Luna said her grandson and three friends had stopped at a dealership Saturday afternoon in one of the world's most-dangerous cities, after spotting a car with wheel rims that caught their eye.

Know how I know you're stupid? Because you choose your car based on the RIMS.

Oh, and also going to a highly dangerous city.

They make the car go faster.

There are tons of beautiful and relatively safe places in Mexico.

Juarez just happens to be the opposite of beautiful and safe. It's like Mexico's third world version of Detroit. Except instead of cars they have drugs.

It's only a hole near the US border where the failed war on drugs has created powerful and violent drug cartels.

Silly teens, it's the last days of May, not the first days of February...

Parched land no desert sand, sun was just a dot
And a little bit of water goes a long way, 'cause it's hot
Three good buddies were laughing and smoking in the back
Of a rented ford
They couldn't know they weren't going far

Each one with the money in his pocket
Could go out and buy himself a brand new car
But they all had the money they had
Money they hoped would take them very far

For nearly 20 years I went to Mexico to dive in Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Baja at least two sometimes four times a year. It was a wonderful place, great people, good prices, good food, great diving. Never in the interior except going through Mexico City airport.

The last time was in 2000. There was a cartel related shooting at Senor Frog in Cancun (CANCUN!!!) while I was in CZM. There was a skirmish across the channel at Playa Del Carmen.

I couldn't get out of there fast enough and will never go back. So sad for the wonderful people of Mexico. So sad.

Mexico could be such a rich country and the people could be so prosperous if they could just get their shiat together. Two long, beautiful coastlines. they could be the vacation capital of the world, if you like oceans.

I don't worry about being a target, just being in the cross-fire.

Never again, or maybe if the government ever gets control of the situation.

If Medina is still in charge of the El Paso office of ICE, will someone please transfer him. He used to run ICE for Arizona and refused to take illegal aliens arrested by local law enforcement. To reward him for his wonderful service, he was transferred to El Paso.

Maybe he could oversee immigration on Catalina Island or Attu. I pity the poor Catalinians or Attutians.

My brother wants to take a trip down to central/southern Mexico sometime this summer, and to take me with him. I love to travel, and I love history, and southern and central Mexico has some interesting stuff to see. However, I'd rather not get murdered during my visit.

My brother insists that it's northern Mexico that's having all the issues.

Is the whole of Mexico really unsafe for tourists at the moment, or is it safe to visit certain parts?

Oh, and too bad about what happened to the kids. :/

Still, it's their own fault for going to Ciudad Juarez I suppose, despite the fact that at least one of them ACTUALLY FARKING LIVED in that shiathole through no fault of his own.

I was troubled by the response as well. Hell, 16 year-olds are not known for their amazingly wise choices or their ability not focus on shiny objects.

It is truly sad, both the loss of human life and the response to that loss.

There's a difference between jesting about a tragedy and mocking the victims and Fark usually manages to not cross that line. The former is tasteless and offensive to many people, but meant only as dark humor. The latter is just dillweeds with Fark accounts who spend all their time in the basement inhaling Cheetohs dust and swilling Mountain Dew trying to make themselves feel better by mocking the people in a story they didn't bother to read and don't understand.

This thread has brought out the dillweeds, for whatever reason.

If you live in El Paso, going to Juarez is like going downtown in most other cities. Downtown, like close to the skyscaper wannabees.

Juarez is a frontier city. As in the southwestern US, there is a second border about 20-60 miles inside the country. Mexico even has special license plates for the frontier border territory.

Together, Juarez and El Paso have many more people than all of Sarah Palin's adopted state.

At least, for the parents, they know what happened to them. I'm sure it's more painful to have them disappeared.

Agreed - you fall off a carpark because you're texting while you're walking then you're fair game and the situation has an inevitable feeling of black comedy about it. That goes double if you fly across the atlantic to have some inject liquid silicon into your arse - you really are begging to be laughed at in death.

You leave the house one morning in the town where you live and stop to look at a used car lot and get shot to farking pieces? Not so farking funny.

The three kids could actually be working for a cartel.

It's not uncommon for 15-year old kids to work for the cartel as drivers or spotters.

That work actually includes getting cheap getaway vehicles.
