He won't seek reelection. I wonder why? Seems to me he'd have an excellent chance at it.

He didn't have a chance last time. But throwing your popular opposition in jail for five years solves that problem.

That may be what he's gearing up to do. Let the heat die down and oh nevermind, business as usual.

I don't really expect the people to fall for it, or to accept this as an answer to their demands. They's PISSED.

Well, he did get over 90% of the vote last time.

Is his solution cancelling the elections and just remain in power?

Good luck to him. When you're riding a tiger, you don't get to go, "Whoah, time out. Leg cramp."

Yeah, I don't think so either. Apparently, Mubabarak isn't picking up what 1 million people on his doorstep are putting down.

Now Obama needs to speak up in support of the Egyptian people to freely choose their next leader.

Seems odd that the guy wouldn't seek reelection, what with his 359% approval rating and all.

We're witnessing the end of a major era here, folks. The world is in for some major shiat in the next few years (perhaps decades) especially if Egypt is allowed to descend into chaos during a "transition period" here because God knows these college kids and anarchists don't know how to set up a legitimate government.

Get ready for $6 gas. Get ready for food shortages. Get ready for martial law in the US because of growing unrest. And all because "Democracy won" in Egypt.

We're farked.

Two million in Cairo alone has been reported. I'm not sure I believe that, not that I don't think it's possible I just don't know how one would get an accurate count.

I've been waiting for people in America to get pissed off enough to throw a brick through the window of the enemy (note: a bank, not a Mosque). Maybe this will help push us in the right direction.

Americans are not nearly hungry enough.

Well I shouldn't say that, they are hungry, just not the starving kind of hungry.

I'm sure we'll get right on that, as soon as the Super Bowl is over and we're done voting for the next American Idol

Oooo, I have a text from the Kardashians. Something about not paying attention to Bajoran resistance lies...

Not that high. The Islamic Brotherhood is pretty much the closest thing you'll find to radical Islamists pursuing peaceful democratic channels to get their message across.

That doesn't mean if things break down too far that someone can't come in and make some game-changing things happen in the wrong direction, but right now it seems pretty unlikely (at least in the traditional KABOOM sense).

50/50...like everything else in life

egypt has enough development and middle class folks to support a moderate democracy, but the muslim brotherhood is the probably the best organized opposition group in the nation so in an election they could be powerful.

I'm just saying that we had 5 years of strife in Iraq after Saddam got what was coming to him - and that was with the US helping them along and guiding their hands. Egypt is going to have the same kinds of trouble but with consequences on a much larger scale simply because of their importance in the world.

Great news! Not quite great enough to justify getting ten Fark notifications in my mailbox about it, but pretty good nonetheless.
