I wanted her. I was the one who fed her and kept her warm while she was out in the freezing cold. They apologized and offered me any cat or kitten I wanted at no charge. Now I was really pissed. So, I left, and decided that I would be at the HS at 10 the next day. I was determined to get Chloe.

The family showed up a little after 10, and so help me god, it was a young couple with 2 little kids. The kids were probably around 8 and 5 maybe. I just kind of hung back, trying to decide if I wanted to pursue this any farther, and when they took Chloe out of the cage, and I saw her with the kids, and how excited they were, I just couldn't do it.

I'm still in tears as I type this, but it is good to know that Chloe is going to a forever home with someone who will love her, and I am sure she will bring alot of joy to the kids.

I'm not ready to get another cat yet, and will just love up the one I have. Someday maybe.

Wow. That's quite a tale. I guess you did the 'right' thing letting the family w/the 2 little kids have Chloe, but jeez, that must've been hard.

At ft of pg 4 at last, read SweetBecca's tale/tail of lucky rescue. Chloe lives! Yay Huzzah!! Even tho with somebody else, where it does sound as if she'll have a good & loving home.
Also on pg 4, dr.zaeus/'s chubby calico, captioned by yobbery, looks as if she could stand to go on a diet. Sorry, but even Ginger the Sr Editing Cat at 18 lb isn't that chubby!

Perhaps I oughta resume editing off The Stripe, since they deleted all the pix Dixie_Normous had there (no longer recall on what pg that was said). End of thread on next pg? Can I be that lucky??

Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: I also was able to get a couple of photos of it before it went out the door. My kitty Marmalade is seen in the first photo. Click to enlarge

The following night, it let me pick it up and I confirmed that it's an neutered male, which explains its lack of aggression toward the other cats and suggests that it is or was somebody's pet.

My cat Neko has a similar story. He just showed up outside my house one day. Neutered male, loves attention and was obviously someone's pet. I took him in hoping to find his owner. I put up posters and posted on lost pet sites and never found his owner.

He cleverly started posing in cute places, fetching and carrying stuff around and we were forced to keep him.

While that had to be really tough for you to go through, take solace in the fact that without you, she may never have even survived to find a furever home. Maybe you could leave your name and number with the HS just in case the adoption does not work out?

She can't smell anything :-(

I think that's part of her problem after spending a while in an animal shelter. She started climbing in my lap last night and seems to like attention so she's slowly coming around. My wife took her on a tour of the house last night and she was pretty curious but obviously I'm not letting her roam with the rest of the cat herd (7**) till she's better.

** I've got a 2600 sq ft all tile house. I'm not a crazy hoarder. Seriously, stop looking at me like that!!!

I would think maybe that's a good sign?

It's great that she's holding her weight. The tube, although minimally invasive, causes problems in that they begin to enjoy the feedings and need to be persuaded to return to eating on their own. Alice would lay on mom's lap and purr and smack her lips as she was being fed. It was referred to as mom-nom quality time.

I guess they enjoy the fact that it's one less reason to get out of bed? Why chew when you don't have to?

Love the Lab playing the piano! My vet recommends a low fat diet for my Lab. gwendolyyyn: Check with the vet for recommendations but keep in mind that quality dog food produces less problems in the future. Remember to walk the dog for a good distance every day.

I second what predle said, Merlin used to weigh in at close to 20 lbs, (not fat, just a really big cat) and he never even came close to knocking down either the 4' or 6' condos I had at the time. Usually the larger the cat tree/condo is, the heavier the base is to provide stability.

Also, patience is important. Every time I bought a new cat tree, it usually took a few weeks for them to start using it. And once they get used to it, forget ever getting rid of it. (One of my current ones is almost 20 years old, carpet has been completely torn off the lower ledges, it looks like crap, and Dragon loves it.

/although he told me he might consider letting me get rid of it for something like this:

Yep, that's why I want to make sure he starts off not eating crap!
Our vet recommended science diet for our cats, but I didn't know if the same brand is good for puppy food too.

Oh and trust me, my parents last dog got nice walks every day, in the morning by me, evening by them, and playtime pretty much all day with my grandpa!
