This must be a promotion problem. You can't escape the schedule of parties in the last week, and I never heard about this once. Dallas is actually really gay friendly.

The concert organizer should just regroup in about a decade and launch the same idea for the Qatar World Cup.

There aren't any more relevant/modern homo-centric music acts around? I mean c'mon....the Village People? Maybe you can't afford Lady Gaga, but there has to be somebody a little more contemporary they could've signed....

My first thought was that gay people don't care about the Super Bowl maybe? So why would they pay attention to the parties? Dallas is pretty fabulous, so it can't be because "not enough gay people." Or maybe they're tired of the whole "gay people love the Village People" thing?

2011-02-01 04:05:22 PM
I figure the gayness or lack thereof has nothing to do with it. They're just as sick of the Village people as everyone else.

/All 13 ticket buyers belong to the same YMCA

Wouldn't they just be at the big sports gigs like everyone else? Watching sweaty men in spandex on big TVs while someone brings you a refill on your peanuts, beer, nachos, hot dogs, burgers? Screaming in a warrior's ecstasy as Polomalu's hair whips in slow motion after a good play in a season flashback?

I, uh... I gotta go do something. I'll... I'll be back later.

I heard YMCA for the first time in ages the other day, and it was fun. Don't know what they're like now though.

Wait. The Village People are going to be entertaining at the Super Bowl? This year's Super Bowl only sold 13 tickets?

The lineup sounds somewhat better the other days : Link (new window) At least Passion Pit is decent.

I can only imagine how crazy Oaklawn will be when Scissor Sisters opens for Lady Gaga in March.

I only heard about this concert yesterday. That's too bad. Lady Bunny is fun! The tent collapsed anyways.

Dallas County elected a Mexican lesbian to be their sheriff. Don't listen to people who say Austin is the only place in TX that tolerates anything liberal. They're ridiculous.

The best part is that both girls in Tatu were straight and lied about it for media attention. Not the sort of people you'd expect to be at a show like this.

Only the Thursday concert was canceled due to low ticket sales. The Friday/Saturday concerts are still going on.

Exactly. If you've ever been to a gay bar that plays music videos and the like, you never see them. That's not what gays are into, generally. Its kinda cliche.

They like Cher, Madonna, and a bunch of dance acts. Even I know this.

The tent at the Cotton Bowl that was to hold the event collapsed today from the snow.

It was just never ment to be.

You can't have more than one gay event on in Dallas at once. Hence the Superbowl got precedence.

So Texans can openly admit they like big burly guys wearing spandex capri leggings, bumping, rubbing, tackling and feeling each other up to get their hands on a ball to place sometimes even shoving into their endzone? They just can't admit that they want to go see The Village People? Hypocrites.

2011-02-02 02:05:34 AM
I thought the Village People died.

2011-02-02 08:52:19 AM
Hey subby, not sure exactly what your point is but there are plenty of gay football fans. Want to join me at a gay sports bar on Sunday? Maybe the concert got cancelled because no one wants to see the Village People 30 years past their prime.

Well, and it's not just liberal/conservative. I never met conservative gays before I moved to Dallas. It's all weird here.

The gays are ready for the Super Bowl, we're just not willing to hang out in a tent, in fair park at midnight to watch the friggen Village People. Oh, and some real advertising may have boosted ticket sales. The Super Street Party on Saturday will be quite busy and festive though.
