I doubt there's an expert out there who has done the same.

Sure, as long as you ignore everything else it predicted wrong in that article.

There's a catch, here. The game DID predict this year's winner before the season started. But it did NOT do that for 6 of the prior 7:

"Sure, experienced football writers will make their picks, but EA has done this kind of simulation every January since 2004. Since then, EA has picked the Super Bowl winner six out of seven times, so maybe the algorithm is on to something."

Frankly, that'd be pretty damn impressive if it had, but the article implies that historical performance has been predicting the game when the conference champs are already known.

Still interesting, though.

The Packers will tie Favre's Minnesota Vikings for the NFC's top record...

It would be even more impressive if it didn't predict a Steeler win before the SB. Link (new window)

/I guess if they pick everybody at different times they will always be right at least once.

There was no point in beginning that article with a Farve reference, other than the writer having never watched a game in his life and using the only name related to football that he can think of.

I'm confused now. The game did correctly predict the Packers back in September of 2010, before the season started - but that was the first time they ever did that? Usually it had just run a simulation of the two teams playing in the Super Bowl?

Other than the fact that Favre (note the correct spelling) used to play for the Packers, right?

Will the upcoming Madden predict a lock out? Is that how it works?

MBarry: Will the upcoming Madden predict a lock out? Is that how it works?

Madden 2012 has all the options disabled except for "practice alone".

You have to buy the CFL game and create A. Rodgers, QB #12.

My buddy and I played Madden '11 the night before the Super Bowl. We played 10 minute quarters, and I won (as the Green Bay Packers) 118-59. I believe something was wrong with the A.I. since I had over 1200 yards of total offense, and the only points scored by the Steelers (save for a random field goal) were on kickoff returns for touchdowns. It was still fun nonetheless.

I think he's just showing off; "Hey, I can throw for a TD and wave at you too".

Yeah well I predicted Green Bay would win the Super Bowl before Week 1 also.

But I had them beating San Diego.

I'm not a fan of most video games, but I rented Madden 11 just for kicks. In the "easy mode" or whatever, I could do nothing but score touchdowns on every play. And the opponent was all 3 and out.

Rather boring. But then it seems the only other option is to go to some super complex mode that I just didn't want to deal with.

I liked Madden more back in the PlayStation 2 days.
