These are probably the "$50 off at Store X" variety. He would turn around and sell them on eBay for $10 or whatever.

The ebay buyers ought to be thrown in prison for being so stupid. If these coupons are being sent en masse via US mail, chances are there are printable versions on the companies' websites as well.

If he's stealing those weekly flyers and envelopes full of coupons, I'd like to request the government assign him to my mail route.

Somehow I got on Victorias Secrets mailing list and about every three days I get a coupon for a free panty in the mail. You mean I could have sold these on Ebay? Damn...I must have thrown a hundred of these coupons away.

My wife runs a website about coupons (CouponSnob.net) and I bet she would be in jail for some kind of assault or other violent crime if she found out that our mailman was stealing her coupons.

Don't mess with a mommy and her coupons!

Not always. It depends on the company. To my knowledge, the coupons in the mail are from Red Plum. Smartsource and others do not always list their coupons online. Also, some stores will give people grief for printed web coupons. They are simply too easy to forge.

Selling coupons is illegal. The trick is to sell the "Cutting services" to people.

dumb-ass-guy,

"Don't mess with A mommy and her coupons!"

He said "A mommy," indicating that his wife is a MOTHER of, most likely, his children.

Are you really that stupid?

The guy turns 7,000 coupons into $35,000.00...Instead of prison, he needs to be given a position in gov't to reduce the deficit.

Ebay should start to be looked at a lot closer. You can buy all sort of stolen and fraudulent stuff off of it. I once bought some software that was counterfeit and when I complained to ebay I didn't get any type of response. As long as they get their cut they see nothing wrong with the theft they are encouraging.

Selling coupons is not illegal.

PS Maybe not buying that ice cream is a better idea than using a coupon on it.

Poor guy. He was helping people by removing their junk mail and at the same time getting something to help his children and family.

I actually feel bad for this guy. However, he will most probably get harder sentense than any of the Washington politicians ever got

Selling coupons is illegal? No no no, I'm not selling coupons officer, or running a prostitution ring. The coupons and anal sex with my wife are free, I just charge you $100 to come into my house.

Not really an ice cream fan. The use of the coupon is therefore irrelevant.

Ummm... so let's recap:

1. Government job with great benefits
2. 2 small children, and wife is pregnant
3. Gets a babysitter enough to complain about paying for it

Add that to:
4. Stealing from the mail
5. Selling 35k on ebay and not paying taxes on the income

Sorry, but my sympathy level is really low. Let me give you some advice if you're worried about finances:
1. STOP FARKING BREEDING IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT
2. Stop using a babysitter and take care of your own brood
3. Sell your palace and move into a modest 3 or 4 bedroom house which you could reasonably afford.
4. Avoid Jail for being an unsympathetic arse wipe.

No, chances aren't. I don't know about the others, but one mentioned in the article is Lowe's hardware. The USPS distributes discount cards for Lowe's when you file a change of address, and they go for a lot on eBay. You can find scans of them online, but you're lucky if the manager accepts them.

2011-02-02 03:10:00 PM
Holy crap, you can sell coupons? I throw those things out all the time! Even the $50 Macy's or $40 New York & Co. ones because I just don't really shop that much.

2011-02-02 03:17:08 PM
He's going at it the wrong way. I'd almost gladly slip a five-spot to my mail carrier not to get mail addressed to "resident" or "our friends at".

Then you take my stuff and resell it. Victory for them, no spam for me.

If you have a job and two kids and you cant get by on your salary, then why did you get your wife pregnant again (lets assume he was the one that got his wife pregnant).

Fire the baby sitter and tell your wife to cowboy the fark up and watch the kids. Also, get another job to supplement your gov't job.

2011-02-02 03:33:09 PM
$10 off any purchase at JCpenny for $1. Buy 20 of them and you've got 20 items... And if that's what he was selling they are sent exclusively to cardholders. Or maybe it was the 30% off your entire purchase (sent to silver and above level cardholders) Sell that one for $5 and the person can get a huge profit of buying it.

/wife worked for JCP

couldn't make it on a federal postal workers salary?? Someone really needs to figure out how to live within their(more than adequate) means.

2011-02-02 03:58:24 PM
well in some apts ive lived in there's a huge trashcan next to the mailboxes.... sometimes a huge paper recycling bin. the idea is that when people get junk mail and coupons they dont want they trash it.

how exactly is the court going to prove he didnt just rifle the the trash and get the coupons? or that he only took mail from residents that gave it back to him because they didnt want the junk mail.

besides "mail addressed to "resident" or "our friends at" is another good point. if the charge is that he's stealing mail.... who exactly is he stealing mail from? its possible someone just moved out of the apt and the current apt is vacant. taking mail addressed to a vacant apt without anyones name on it is.... questionable... but then again so is the addressing. since it's an invalid address... 'finders keepers' would seem valid.

besides, these companies are sending out coupons to get sales and well... they are!

1. The benefits are not that great, just ok.
2. I'm assuming by "baby sitter" he's talking about day care provider. Do you have any idea how good day care costs? I pay $160 per week per kid, and I'm getting a discount for knowing the provider. For Mr Tang that would be $1,280 a month, soon to be $1,920. Yes, maybe getting his wife pregnant a third time was stupid, but at this point it's moot.
3. Yes, he stole junk mail, and for that he should be punished.
4. It's pretty hard to pay taxes on income received from selling stolen coupons without going to jail. Just saying, your point was rather pointless.
5. Assuming his wife is working, even with $1,280 daycare maybe they made more with her at work than her watching the kids.
6. Something tells me he wasn't living in a palace in Elmhurst section of NY on a mailman's salary. Not everyone lives in the land of $80,000 houses like you.

Ummm... if he's paying cash for day care then something funny is going on. Daycare is an expense that can be paid for with flex spending offered by the USPS. It doesn't have to be paid for with cash unless something funny is happening. If he's paying for Daycare, then his wife better be working and therefore providing a SECOND INCOME.

Sorry, but once again, NO SYMPATHY. And just because you call it "junk mail" doesn't make it any less of a federal crime to steal mail. And who knows, if he's unethical enough to steal coupons maybe he's taking some extra christmas cards with money from Grandma for little timmy. I'm sure his "ethics meter" is probably off already; why not a little more?

Nice try developing sympathy for the THIEF. And I'm sorry if he lives in a nice neighborhood with $500,000 ranches. I live in crappy WI in a blizzard so that I can live in a house that doesn't cost arms and/or legs to live in and I can provide for my family without resorting to THEFT.

Oh, and let me see what my pension is: Ooops! I don't get one! Gosh, I wish my benefits were "just ok". Oh, my 401k? Not matched this year either. "Just ok" is looking pretty good to me.
