in other news the movie GIGLI looks like a piece of shiat

IMO, the best ever screen couple:

...they were never married.

Well, you'd have to go back pretty far to find a good and funny couple...

Eyes Wide Shut ?
2003-07-20 02:17:20 PM
I'm chuckling at the article in the right sidebar: Mini-Me marrying his "towering girlfriend."

Maybe THOSe two can make a good movie. Not sure I'd wanna see a love scene though. Unless a stepladder were involved.
2003-07-20 02:17:57 PM
Does that mean Tommy and Pamela Lee were faking it?
2003-07-20 02:18:43 PM Brittany Murphy and Ashton Kutcher or JLo and Ben Affleck? They all suck anyway, and their films multiply the amount of suck-ness.
2003-07-20 02:26:56 PM
well, in tyler we trust lol
2003-07-20 02:33:26 PM
How ironic it is that I'm sitting here watching "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" One of the best movies ever made, and starring a couple who for all intents and purposes were married for more than thirty years.
2003-07-20 02:35:26 PM
Married movies suck, yeah, I'm thinking Bennifer
2003-07-20 02:38:56 PM
They weren't in it together, but I think 'Swept Away' should count anyways. God, did that movie suck ass.
2003-07-20 02:40:01 PM
PS: For those who don't know, it was Guy Richie and Madonna.

Perhaps some mandatory pre-casting genetic testing is appropriate as well. Would't want a movie ruined because the principals were third cousins or something.
2003-07-20 02:44:35 PM
Didn't they split up on the set of Eyes Wide Shut. Perhaps that's what made it good.

(we can argue all day if it's good or not but it's certainly no Swept Away)

I can't stand Brad Pitt. I think most movies that he is in are crap. His face, especially his cheeks are too puffy.

Yeah that Brad Pitt is sure in a lot of shiatty movies.

I'm naturally prejudiced against the opinions of pretty-boys like Brad Pitt with their "I'll always look fifteen" puppy faces. But the more I hear this guy's views, the more he's starting to be okay in my book. I can't think of a single dimwit thing I've ever heard him say, which puts him light-years ahead of most of Tinsletown. Not only that but the few times he's actually foolhardy enough to declare a strong opinion that might actually offend someone somewhere, invariably it makes a lot of sense. Like this one.

And I really like the way he stands up to that dunce of a wife of his. She looks real good in a little pleated miniskirt with knee-high socks ("The One Where The Monkey Gets Away"), but when she opens her mouth she creates a lot more questions about her own intellect than about the President's. "F*cking idiot" is what you say about people when you're in the fifth or sixth grade...

...or maybe when you're on FARK.
2003-07-20 02:59:56 PM
Oh. THOSE kinds of movies....i thought, you know, the Griswalds kinds of married couple movies.

Not quite true. Harrison Ford and Anne Heche made a flamingly bad movie, and they're not married.

I used to assume Brad Pitt was a shiatty actor. Then I watched those movies. Then I shut up.

Its okay to be a Brad Pitt movie fan, its NOT okay to be a Brad Pitt fan.
2003-07-20 03:34:49 PM
No, Brad Pitt is a good actor and based on the commentary to Fight Club, a pretty intelligent guy. Sure he's a goddamn pretty boy but only the insecure or jealous would hate on him for that.
2003-07-20 03:35:35 PM

Same here - oh yeah, don't forget Snatch.
2003-07-20 03:36:24 PM
I like him in "The Mexican." I think he had a good chemistry with Julia Roberts, but I think that worked because they weren't thrown into every scene together which most other movies would've done if they had two stars like that in the same movie.
2003-07-20 03:53:49 PM
"I really liked the Getaway back when I was eight. That pussy Alec Baldwin sucked in the remake" - "Steve McQueen" by the Drive by Truckers
2003-07-20 04:10:33 PM
Though there be some truth in what he says, like all generaliztions it is wrong. Hume Cronin and Jessica Tandy.
2003-07-20 04:58:48 PM
Tigger: what were you smoking when you watched "Eyes Wide Shut"? That movie was awful, it was basically just a softcore porno. Perhaps thats why you liked it. Also, note that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman really didn't have too many scenes together in that movie.

Meanwhile, I have to say that Bradd Pitt, thanks to comments like that one, and "Fight Club," has become a rare exception: a Hollywood pretty-boy that doesn't suck.
2003-07-20 05:02:02 PM
did anyone else notice this article???

It makes me laugh to think about it....
2003-07-20 05:06:04 PM
I agree. I used to scoff at Brad Pitt and his 'hunk' status, until I saw him in several movies where his acting impressed me enough to realize that he actually can act. And his offscreen comments are generally very funny and intelligent. Him and George Clooney are probably two of my favourite male leads.

Oddly enough, though, I wasn't too impressed with Ocean's 11 (the remake) even though I usually like Soderbergh, Clooney, Pitt and co. I'm hoping the sequel will be a little better.

/goes off to do a love scene with Kim Basinger

Don't forget Interview with a Vampire.

Probably the only good vampire story I have ever seen.
2003-07-20 06:08:11 PM
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. Burton and Taylor were married at the time. They were also married for Taming of the Shrew, which is pretty good too. Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson were great together in Dead Again, Much Ado About Nothing and Henry V.

And who can forget Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis in that laugh a minute comedy Transylvania 6-500.

Okay, that last bit was sarcasm.

The film "eyes wide shut" was released before it was porperly finished. They just hired another director which was alive, told him to wrap it up and they cashed a big old pile of cash thanks to that. That's why it is so incredibly crappy.

It is amazing how some of you say that that movie was good.
2003-07-20 06:26:05 PM
GreatBunzinni, what are you talking about? The Film was finished some time before Kubrick died. In fact, there are some quotes of him talking about how he'd just finished it, quoted a few days before he died. The movie was good, and it was exactly as he wanted it to be.
2003-07-20 06:56:46 PM
Daiver, *golf clap*

Funny this, my mom asked me the other day if they were gonna make a movie together (Brad and Jen) and i said it would be crap if they did. She agreed, Brad agrees; balance is maintained.
2003-07-20 07:13:14 PM
The hell is a "golf clap"?
2003-07-20 07:41:11 PM
So, I guess that Brad & Jen won't be doing any Leprechaun movies together any time soon? Maybe a sequel to 'Kalifornia' is underway? It could happen.
2003-07-20 07:52:21 PM
I dunno, some married couples are hot, That Hume Cronwyn and Jessica Tandy were so sensual in Cocoon , for example.

Lucy and Desi in "The Long, Long Trailer"?

Except for the people blocking the sex scenes so that they could get an R rating, of course. All of Europe saw it the way Kubrick intended it, but our "Sex is bad, war is good" American culture made it impossible to see the way Kubrick intended.

When is THAT movie going to come out in a Director's Cut version? That's one I'm waiting to buy.

Daiver- Golf clap is a quiet, fast clap, best illustrated by Emelio Estevez and Charlie Sheen in "Men at Work".

One of the classics.
2003-07-20 11:37:00 PM
I've seen the uncut version of the orgy scene from "Eyes Wide Shut". I think it's at but not for sure. It's alright, but not worth griping about. Just basically the same thing, but without the people digitally added over the fake sex. Hopefully Kubrick's family will gain the rights and repair the flick, as they've done with the majority of his material. No full-screen, though....please.
2003-07-20 11:53:38 PM
Cocoon rocked. that said, everyone beat my to the tandy/cronin thing. but weren't brimley and stapleton married?

Copthill golf clap? did i go to high school with you? i thought we were the only people who did that. can't remember the origin though.
