CygnusDarius: rwnj: Are y'all still mad because a bunch of old people with less than half of your theoretically monumental cerebral capacity kicked your butts sooooo bad last November?

Whining is for losers - expect to hear a lot more of it from liberals in years to come.

Hello, rwnj. Look at your comment. Now back to mine. Now back to yours now back to mine. Sadly, it isn't mine. But if you stopped trolling around on the Politics tab and started posting legitimate comments it could look like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're scrolling down through comments and reading them thoroughly, and forming a sane argument. Back at mine, what is it? I posted it, it's a completely sane and legitimate comment with insightful knowledge with a tone of political bias bu sane enough for discourse. Look again, the comment is now diamonds!.

Anything is possible when you post legitimate comments and not trolling around.

I'm on a computer... On a horse.

I have a challenge for you all.

Find me a picture from a Teabagger function with more than two black people in frame, not counting the staff at the function's location.

12.4% of the population identified as black / African American in the 2010 census. And 2.5% more were self-identified as mixed race. That's well over 45 million people.

How hard could it be? Easy, reasonably difficult, or trying to find Waldo in an image that hasn't had Waldo added to it yet?

OK

More gratuitous bashing from FarKos, surprise, surprise.

Did it ever occur that they deliberately took a picture of a single person wearing flag clothes, very likely the only one? You don't see anyone around her dressed that way, do you? Not that non-Tea Partiers never dress in flag clothes.

Nor has it occurred to anyone else that this crowd might skew older because younger folks might have work and childcare commitments that preclude traveling to DC for a townhall?

As far as the "OMG They're all white crap", there are non-white Tea Partiers, they're certainly open to people of all ethnicities, and it's a massive display of left/liberal racism in invalidating a political movement because it's "too white" (a practice that would NEVER be applied to mostly black/latino/etc movements).

Contents Under Pressure: I'm just sitting here, happily watching the GOP do a Chinese fire drill. They sent operatives out to churches to get Nixon elected. Then, the churches got out of hand and fewer younger people are affiliated with churches. The GOP got pwned big time in '08. Some Fox anchor suggested we all form a "Tea Party" to protest taxes. We know who watches Fox. Voila! Tea Party, comprised of Fox viewers and their friends. Unfortunately, this is the same crowd that is aging out of the churchgoing GOP. The GOP's wonks seriously need to find a way to get younger people or they're going to go the way of blacksmiths and coopers.

If they can make the economy bad enough and feed the poor disenfranchised youth enough nationalist rhetoric and hateful propaganda, they just might have the base they need to maintain power in the future. Of course, for anyone else living in the country while this happens, it will NOT be pretty.

"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." - Sinclair Lewis

2011-02-03 03:07:11 PM
Silverstaff: Il Douchey: snip for brevity

The reasons "liberals" have a problem with the Tea Party is that these same people who are speaking out against "Big Government" and government power and claiming that they are being oppressed for protesting are the same people who spent the 8 years under Bush Jr. spouting off lines to the effect of "You're with us or against us" and claiming it is Treason to speak ill of the President during a "Time of War".

When that President becomes a Black man, and a Democrat, somehow that doesn't apply and to them it becomes patriotic to protest "Big Government", and to claim he's not really the President and it's somehow a massive conspiracy started decades ago to get a Kenyan child into the Oval Office beginning with planting a false birth announcement in the newspapers of Honolulu in 1961 (but being dumb enough to give the child a name like Barrack Hussein Obama, a very unconventional name in the U.S.).

If these people were saying that it's "Big Government" when the Department of Homeland Security was created, or were complaining about the giant budget deficits in 2007, then the rest of the country might think that the Tea Party is anything more than just recycled Republican Warrgabhle.

ding, we have a winner.

They are for limited government, fiscal responsibility and personal freedom.

WTF is wrong with that?

All you haters must love huge government, fiscal waste, and authoritarian rule if you have a problem with the TEA Party.

Don't be like that Phil. A lot of people dislike the tea party because they're empty rhetoric and showmanship, without strong, justifiable positions. They're angry, they're in your face, and they think they have every right to be acknowledged by everyone - despite not proposing anything concrete.

"limited government, fiscal responsibility and personal freedom" aren't policy positions, they're plattitudes.

What we're against is people that talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

People that want low taxes but let the Blue States pick up the tab. People that want the government intruding in the bedroom. People that don't want non-straights to marry.

Those things are the antithesis of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and personal freedom.

There's only one thing I hate more than a liar. It's people that defend liars. You're like petty thieves or junkies that lie for each other.

LasersHurt:
I don't actually hate the tea party. They're people who are scared, and they want to get involved to try to make things better. Unfortunately, they're totally ignorant of what is actually wrong, and what needs to be done. They're mostly lead astray by others who they think are trustworthy, which, coupled with their complete lack of intellectual curiosity, leads them to follow what they're told. For what it's worth, they actually BELIEVE the stuff they're told, and it scares the hell out of them - and if it were true, it WOULD be really scary.

So I feel bad for the poor ignorant sacks, because their hearts are mostly in the right place.

'Cept the few racists.

Pretty much this.

And that's why I, for one, hate them. I find willful stupidity to be far worse than actual stupidity. If your IQ is 60, that's not your fault, and whatever I can do to help you make it through a world that's a lot more challenging for you than it ought to be, I'll do. but if your IQ is 100, and through laziness you choose to have an actual-intellect of 60, then sorry, I can't help it, but I hate you. You're screwing up society because you're too damned vapid to bother learning anything about the world around you. It's easier to let Beck tell you what to think, and you always take the easy way out. And as those people love to go around saying what this country was based on, I'll turn it on them. It was based on hard work. But guess what? Now that the major physical work of setting up a huge country is done, that doesn't mean you can sit around and not work. You may not have to swing a pickax or till a field, but goddammit, you do have to work at thinking. And if you're not willing to do that, then YOU are the unpatriotic asshole who stands against what this country was set up to be.

And for that, I hate you.

Then you fix it. If you can. Would the Tea Party still exist without the ignorant pieces of shiat who are afraid of the world? If it would, you should get rid of them then maybe public perception would change.

Speaking of the Sixties. WTF happened, hippies? Where's ya go all of a sudden? One minute it's all about free-love and hairy bush then POOF! Alex P. Keaton is telling me to blow my CEO?

What gives? Did you all O.D. on quaaludes and Blue Nun?

Well, there's two explanations, one of them is Hunter Thompson:

...Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Five years later? Six? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era - the kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run... but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were here and alive in that corner of time and the world.

Whatever it meant...

History is hard to know, because of all the hired bullshiat, but even without being sure of "history" it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time - and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened. My central memory of that time seems to hang on one or five or maybe forty nights - or very early mornings - when I left the Fillmore half-crazy and, instead of going home, aimed the big 650 Lightning across the Bay Bridge at a hundred miles an hour wearing L. L. Bean shorts and a Butte sheepherder's jacket... booming through the Treasure Island tunnel at the lights of Oakland and Berkeley and Richmond, not quite sure which turn-off to take when I got to the other end (always stalling at the toll-gate, too twisted to find neutral while I fumbled for change)... but being absolutely certain that no matter which way I went I would come to a place where people were just as high and wild as I was: No doubt at all about that. There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda... You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. And that, I think, was the handle - that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting - on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave.
So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - that place where
the wave finally broke and rolled back....

Or, there's the George Carline approach.

Why do the GOP, the teabaggers and the Christian fundamentalists insist on being so utterly disrespectful to our flag?

You don't wear it, you stupid whore. Stop putting the flag around your greasy torso. Don't make it a shirt and tuck the stripes into your pants to be stained by your sweat. Don't let the flag be bathed in your funk, stop dripping your gravy and mustard stains on it, and SHOW SOME FARKING RESPECT YOU STUPID, MENDACIOUS BASTARDS.

For all your claims of patriotism and love of the flag, you show it pretty oddly by eating off of flag-decorated plates and wiping your mouth with flag-decorated napkins.

If that's patriotic, you can shove it up your ass.

I have no problem with the Tea Party as a concept. I have a friend who identifies as a Tea Party member who, while I disagree with him politically, is someone I've known my entire life and get along with quite well.

I have a problem with the leaders and rhetoric that the Tea Party espouses. Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Mark Williams, Judson Phillips, Dick Armey. Each and every one of these people have repeatedly demonstrated a gross disrespect for the intelligence of the American people, and a complete lack of historical perspective or even basic civic knowledge.

The intellect of anyone that respects, admires, and supports those individuals to have any civic leadership role, to me, warrants deep skepticism.
