El Morro: That was just depressing.

I was going to join in with the sarcasm and snark and to point at the idiots and laugh.

But I can't. That was just so incredibly sad to watch. Ugh.

I admit I couldn't watch the entire video. Sad and scary.

A long run for the office, then two years in the Oval office and you still can't convince the Iowans Iowanians Iowegians dumbasses in Iowa that your a Christian.
Who is failing here Jack? The stupid or those who are supposed to be smart enough to lead them. They will always be stupid until he stops failing.

If you tell someone the earth is round, show them photos and videos of the round earth, point out evidence and experiments that suggest the earth is round, show them models of the solar system and explain gravity and the formation of the solar system and they still think the earth is flat... it's not your fault.

downpaymentblues: bartink: Two random groups, same question, except one group the question indicates the president supports the action.

This would be easy to do. There are many quotes from Boehner and Obama that are nearly identical.

Show one group the video of the quote from Boehner and ask them if they agree, then the same quote from Obama.

You know what would happen, but it would be nice to see it concretely demonstrated.

Or just wait until the GOP Primaries and listen to Romney explain how Mittcare = Good and Obamacare = Bad when they're the exact same farking thing, which is the exact same farking thing the Dole trotted out in 1996 that GOP voters turned out in droves to vote for.

Gee, and we wonder why the GOP is constantly trying to de-fund education...

Tyee: The stupid or those who are supposed to be smart enough to lead them. They will always be stupid until he stops failing.

Yes, the guy that gets up in the Morning to Fox and Friends, reads his local Rupert Murdoch newspaper, heads to work where he reads nothing but American "Thinker"/Big Government/Freeperland/Insert Conservative Blog Here, spends lunch talking only with people who agree with this noise machine, then spends the rest of his day working while listening to Beck and Rush, only to head home to a night of Fox News Fox News Fox News clearly would be willing to be convinced that everything he believes, hears, and reads all day long are false if Obama were more effective in getting the "Xtian optics" out there.

Reality doesn't matter in politics anymore. At all. It's just a game played through the media while Congress does what they really want (get favors for their biggest campaign donors to keep that money train rolling). Maybe that could change if the Republicans could actually find a strong leader again. But their talent pool is full of tards and perverts.

Obama should get baptized as a born-again in October 2012 on Fox News for the lulz.

I made it about 1:44 in and had to shut it off. After the first guy who said, essentially, 'Obama doesn't understand the details of the Egypt situation', implying the he does, it was all derphill from there.
Yeah, some farmer from Bugfark Iowa knows more of the details of a volatile foreign policy situation halfway across the world than the White House and the State Department.

I respect your faith in humanity. I really do- the only reason to be a liberal, IMO, is because you believe things can actually improve in America.

But this basic brain anatomy- the logic and reasoning areas of the brain that do things like "weigh evidence" aren't in control. It's the reptilian brain that's running the show for authoritarian personality types- the area most responsible for fear and paranoia.

It's why Fox News can brag about how much better their ratings are than any other cable news network, and then claim to not be a part of the "mainstream media." It's why they can simultaneously believe that they speak for the massive Silent Majority, and yet are sure that their beliefs, and our very country, are under an all-powerful attack from Progressives.

It's why they are convinced they're True American Patriots, but get all butthurt when a Super Bowl ad dares to mention that its cars are made in Detroit. Quoting Orwell can be pretty cliche at this point, but it's classic doublespeak, and that doesn't happen without some serious shut down in the cerebral cortex.

Testiculator Ablaze: Rent is too damn high: ...a complete unmitigated disaster for the GOP

Don't be so quick to jump to that conclusion. Remember, it's on the whim of the Independent at that particular moment of voting as to whether we go R or D. And your average I has never been shown to be all that bright.

Independents, or at least the vast majority thereof, are a fantastically pathetic bunch. They talk about their political stance like they're some political sage, standing ideologically high above the rabble and its false left-right dichotomies. They won't be taken in by base political propaganda and gimmicky pandering, nosiree. They do their homework and judge each candidate and issue on a case-by-case basis. If they amount, in practical terms, to conservatives, it's only because their amazing freethinkingness brought them to such a position.

In reality, they vote for whoever bashes teh gheys and Mexicans the most.

wow it really does look scripted. All those people with stuff to say and there's never an occasion where two people talk at once. If it was truly spontaneous, wouldn't there have been times when two people started talking at once?

That much praise for Bachmann???? Really????? Send these jokers to back to Orange City, or whatever part of Steve King's district they dragged them out of.

I know we just did the time-warp electing a mediocre crook to a new term as Governor, and we bounced a good chunk of our Supreme Court for having the balls to actually make a decision based on the text of the constitution, rather then what a slim majority of the voters want - I just, just . . . Damnit, I'm going to have to face it. I really do live in fly-over country.

Republican caucus voters are the most important people in America. They hate Obama but love Palin, Gingrich and Bachmann.

And Frank Luntz was completely convinced that Hillary Clinton was going to be the President.

With the amount of bullshiat and idiocy in that room I'm surprised they had room left for the cameras.

If Obama spent his focus on that aspect of our community, he would be doing a massive disservice to the non-retard community. That time is much better spent securing nuclear weapons, creating more equitable trade agreements with other major world economies, ensuring that the Iraq withdrawal is as efficient and safe as it possibly can be.

Realistically, we're passed the age where a President--any President--won't have a group of organized people that hate him or her. Frankly, if that's what President Obama was focused on, he would be a George W. Bush-level failure as a leader.

This is true, it is also true that he is failing to convince them as I have said, so be it. He may also go down as a bigger failure than Bush or even Carter. He does seem to be well on that way.

The big issue that I see here is the power to influence the direction of the presidential elections being laid at the hands of hun-yucks from Iowa.

Tyee: Yeah, that is a accurate analogy Sir Failsalot.

It was obviously hyperbolic, but the point is sound. These individuals are literally incapable of learning. Whether by virtue of lack of will or pure unadulterated lack of intellectual capacity is irrelevant.

There are those for whom any idea that challenges their preconceived world view is so frightful that they are unable to even conceive of it. The fact that each of them was so hung up on words like 'muslim' or 'liberal' indicates that they are among this, sadly growing, demographic.

These people are the problem every bit as much as Code Pink is part of the problem. The fact that I happen to have come to similar conclusions about the merit of our having engaged in the Iraq war as many members of that group, doesn't mean that I don't recognize that many of them shouldn't be trusted to tie their shoes let alone be taken seriously in a conversation about policy.

In short, stupid people suck.

There's a big difference between accusing Bush of being a war criminal and calling Obama a secret Muslim. One has facts to back it up. The other is because people don't like a Black guy.

The important thing to keep in mind is that any criticism of these folks would be elitist. Also smug and/or sneering. We must treat all opinions as valuable, even when one is, "I'm not sure that the laffer curve is accurate at all" and the other is a long belch while waving a tiny American flag in one hand and scratching one's nuts with the other.

Personally, I think we've come a long way. 60 years ago these folks would have been jabbering away about a darkie president who was born in Africa and howls at the moon with a bone in his nose. Now, they say the same thing but thinly veiled with "legitimate" concerns about his dedication to our nation and our way of life. Go America, go!

That reminds me of a Mike Royko story from years ago. He got lost in Rural Illinois somehow ended up in Indiana hated it, and wrote an article about it. I wonder if, at some level, Fox is finally reaping the derp it sowed while it tries to jump back over the hungry shark of American politics. Or something.

Beck is the only Fox host not being consistently savaged by the Freepers now (O'Reilly's interview was too soft, is the general conclusion, despite the number of interruptions and general asshattery). The tea party has been revealed as the right-wing rump of the GOP, not some noble experiment in small government advocacy. And its most prominent leaders are now pushing flatly insane political conspiracies discredited over decades.

It's not just substituting Soros for the Rothschilds that seems so loony, or the ascendancy of the Birchers - it's the inability to calibrate an opposition. Folks like the ones in this focus group are simply outraged all the time about everything, whether it is the president's position on Egypt, or his caution or his hair or his faith or his wife or his daughter or the House minority leader or the Senate majority leader or Hollywood or New Yawk or Chicago or heaven knows what else.

This is a level of outrage and derp that scares normal Americans. When even Frank Luntz thinks you're going too far, you're going too far. When Beck starts attacking the neocons for not being sufficiently scared of his conspiracy theories, you've left the playing field.

If anything, Murdoch and Ailes want to be taken seriously as political players. That won't happen if folks like this are your audience, your mainstream. Iowans or not, they scare everyone.
